Hi. I received a notice on the dis that a member is "following" me. Why would someone want to follow anoher person and is there a setting so people cant follow me? I knownit sounds silly but I just wonder why would I want to follow someone?

Thanks.

Hi, Gumbo. If you got the same follower as I did today, it looks like he may be looking for followers for his cause. I have nothing but respect for his cause, but I don't think you should fish for followers that way. Put your cause out there and if someone wants to back it they will.

curious..how do you know if you have a follower or not?
Hover over your username in the upper right. Click on "Your Profile Page". about 2/3 of the way down on the left there's a little section with avatars in it (and a number in the upper right). That's how many followers you have. Click on the number to see who they are.

I'd like to know if it's possible to remove a follower, also.

Looks like I have two followers. I got a notice yesterday that a new poster is following me. I don't remember receiving a notice for the other, but I probably did.

I'm not sure what following someone means....does the follower receive a notice every time I post something, or respond to someone else's post?

In any case, I don't mind.

I'm not sure what following does. :confused3 I don't follow anyone.

I figure that a follower is getting some kind of notice when I post something, but, if true, that particular member is up to following over 500 people. Under his avatar it says "I want someone to talk to is that too much to ask" I guess this is doing it for him.

I didn't get a notice, but I'm now followed by a very, very new poster.

Edited: Given the claim that the person makes, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

I got followed by probaby the same poster as others 2 days ago. What was also odd was when that poster also messaged me just saing hi.

So what does it mean to follow someone or have someone follow you?? Sounds a bit stalkerish if you ask me........and now I have a new word for the "ish" game on our game thread!!!! :teeth:

and I can guess who it is you are all talking about , since they were a 'new poster' 2 days ago and now have a LOT of posts since then..lol

Theoretically, a follower enjoys your posts, your point of view, perhaps shares some common ground with you on various issues you've posted about.

::yes:: My new follower is from the same state that I live in, I don't mind at all

I had a notice someone was following me too, probably the same person. I've never followed anyone so really don't know what the benefits of doing that would amount to.

I'd guessing that's a coincidence, not the reason he is following you. Not to imply that you should mind, but the person you quoted mentioned that a reason might be that the two have something in common, and while that's the case, I don't think it's the actual reason.

I got a "follower" myself a couple of days ago for the first time. Not sure why and I could not find a way to get "unfollowed".

I have 52 followers
But looking at them, a lot of them don't post here anymore and haven't for many years
