DH told me about that when I got up today. :sad1: Very very sad.
I immedietly called my brother since he is a truck driver and on the rd everyday. He said he had to detour around it, thank God he was not in it.

Yikes. We were talking about that accident at school today. So sad.

How about the fact that it was near 60 yesterday and now it is in the 20's and blizzarding today. Grrr, Michigan.

On our 4th snow day here in Kzoo. Not sure if we'll have school tomorrow either depending on how it is in the morning.

If we have a snow day tomorrow, that would be our last one before having to make them up - and we've only had them this week and last :confused3

We had a snow day this past Monday and really it was not bad. Our streets were all clear and it was a waste of a snow day IMO.. We really needed one today. My normal 15 minute run this morning took me over an hour. I left early and all of my kids ended up being late today. People just have to learn to drive slower. You will slide through a stop sign if you are going to fast. Seen a car almost plow into a cop car because they couldn't stop. Really sad.

Tomorrow's weather is supposed to be at least as bad as today's. I wish more schools would go ahead and make the decision (and announce it!) before midnight.

Our school actually sent out a recording that we were closed. I thought that was great. This is new. We used to have to watch the news for closings..

That's nice of them. If we are closed, I'll get the text updates and the automated phone calls. My district seems to pride itself on being the last district in the area to make the decision to close. Or maybe they are just followers. :lmao:

My daughter has had four snow days I think this year. Maybe five. I lost count. I haven't gotten any snow days thought. I have to drive to Kzoo for class every Wednesday. It normally takes me four hours but with the weather we have been having it has been taking me up to six hours one way. I'm getting very good at the keep the car between the rumble strips game.

Ludington's city beach is nice too. I think it probably actually has name, but I can't think of it at the moment. A tip though is you can park on the side of the road right before the Ludington State Park and just walk over the sand dunes to Lake Michigan.

I like Grand Haven - especially during the coast guard festival. But I also suggest PJ Hoffmaster too.

Not technically a beach but Sleeping Bear sand dunes are pretty cool. And they're not too far from Traverse City which is an awesome place to visit.

I second Traverse City - sadly I've only been to Sleeping Bear once back in 8th grade. I really need to go back.

Closer drive for you, I'd recommend Silver Beach in St. Joe or Van Buren State Park near South Haven.

I've lived here 8 years and had no idea Michigan had such beautiful beaches. I guess my hesitation is this:

DH is not a lover of the beach generally; he finds it too hot, and is not a fan of huge crowds. I am hoping he would like your beaches more since the water is cool, and the weather has the potential to not be so sweltering, depending on the day. :)

So we could do a SW beach on a day or weekend trip, and it sounds like they are pretty enough....

Trying to decide if the Traverse/Sleeping Bear/Mackinac areas are SO beautiful that they are worth the extra drive time/money etc. I am thinking if there are fewer people DH might enjoy those more for that reason.

So anyway that is kind of rambling but if anyone cares to weigh in I would truly appreciate it and sorry again for crashing your thread. I just figured all the experts are already in one place. :)

Sleeping Bear Dunes IMO is not to be missed. Also relatively close to there is the small town of Frankfort with a lovely beach also -- in the general Traverse City region. TC is nice, but generally wall-to-wall people. We prefer a lot of the other towns in that area.
