This year we qualify to file our taxes for free (if you make under $57,000 filing jointly you can do this). Has anyone ever used any of the companies listed on the IRS website for free filing? Here's a link: http://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/jsp/index.jsp?ck

I've heard of H&R Block, but none of the rest of them. Can anyone help? Do you recommend any of them?

Usually I just used the free fillable forms, did the math myself. But if I can use one of these for free, I might just try it this year.

    Thanks! :goodvibes

I've used TaxAct for a few years now and have never paid a fee. Our return is a little complicated (self-employed, business use of your home...) and have never had a problem.

I file my state on the IL website for free.

I've used TaxAct for the past 5 years, and I'm very pleased. Our federal return is free, and the state costs $14.95.

I just filed for free with TurboTax (federal). Then I went to PA's site and filed for free through them. I'm not sure why anyone with a clear-cut tax situation would ever pay to file and/or pay for software that's available for free on the Internet.

We use H&R Block online every year. We make over that amount and use their free version, so there are no income limits for theirs. State we had to pay $27 to file on H&R Block. We've never had any issues using their program.

I also use taxact. I have never had problems. This year I upgraded to deluxe, because it got a tiny bit more complicated.. it was $18 for state AND federal. Had I not upgraded, it would of been like $15 for state.

I have never needed to upgrade before though. Very easy, even when the taxes are a bit complicated.

Another one here who files federal with an online program free (TaxAct) and files PA through their site free. I file local now online free as well (thank you to whoever voted the legislation in to take local out of PA residents' paychecks, so much easier.)

It cracks me up how many people at work file regular standard deduction and have no other income (interest) other than their W2s and pay someone $100 to do their taxes. These people though think that they are getting $6000+ back because they pay someone to do their taxes while I am getting ripped off getting $1000 back doing my own. They can't understand the concept of my paycheck being about $200 more than theirs because I have less taken out. They also think that when they work overtime, it is useless because it is all taken by taxes and don't understand they get that back as a refund as well.

I file federal for free through Turbo Tax. They calculate the state as you go along but I do not file state through them since they would charge me. I file my state for free through Massachusetts' own website and it has always matched the amount listed for Turbo tax.

I wish MO had free filing like most other states. We do get to file our KS state taxes online for free (my DH works in both states).

We have our taxes done for free at the Senior Center every year with free filing. You should check it out in your area if you qualify.

We have used freetaxusa.com for the past several years with no problems. Our income is higher than the threshold and we still can file federal for free, state is $10 through freetaxusa but we can go right to our states website and efile for free as well.

We get our refund direct deposit within a week or so of filing.
