Great review of your meal at 50's Prime Time, Brenda. I wish I could say we enjoyed our meal there but, without giving too much away before I do my TR, we were not happy and will not be back (but we had lots of antics). I do love the looks of your desserts, though.

I enjoyed your review of 50s PTC. I'm struggling to decide between Sci Fi and 50s PT for our next trip. We usually do Sci Fi because we love the atmosphere. DD (will be 8 at the time of the trip) hasn't been to 50s PTC yet so there's the draw of bringing her someplace new.

DH and I did 50s PTC a couple of years ago but I just ended up getting an app because my stomach was a bit off (note to self, corn dog nuggets from Casey's at 11 p.m. on the way out of MNSSHP is no bueno).

Any words of wisdom on this choice?;)

Hi Brenda, just catching up reading your wonderful reviews.

Captain's Grille looks wonderful for breakfast. I have seriously thought about investing in one of those Mickey waffle irons, I love them so much too. But I'm sure mine wouldn't be as good as what we get at WDW.

I love the theming of Sci-Fi too. I just wish they would diversify their menu a bit. The burger is the only thing that appeals to me other than dessert.

The Yachtsman is the only Signature left for me to try and I hope to next trip. I'm not much of a steak eater, but your filet looks delicious. I would go just for the bread alone. I love onion and garlic!

I hate that Michael didn't get to experience the fun of 50's to its fullest. Glad you enjoyed your salad. I'm always looking for a good salad at WDW so I will have to keep it in mind.

Hi
Just catching up on your reviews!! I've never tried Prime Time, except for the Tune In Lounge, and you make it look really good. My DH would love the pot roast, and since I don't eat any meat, the ceasar salad looks really good. I think I'll have to try it on my next trip! You have a really cute family. Thanks for sharing.!!

The salad looked great, Brenda. I wish I has tried it. I think it's wonderful that your choices tend to lighter, and smaller portions- similar to what I would be looking for.

That appetizer salad looks like my worst nightmare - there's so much blue cheese! :rotfl: I'm not a big Prime Time fan (haven't been there in at least 7 years), but it looks like most of the food was solid. :)

Yummy!!! I'd love to try 50's! This is what Disney does well! Makes me want to go more and more to try all the yummy food!!! ::yes::

So are you a Cardinals fan? :lmao: I have a St. Louis office for my company and I swear I am impressed that the ladies are such fans! I think it is a requirement for working for my company that you must wear a Cardinals jersey and watch every game! (I work with some really awesome people in our "midwest" office so believe me, I'm not mocking them.)

Diehard Cardinal's fan. Lived here all of my life. I only own 2 Cardinal's jerseys though ;)

When I read DDW's comment, that saying came to mind, "One (wo)man's dream is another man's nightmare." :p

Anyway, great 50's PT review, Brenda! The last time we were there (almost a year ago) our server was pretty much a dud. Come to think of it, I don't think he even made us set the table! :lmao: Next trip, I'm leaning towards Sci-Fi on our DHS today. In light of new info I've recently received, I've taken HBD out of the running. ;) :rotfl2:

I saw your ticker and knew you were getting married but how amazing that it will be THERE on your trip.

"sized forgivingly" I love that and it's sad, but I completely understand!! The planing for this trip is extra special and I wish you all the BEST!:)

Thank you! That's very sweet! :goodvibes We are so excited, I cannot wait for this trip

Oooh nearly missed your Yachtsman review, I've been so busy these past few days.

Your experience was so totally different to ours. We had our wedding meal here and it was a disaster.

I have no idea who our waitress was (I may have blanked her from my mind). We had reservations for opening at 5.30pm and were seated in the window. At the table next to us was a family with two boys of about 6 and 8 - the older one of which was wrapped in towels having been dragged in from the pool and was making a right old fuss about this fact.

We didnt get any lovely personalised menus :sad2: even though we declined tap water, the server insisted on pouring us both a glass and leaving the carafe. Later she topped up my sparkling water with tap water

Unfortunately the aircon wasnt turned down very low and as the meal progressed I got very hot and had a one point to leave to cool down in the hall way. The lovely lady at check-in brought me a cold facecloth and the manager turned the aircon down.

A different server asked if I wanted my filet heating and I said yes, so our server took away my plate and brought my dinner back in a to-go box!

At this point I just wanted out but she insisted we should have dessert. We were at the end of the meal presented with the "congratulations" plate with the toffee and strange jelly things.

Its strange how different people's experiences are. I remember you mentioned your experience at Flying Fish was not so good with service whilst ours was amazing!

Keep the review coming x

Marie I am so sorry that your special dinner was such a disappointment. That's too bad that your server wasn't of the calibur that you would expect at a Signature restaurant. If you ever decide to go back, ask for Ricardo. He showed me his calendar and he has bookings for people asking for him 6 months out! Again, I'm so sorry.

The Cesar salad looks delicious and light for lunch!

It certainly was! It left plenty of room for dessert! :upsidedow

Hmmm... I will definitely tune in and see what happened with your experience. Sorry that it sounds like it was less than good.

Words of wisdom? That's asking for a lot from me!! :lmao: Oh, wait for these choices... I was going to say Sci-Fi because an 8 yr old may not "get" the 50's theming but then I was thinking 50's because they have awesome desserts and milkshakes .. but then I figured, heck Sci-Fi has great desserts and milkshakes too.... then I just gave up trying to dispense any recommendation. My personal choice (even for an 8 yr old) is Sci Fi.

Sometimes those late night cravings sound good in theory... however, reality may be different. ;)

Welcome back Rachel! I just read your R&C review. Yum!

Since 2/3 of the entrees at Yachtsman are steaks or veal, there's not a lot of options for a non steak lover. There is a chicken, fish, and veggie option. (And yes, the onion rolls are heavenly.)

As for 50s PT salad, it was a good salad for something a little lighter.

Hi there! I looked at the 50's PT menu and they have a spaghetti with veggie meatballs and of course what I had minus the chicken would be a great choice. Also, in the past I have ordered several veggie sides and made it a meal. If you check my past dining reviews you will see that I've ordered sides of veggies more than entrees.

Thanks for the compliment regarding my family!

The salad looked great, Brenda. I wish I has tried it. I think it's wonderful that your choices tend to lighter, and smaller portions- similar to what I would be looking for.

Hi Rosey! This trip I tried to eat in moderation - except for when it came to steaks... all bets were off for that. There are several more reviews to come for which I either split something or just had apps.

That appetizer salad looks like my worst nightmare - there's so much blue cheese! :rotfl: I'm not a big Prime Time fan (haven't been there in at least 7 years), but it looks like most of the food was solid. :)

Ha! You can keep your prawn heads but I will take bleu cheese goodness any day! :rotfl2:

If you haven't been to 50's PT in so long did you order off the kids menu last time?? :lmao: Actually, there are so many other superior options at WDW I can see where this place would not be on your must do list.

Yummy!!! I'd love to try 50's! This is what Disney does well! Makes me want to go more and more to try all the yummy food!!! ::yes::

I think we subscribe to the same theory.. we need "one more trip" or "one more day" to satify all the cravings! :thumbsup2 I think your kids would like 50's PT as well.

Diehard Cardinal's fan. Lived here all of my life. I only own 2 Cardinal's jerseys though ;)

:thumbsup2

Exactly Barb!!! We are on the same page for the bleu cheese goodness.

Oh no! I've wreaked it for you. I would return again... I would probably just bring a cat next time.

Was thinking about not doing prime time, but your review and pics have changed my mind..:)

There are a lot of great options there. Some of the better entrees are the fried chicken and the pot roast. I'm not a fan of the meatloaf and the pot pie is not what you would expect. Great desserts though! :upsidedow

Thank you! That's very sweet! :goodvibes We are so excited, I cannot wait for this trip

I just did the math and it looks like you will be there and getting married during the Flower and Garden show time. What a lovely time to go. :flower3:

Wishes Dessert Party at MK
DSC03455.jpg

Warning: I will be throwing a lot of photos you way with this post. (Like I don't usually?)

We had toyed with the idea of having an early dinner at either one of the MK counter-service options or at Contempo Café. However, since we had a later lunch we were not hungry so we opted to skip dinner in lieu of having dessert at the party. Very nutritious huh?

I had booked the Wishes Dessert Party about a week after the reservation window opened for this dining event. Our reserved time was 8pm. You prepay when you book – for this time of the year it was $25.50 per person. From what I understand, the sooner you book the event the closer to the front your table is located. Honestly, it really doesn’t matter where your table is located since almost everyone moves to the rail to watch the fireworks once they begin.

Once we entered MK it was around 7:25pm which didn’t leave much time to do anything before we had to check in for the dessert party. We arrived at Tomorrowland Terrace around 7:30 and saw that Cast Members were starting to set up the dessert tables. There was no one at the podium so we were the first in line.

See, first in line!
DSC03459.jpg

Although we had an 8pm “reservation” it really doesn’t matter what time you arrive since your table is pre-reserved for your party. Once they were ready to allow people into the party, they crossed our name off the list, gave us a hot pink wristband, and escorted us to our table. The tables have name tents set up with the last name of your party and your party size. Our table was located mid terrace.

DSC03461edit.jpg

Since we were first into the party, I was able to take photos of the desserts without bothering anyone. I believe they rotate the choices because there were several items that I have seen in others photos that were not at our party.

Listing of dessert options:
Chocolate covered strawberries
Cups of crème brulee
Kiwi/mandarine orange tarts
Mango shooters
Cannolis
Berry tarts
Key lime tarts
Dutch apple pie squares
Banana pudding something or another??
Chocolate chip cookies
Mini vanilla cupcakes
Fudge brownies
Rice krispie treats
Ice-cream with chocolate syrup, strawberry sauce, sprinkles, maraschino cherries,
Tiramisu
Chocolate and vanilla pudding cups
Peanut-butter chocolate cups
Fresh fruit (pineapple, grapes, watermelon & honeydew melon)

And the photo parade begins!

Although I seriously wanted one of almost everything, that wouldn’t have been practical so I just grabbed a plate and chose a mini crème brulee, rice krispie treat, cannoli, fresh berry tart, and a chocolate covered strawberry. I also grabbed a second plate that had a fudge brownie, Dutch apple pie square, key lime tart, and a banana pudding something or another??

DSC03488.jpg

Here’s the things that I really liked: Key lime tart, fresh berry tart, and cannoli.

Here’s the things that were just ok: crème brulee (tasted too creamy and not bruleey!), fudge brownie (dry), and Dutch apple pie square (gooey rather tart filling without much flavor).

Here’s the things that weren’t so great: chocolate covered strawberry – the strawberry didn’t taste ripe – it was sour.

And the things that I didn’t end up eating because I was too much of a pig to eat everything: rice krispie treat and banana pudding something or another.

As for Michael and Em’s opinion – they really liked the ice-cream sundae options as well as the krispie treats. Michael did not like the mango shooter – he thought it tasted like baby food. I know there are mango shooter fans out there but Michael is not a part of your fan club.

Around 8:45pm Magic, Memories, and You started and most people moved to the rail for a good viewing position. This was followed 5 minutes later by the Wishes fireworks spectacular! It was a wonderful viewing location and yes, Tinkerbell flies right over the terrace.

I am not sure if I would book the dessert party again. Overall, the desserts were a disappointment since only a couple of things were better than just ok. I wasn’t looking for gourmet dining but I had hoped with so many options that I would find more desserts that were better than those that come wrapped in cellophane.

On a positive note, the viewing area was fantastic and we really enjoyed the un-crowded vista to watch the shows. So lesson learned, if I want to give Disney $25 next time to have an unobstructed view of the fireworks and ignore the desserts, I am free to do so!! [However, I will likely grab a cannoli and a key lime tart anyway!]

Addendum to Wishes Dessert Party....

Lucky you more photos!!

Note the pink wristbands.

I love the idea of requesting a great server by name--do you know how to request him ahead of time? I have a YS res for Feb--should I call the restaurant or just go through dining reservations?

Your wishes dessert party pics are fabulous--thank you so much for sharing!

Love the DP update! It's so sad that the desserts are underwhelming. That seems to be a consistent review. I wonder why or if/how they will fix it.

Thanks for the input!!!!

I loved your pics from the dessert party. We are planning to do it again next year even though, like you, we found we were shelling out for the location more-so than the food (I liked what I tried but there's no way I could eat close to $30 worth of desserts even if they were ahhhhmazing!). I'm okay with that though!

Best review I have ever seen of the Dessert Party, Brenda! :thumbsup2 Excellent job with the pics of all the sweet treats! Oh, and the picture of you and Michael was just as sweet as the desserts. :goodvibes

Thank you for the review of the wishes dessert party, Brenda. It is something I wanted to do for my DD for her first time visit to WDW.

Great review! I felt the exact same way about the Dessert Party. None of the desserts bowled me over, some were pretty good and some were meh. And I'm right there with Michael on the mango shooters. I've heard great things but they aren't my cup of tea (or shot glass of mango stuff). Honestly I'm glad that we gave it a shot to see what it was all about and we had a nice time but I don't think we'd do it again. And I"m jealous because they didn't have cannoli when we were there!

I love all of your photos! You and Michael are so cute!
