Does anyone use AAA to book cruise?

I have just started on this board, but it seems most use Dreams Unlimited. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with AAA?

Also, I have a hold on a specific cabin, but I do not have to pay the deposit until Friday. Is it too late to add a TA to the reservation?

Thanks for any help!

We use AAA you can add a TA at any time you just have to do the transfer form which the TA will give you..

Yes, I have always used AAA to book my cruise. My local AAA office is wonderful and we have a great TA to help us.

I was thinking of booking our first cruise using a AAA agent. Do you get the same AAA discount with a cruise as you do a disneyworld vacation? I think it was about 10% off.

No, AAA does not discount DCL cruises. However, they do offer an incentive. It used to be OBC, but now it's just a cheese tray or something for your statement. Other TAs offer different things.

DU financially sponsors the boards. There are restrictions on which TAs were are allowed to name and not name. If you see *******, that means that someone tried to post the URL for a TA that we cannot name.

I "interviewed" our local AAA office some years ago. The agent knew NOTHING beyond what she could read on her computer screen.

My minimum requirements for a TA booking MY DCL cruise is that they have been on one of the classic ships and on the Dream (so that they know the product first hand) and that they have attended the training that Disney provides for TAs. They need to communicate in the way I choose and have hours beyond 9-5 M-F. I don't want an agent or agency telling me that they ONLY work thru e-mail--sometimes it's just easier to talk (but I agree that a lot can be handled on line). I want a full service agency, not one that just books Disney by punching the same buttons I could. The agency I use does give an OBC, but that is not the main reason to select a TA--service and expertise is!

I have booked 3 of our 4 cruises with AAA.

They do their own on board offers. Used to be an OBC, the last couple years it was a package which included an OBC and some other stuff. Right now they are offering a small photo package (depends on inside or outside cabin how many you get). They usually run the same deal for a couple years, though you will not know what the current offer is for sure until that year. (example, I am booked for 2013 so I don't know for sure if I will get the photo package or if it will be something different by then.)

As others stated there is no actual discount on the cruise as that is not allowed by any travel agent.

One thing to check though (because it varies from state/county) is what other deals your actual membership gets you. We live in Western NY and have the premier membership. With that, we get up to $100 dollars back(basically over $3000 gets us the whole $100) in the form of a check for any cruise we book (not just DCL). AAA also has January as Disney Month every year. Our office gave us $50 per person for booking during that, which was another $200. So we will get $300 back plus whatever they give us on the ship. Also after our cruise, if it cost us more than $1000 per person we will get 2 $100 cruise certificates to use on our next vacation (this can be used with our $100 discount as well.

So for us, AAA has been very good. Check your local office and what benefits your plan offers.

We just used AAA to book a back to back in April. If you book by Febuary 18th with them you get a $100.00 cash card. That was at our AAA in Delaware. They also give you a picture package and then you get the $25.00 obc from Disney Cruise Line.

Thanks for the great info everyone! I will go tomorrow and check out what they are offering.

When I booked my cruise for September, my local AAA was only giving a photo package.

The OBC was my cat room was $200 which was a better deal. I talked to several online TA until I choose one.

Like a previous poster, the ability to talk to a person versus email only was a deciding factor for me. Both TA agency gave the same OBC but one actually called me back in a timely manner. She looked at rooms while we talked on the phone. She has actually been on the Dream too.

Good luck.

I use my local AAA TA to book DCL cruises. She is great and is a joy to work with. For comparison sake I asked for a quote from DU once, and it took 2 days for somebody to respond.

Our local AAA agent didn't know any part of the ship and also stated she'd been to Epcot and Disneyworld.
That being said my uncle was a AAA manager (his whole working career) and didn't know much either about DCL.

I always pick a Disney CRUISE specialist. Not that I've needed them to know too much anyway.

I booked the first cruise sight unseen, on my own.

The others I have had an agents help, but I know what I want and tell them and check in periodically. I'm already paying for AAA and where I live I am getting better money back offers than others are offering for OBC so if I know a little more thank my agent, I'm ok with that.

We just booked Monday for our June cruise. I was surprised that they didn't offer a discount. We got a photo package worth $50 on board and the $25 OBC from Disney. Since we used the Disney Visa we were told we were going to get $50 OBC from them. We didn't hear anything about the $100 gift card though. I may need to check that one out. They don't seem to have a clue really about DIsney stuff though. I heard the next agent talking to a woman booked her WDW trip and I would have answered the questions much much better and I have only been twice in the last 5 years. I have a really good friend who is an agent at AAA so I use her. They don't get many opportunities to travel themselves so this is why I'm guessing they aren't all that experienced.

The $100.00 cash card was a promotion that my local office had posted. I am not sure if it was for different states or not. It was only running until February 18th. Let me know if you need any information and I can see what we can find for you.

We use Small World Vacations because they are Disney specialists and we always have the same agent for any questions or changes.
