Do you studio?

Discussion in 'Purchasing DVC' started by wtpclc, Jul 16, 2004.

Where do you stay?

  1. I stay in a studio and I'm proud of it!

  2. I'd stay in a studio, but we have too many family members.

  3. I stay in a 1BR or better, unless I'm forced not to (low on points..)

  4. 1BR (or better) or bust!

My DH and I bought DVC thinking a studio is still better thana regular room at a delux. There's just the two of us, so the pull out will be nice instead of a bed during the day. Since I started coming to this board in March or April, all I've heard is why not to do a studio. I'd like to see how many are out there that stay in studios and like it. So, please let me know.

We will probably stay in studios from time to time, but it is very convenient to have a separate living room from the bedroom. Early risers, night owls, little ones needing naps, big ones needing naps ;) . Staying in a studio is bound to happen sometime, maybe this fall/winter. And I'm sure we'll have fun no matter what.

My DH and I would probably stay in a studio if it were just the 2 of us. But, with 2 DD ages 12 and 8, we always get a 2 bedroom.

We stay in whichever suits our party size. If it's just myself and my DGD or me and a friend, and we're planning on eating most meals out, we stay in a studio. If there's more people, more kids, and we're planning lots of meals in the villa, it's a 1BR or 2BR. I've taken 3 DVC trips so far, and I've staying in a studio, 1BR and a 2BR. I can't say I would waist points and stay in a 1BR when we don't plan on using the kitchen much. I love being able to choose!:teeth:

Our sons were young in the 70's and 80's. At the Poly I remember sitting on the steps in the hall outside our room while our sons napped. Then we found the trailers at Fort Wilderness and that was great. There is no doubt in my mind that if we were raising children now, we would be renting 1-bedrooms, but since it's just we two, we rent studios.

I have told my DS that if he and DDil come with us to WDW, we would rent them a 1-bedroom.

We will stay in a studio for a few years so we can stay longer. We dont really have the option of multiple trips in a year due to low points(150) a year and $ needed to go. I am looking forward to our first trip in a 1 bedroom, whenever that may be.

I happen to love studios - when I travel with friends or family - OKW works best - because of the 2 queen beds.

If I am traveling solo - then any of them work....just depends upon which I can get (or want) for that particular trip.

now I have stayed in a 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom - but that is generally because someone else cancelled on me and I couldn't bank the points. the 2-bedroom was because of guests and believe me next time I will have my studio and they will have theirs.....

okay I am not a friendly person and somebody coming behind turn off stuff that I just turn on - makes me mad - and yes he saw me turn it on which is why he turned it off....and people actually ask me why I am not married.....

    Hi there,

Due to the fact that we spend in excess of 7,000 dollars on flights tickets and major spending in the states, and hotels etc. We are limited to one 14 day vacation a year. If we stay in a studio or 1bdr who cares. All the accomodation in DVC is of excellent quality if we havethe choice and points are no problem but generally it's a nice studio.

I'm not ashamed! I'm thrilled ot be part of the DVC! However, many of the posts I read have given me a feeling that....

Plus, in a studio, I won't be expected to cook more than cereal and popcorn!!!! It's my vacation, why would I want to cook!

Thanks for all the replies so far!

Studio was fine in a pinch when the kiddos were smaller... but now we're 1BR people... We've got a 2BR for our November trip... I hope we don't become spoiled. :p

We still most often stay in a studio b/c our boys are still little (2&4) and they often end up in bed with us anyways... also, except at OKW, I feel that the1BR's and 2BR's are small in living area, and I do just fine cooking in the studio with my electric skillet. We can't fit 6 of us at the same table (when my mom and dad come with us) anywhere other then OKW, and I hate to spend the points on the living room/kitchen when we can't enjoy sitting together for meals. So, if we go with my parents we either get two studios, or stay at OKW in a 2BR. We don't mind using our points for one w/e night, and we go 6-8 times per year for 1-4 nights (usually three), and we added on about 13 mos after our initial purchase. We now own 310 points, and I think it's a really good number for us. As the kids get older and we have to deal with school schedules, we'll likely have to go in higher point seasons, and less frequently then we are currently able to. So, hopefully we will be set with points. The only thing I'd like to possibly add is a BWV contract, maybe 100-150 points...sometime in the future.

We just do what ever makes the most sense for us on that particular trip. Sometimes it's a studio, sometimes a 1-BR, and sometimes it's a 2-BR. We have always had a great time regardless of the room size and been quite comfortable in all room types. I agree with your assessment that studios are indeed much better than regular hotel rooms.

The first trip we went in a 1br. DD's were 2 and 7. I loved the W&D and Kitchen with them! Next trip we are moving up to a 2 bdrm!! We will never go back I'm sure! Having multiple room accomadations is how I got DH to go to WDW the first time!! LOL (he is not a park person)

I would prefer 1BR/2BR, but right now our kids are young enough that we do just fine in 1 hotel room, so I assume we could "survive"in a studio as well. We will find out next summer--we are hosting so many family members that we will all be in separate studios.

That is the only way our points will cover accommodations for 28 people!!

We always stay in a 1 bedroom--but we have two kids-if it were just my husband and I, we'd definately be in a studio!
I've been on two DVC trips where it was just me and one other person-my husband and I prekids..and we stayed in a studio..and my Mom and I..and we also stayed in a studio. They were perfectly fine for two adults!

When it's just the two of us, you bet we stay in a studio. That means more trips "home"!! Of course, when we take family members we stay in units large enough to accommodate our group.

It's just my wife and I for the most part, although we rented a studio for my son's family in June. There wer four of them, but we just don't have the points to splurge. I'd really like to try a one bedroom, but it is so hard to justify doubling the points expended. I don't think we'd ever use the kitchen - we just enjoy eating out too much, even if it's just Pecos Bill's. I'd like to have the spa tub, but again - double points? Hard to justify. Eventually we'd like to add on to our 300 points, and then who knows? But for now, the studio seems to work just fine for us.

We are dedicated studio fans. There are 4 of us (DH, DS(18), DD(13)) to fit in to the studio space, but we usually manage w/out problems.
I do like OKW studios the best because of the two beds vs having a pull out couch....the kids do NOT like the bar under the mattress on those, and I feel as if we have a little more elbow room at OKW.
We have stayed in a 1 BR and really enjoyed the extra room & amenities. ;)
Bottom line: Studios help us stretch our points out, and that means we get more time back home!!

When we bought we concluded that a one bedroom would cost us about the same as a moderate. So we use a one bedroom for the two of us and a two bedroom when our daughters have joined us.

It has always been just DH and I so we've done a couple of different things. For what I call short trips (2nd or 3rd trip in a years time, Sun - Thur) we have stayed in studios. We like them just fine. We do go for longer (8 nights) and get the one bedroom. I don't mind fixing simple meals and having the laundry is a big plus. DH enjoys the jacuzzi. When we bought our points we got enough to have a one bedroom for a week, but when we have the studios, we've been able to bank points and go more times in the year.

As I've stated often, the flexibility of DVC is one of the best things. There is something for everyone.
