is it easy to navigate in WDW by driving? Are the signs easy to follow, or should I use google map
gps to get around? I will be staying onsite in summer and will have a car. Plan to drive to parks if line at bus is long. TIA

Signs are great. We always have our car and just follow the signs. However we never drive to parks, only to other resorts and Disney Springs.

You need to follow the signs - not a gps at Disney. Also - get the driving map of Disney at your resort front desk or any park Guest Services. Reviewing the map on paper for a bit can really help you orient yourself. There aren't really that many roads. I always get a couple of maps and leave one in my room and one in the car. As long as I understand the "general" vicinity of where I am headed when I start out - the signs make sense.

Depending on your resort - your car may be a LONG ways from the bus stop - so don't decide based on "long bus lines" - just decide if you are driving or not. We drive pretty much everywhere - though sometimes we take the bus to MK. We love having a car. The stop at the grocery store saves us a ton of food money (and we are happier food wise) - and the freedom to go anyway is good for us. Walking to bus stops is annoying to us - we'd rather walk to our car!

I didn't have a car my last trip - and I really missed it!!!

Yeah, try not to use gps! The one time I used it to get from MK to Sanford, I ended up driving into Epcot!!!! The roadways were very close to each other and the gps got confused!!! Good thing I have an AP and don't pay to park!!!
Follow the signs and take your time!!

Another one for don't use your GPS, I got a new car and decided to use mine just for fun. Ended up going into MK the back way through the CM parking area, really weird. I would suggest that you know what area you are going to. For example: if you are going to a MK resort or a HS resort. Sometimes the signs will say MK then will start saying the resort names as you get closer.

We always use Google maps on our phones and have never, ever had a problem in WDW. The one time we decided to use a GPS was a very different story.

Navigating WDW is fairly easy. There are many signs and even if you miss a turn you can usually recover pretty easily. Take a look at the driving map before you go and acquaint yourself with where the parks are in relation to your resort. You may also want to see where you can get groceries in close proximity.

The maps that they hand out at the resorts are more than adequate for navigating the World.

Only time I ever got lost in Disney was when I tried to use my GPS

Signs are plentiful and easy to follow.

Oh.... I am loving these purple signs. Thank you for sharing!

Driving was something I was really concerned about when we went last summer (it was my two children and myself). I spent some time before the trip looking at google maps and learning the locations of things, the roads in the area etc. I am super glad I did that because it made me feel more confident. That plus the signs I had no trouble at all!

If I can drive at Disney World & not get lost - anyone can!!! The large purple signs are well placed, easy to read, & there are enough of them to keep even the most hesitant drivers from getting lost!!!

My GPS does not always work at WDW, stick to the purple signs!

I'll second or third not following a GPS, but following the road signs after you get to Disney. Even though I updated the maps on our GPS a week before we went, the maps didn't seem to be current.

I also downloaded a Disney map of the roadways, and that helped out more than my GPS.

We never had a problem finding our way around using our GPS (have a Garmin Nuvi). It was great for getting between resorts to see the Christmas decorations. But by now (our 31st driving trip), we no longer need it as our car seems to go on automatic. :rolleyes1

The signs are well marked and I agree a GPS may not be the way to go.

One thing to remember is that, especially with resorts, you should follow non-specific to specific. For example, if you're staying, for example at "Port Orleans Riverside", you won't see POR signs all over the place. You would first find signs for "Disney Springs" or even "All guest areas", then "Disney Springs Resort Area", then "Port Orleans" and "Riverside" as you get closer. Just have a general idea of where you want to be and what part of WDW it's in, and you'll be fine.
