    Hello ladies!!

I am a long time lurker on the Wedding boards, occassional poster and hopefully before years end I'll be able to be an official poster planning my FTW!!

I hope (guess) that my SO will propose this year.. I have an idea of the type of e-ring I want but I don't know how to drop the hint. I don't like the idea of going ring shopping (I'm afraid if I bring it up he'll think I'm chomping at the bit and if he brings it up I dont want the surprise of it to be ruined) but I don't know how to tell him "Hey YOU! I want THIS!" lol :rotfl:

Any suggestions? The ring I like is on Blue Nile, fwiw.

Thanks, ladies!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 You're weddings are all so beautiful! I hope mine can be as lovely as all of yours!

Aww... how sweet! How long have you been together? I just got engaged this Dercember after being together for five years (it was our anniversary and I forgot!). DF chose the ring, it fitted perfectly and it was a beautiful diamond flower - the kind of ring I had never seen before but would have chosen without a doubt. I think our DFs know us so well - I am sure he'll pick a beautiful one for you :) I'm so glad DF chose one for me, it makes it that extra special!

    Congratulations - I am sure you'll be planning soon!!!pixiedust:

Hi! I dropped hints and even showed DF what I liked but he wound up designing one himself...It was funny, before we were engaged, I was driving him nuts...when are we getting engaged, what type of ring, etc...I figured out what store he got the ring and dragged him in there...The sales woman and him totally played like they didn't know each other!!! :) Anyway, he went back and she said that with my height and everything, the ring they designed would be better for me...I am glad they did...I now have a one of a kind ring...

I would just come out and tell him if you want a specific ring...if you know you are going to be getting engaged...he might as well know what you want...right? Say to him, "I was looking at these rings and maybe someday I can have one like this...I love this ring!!! Isn't it gorgeous?"

Take it from me, don't beat around the bush and don't sweat the small stuff...ya know what I mean...I guess I am showing my age! :)

Good luck whatever you decide to do..

Hmmm - If you don't want to tell him outright, has he got a sister you could tell, so that she knows what you like? Or his mum? Those are the people he is most likely to go ring shopping with, after all.

Everyone's different - I wanted a surprise as to me (and everyone is different) I would have felt like I was forcing him if I would have said "THIS ring, please!" But then, I was very lucky, it was a surprise so I never really got a choice in the matter!!!

Better to have a ring you like, though - you're gonna be wearing it a loooooong time!

If you like a ring on the web and don't care about being too obvious, you could do what I did. If your DH2B uses the same computer as you, leave the page up "by accident" so that next time he uses the computer he will see the ring. I did this with my hubby and it became a running joke with us, but I got the ring I loved!

I hinted:) With my ex, he said "just show me what you want".. and bought it with me there. Ugh.. well that didn't work out anyway..

This DBF.. tho it's new and I've NO idea if he's "the one"... I've already done the thing where we're looking at overstock.com.. at EVERYTHING... then I say wow they have RINGS on here!?!? I can't believe it!! (haha)...

Then I pull up the type I like and say WOW this is BEAUTIFUL!! I never thought they'd have such a PERFECT BEAUTIFUL ring!

now.. if it does happen... he knows what I like;)

Thanks, ladies!! We've been together over 3 years and we've been talking about marriage for a while. For various reasons I knew an engagement wouldn't be coming but now we are in a position where it is really possible sometime soon! Plus we are going on our first Disney trip just the two of us (we usually go with his parents) and its my birthday trip - so of cours everyone is buzzing about a possible engagement!!

All the tips are great! CinRell - the overstock idea is a hoot!! :rotfl: I'm just so afraid if I mention it that I will look like I'm some bridezilla-in-the-making forcing him to propose and SOON!!

See.. tha'ts why you also have to say "WOW! these PANS are on OVERSTOCK!? WOW GREAT PANS!"

"This CLOCK! WOAH! This CLOCK IS ON OVERSTOCK? WHAT A DEAL!"

"holy SHMOLEY! Check out this stuffed bear on overstock! Always wanted to get niece that one!"

    then hmm rings??

    after rings...

    "PLASTIC CONTAINERS ON OVERSTOCK WOOOBOY!"

Then again you risk getting a great, yet low priced set of pans presented to you in front of the castle.... hmmm.

I think I was kinda subtle....I simply asked him that IF we got married would he be the sort that liked to choose his own ring, or would he be happy for me to choose it ....hopefully opening up a conversation about what he would like in this area, will open up a chance to discuss what you would like.:thumbsup2

first, congrats!! Im so excited for you! Second, if you want him to really see the ring you want why don't you play on the computer when he just happens to be in the room so he accindentally sees it! Thats what I did! lol! It could work :)

I told everyone which ring i liked, so if he decided to take a friend of mine or a family member they all kenw exactly which one it was. It worked out perfectly because he took one of my friends and she was able to show him which one it was. A few hints or there wont hurt as long as you dont annoy him with it!!! princess:

I bought my own ring. I didn't wait for the regular down on one knee proposal. My fiance told me he wanted to marry me the same night he met me. That's also the day he asked me to move in with him. I'm not a very marriage minded person. It has never been a goal of mine. When I felt like I was ready, I bought my own stone and then had it set in a setting that I chose. I'm the one who has to wear it, and he has bizzare taste. I don't see why you have to wait for a man to officially propose if you have talked about marriage and you know the relationship is headed that way. But, that's just me. I'm an independent person, and I go after what I want. I don't wait for someone else to give it to me.

I am not engaged yet but DB and I have been together for 4 years and have already decided to get married in Disney. Now it's the waiting game for me to get the ring...:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

We both work on computers all day and email each other throughout the course of the day so I randomly would email him ring pictures and say "I like this one" The problem is that I like a few different ones and the only thing that I really KNOW for sure, is that I would like a princess cut diamond. He is so worried that he is going to buy the wrong thing he said "can't you just go with me" I figure it like this, even if I know exactly what ring he is going to buy and when he is going to buy it.....I have NO idea when, where, and how he is going to propose so that is a surprise enough.

Me and my Fi started talking about getting married over a year ago. Finally about 8 months ago we decided to start looking at rings. At first my Fi was going to pick one out on his own, but we were in a store one day and he showed me one of the rings he was looking at and I was shocked. it was not me at all. I really don't wear jewlery and i was so afriad that he was going to spend on this money on something I wouldn't really want to wear. Hes great at picking out clothing with me but when it comes to jewlery and shoes thats a big no, no. lol. We finally found (together) the ring I love. It was constantly going on sale about 30% off but I figured we had time so we waited to see if it would go down more. thankfully after forming a friendship with the lady at the store she told us a week before a huge one day sale and put it on hold for us. When we went to pick it up it was 65%off for a one day sale and when we opened a CC we got an extra 10%. It hasn't gone anywhere near that since. I just got my ring in November, but I was much happier knowing I was getting a ring that I would love (and fit!) then being suprised.

To answer your actual question, my sister had no idea what she wanted for her ring, but knew what she hated. She had my mom drop hints with her Fi like crazy. They would look at magazines and my mom would go, "WOAH! Lisa would HATE that! Its so ugly!" lol Not quite so subtle, but he got the point and ended up having her ring custom made from his design in a stone very meaningful to them. A moonstone, my sister doesn't do diamonds :)

I went with the nosey best friend...my MOH and i had decided back when we were little that we would take care of each others man....So when DH and i started getting serious best friend stepped in and said its always been my dream to help you plan the perfect engagement for her....(I did the same)....DH did end up designing the ring himself (with specs)...and okayed it with best friend who knew to kept her mouth shut till the big day...

    Worked great….

How funny is that! Brian isn't a big wedding person and doesn't like a lot of people staring at him so he mentioned an Island wedding....which is nice but not what I wanted so I threw Disney out there and now he says he won't get married anywhere else! YAY! I am addicted to these boards but I don't post much because I feel like I don't have any information to offer.

This "hinting" question was right up my alley! I "hint" almost everyday! :rotfl: here's some pixie dust for you pixiedust: pixiedust: Hope your's is official soon!

When my brother and sister-in-law starting to get into the whole engagment talk, she went online and printed out a picture of the ring she wanted and gave it to my brother. When he was going to go ring shopping he asked me to go with him because he didn't really know that much about diamonds and rings and didn't want to look like a fool in front of the diamond people. It worked out great because I knew EXACTLY what she wanted and didn't want. She got the ring she wanted and it worked out great!

I have been with my DF for over 7 years before he proposed.. He picked out the ring himself and did all the research, but I was dropping hints if being ready to get married and I told him I liked the princess cut diamond.... He did a great job and I bet your DB will choose an amazing ring for you.... princess:
