Is the concierge at DL worth the extra?
Also there are concierge pool view rooms,Tower rooms etc. Can anyone advise which is the best? would 2 adults and 2 teens need a one bed or two bed?

Thanks Karen ºOº:rolleyes:

Hi, We're staying in a concierge (park view) room when we go next month. I'm wondering if anyone has photos of these rooms that they wouldn't mind posting???

Thanks!!!

Truly

:D

PS: Disneyland Hotel.

We stayed in a concierge suite last November and I would not spend the money again. The furniture was old and not in very good condition. The concierge lounge was not worth the money. We have stayed concierge in WDW and we found that we ate in the lounge a couple times a day but when we stayed at DLH we visited the lounge about 5 times and the only thing I ever found worth eating was a bowl of cereal and some coffee. I am not saying what they had out was bad but there was not much. There just was not the same selection. I would not spend the money there again. A friend of ours came back from staying at the Grand Californian and they said the selection was the same as at the DLH. I say save your money.

I think they have done a great job fixing up the grounds of the DLH but they need to do the rooms next. They look the same as they did in the 70s.

We stayed at DL Hotel this past weekend, concierge, Sierra Building.

I can sum it up in three little words: save your money.

Yes, it was nice being able to breeze through check in relatively quickly.

Yes, it was nice being able to raid the fridge in the concierge lounge, grabbing bottles of water now and then, nibbling on crackers and cheese before dinner, and loading up on muffins and cereal for breakfast.

Yes, it was nice having someone there to answer questions, make reservations, or find directions.

But was it worth it? No.

The room was smaller than our regular room last year (though the view was pleasant -- the pool) and the furniture was, I think, newer, with big high beds and pretty blonde wood that had a French country/provincial look to it. (The cabinet containing the TV and fridge had painted on it the artist's conception of Disneyland from the 1950s...neat!) And we enjoyed having the "Tinkerbell" pixie dust wallpaper, too.

But none of that added up to all the extra money we spent; our 3-day package, for two nights plus two unlimited parkhoppers came to just over $1,000. We certainly didn't eat enough to make up the difference. I'm glad we did it, just for trying it out, but at Disneyland, I wouldn't do it again.

WDW, I think, has more perks and more fun food (from what I've heard -- I haven't tried it yet... )

Thanks for your advice.I think I will not do the concierge level.
On 3 trips to WDW have never stayed on-site so thought as we were only at DL for 3 nights I'd go for it!But the extra $100 approx a night only needs to partly justify the extra cost, but it sounds as if it doesn't justify it at all.
I think instead I'll stay at GC instead of the DL hotel as that is more expensive and pay extra for a good view.
Thanks again.

3 words...SAVE YOUR MONEY

It's not worth it. :(

We stayed 6 nights at The Disneyland Hotel on the 9th floor in the Sierra Building facing the pool.

The view was fine, the room was fine, but the Concierge Lounge was a joke. I know I should be more 'conservative' here since a lot of people like this hotel's concierge services, but I just can't help myself!

After enjoying concierge at The Poly in WDW, The DL Hotel's lounge was cold, dull and 'limited'

We 'downgraded' our room (saved $75 per night and got to stay in our same room) to a standard.

I'll try to elaborate when I have more time. If you have specific questions, please e-mail me, as I might forget to come back to this thread to later. LOL

So......the concierge rooms are not necessarily on the Concierge Level of the hotel, like they are with most hotels? Because if you can downgrade and stay in the same room, doesn't that mean that you just lose access to the concierge lounge, rather than access to a concierge room?

To clarify...the concierge rooms are not any larger and don't have any amenities that the regular rooms have....they just provide access to the concierge lounge?

From my personal experience, that is correct!

Our room was no bigger, and no different from any other rooms.

We were on the 9th floor, but the lounge is on the 11th floor. I think floors 9, 10, and 11 are considered 'concierge' floors.

The only 'special' amentiy that we got and my mother (who stayed on the 6th floor in a standard room) did not was they continued to 'turn down our beds' each night. Even after we 'downgraded'. They turned our beds down and left 3 little chocolates on each bed.

My mother had the tinker bell boarder just like us. She got a newspaper each morning just like us.

The lounge offered stale pretzels and goldfish around dinner time. And although they had sodas, juices and waters available to take, they also made it quite clear in the concierge literature (that is given to you when you check in) that each person should not take more than 2 bottles at a time. (give me a break!!!)

The most we saw offered in the lounge was cold crackers and cheese, grapes, veggie sticks and dip, and chips and salsa. There were no HOT appetizers and nothing that 'stood out'. The lounge staff would stand around with their hands clasped behind their backs and watch you help yourself and then watch you eat it, then watch you leave. I hate being watched while I eat! And there were about 3-4 staff persons doing this....way too many for this small lounge.

I did not see trays for taking stuff to your rooms. I did see people bring things to their rooms, but always on a dish or in a bowl...never on a tray. I think it was their way of 'limiting' how much you took...Just my humble opinon. ;)

I stayed on the 10th floor with a park view and concierge service last week. The room was fine for the two of us (king size bed), but a park view is really a joke. All you really see of Disneyland is trees. I did get to use the video camera's zoom to confirm that Mulholland Madness and the Zephyr were not running, saving us the trip.

I would suggest that you skip the concierge service. The food offerings are pretty slim, and don't make up for the added cost. Maybe the biggest benefit is the exclusive elevator, and it's only a benefit if you are on the 11th floor.

I thought the room was in great shape and very clean, maybe a bit on the small side though. Theming-wise, it's my favorite Disney room we have stayed in.

Save your money on concierge service and the park view. Use what you save to eat at Naples one night or hit the dessert balcony.

Like one of the other posters, we stayed on the 9th floor, Sierra, with a pool view, concierge. The express elevator is an interesting, if minor, perk, for one key reason: the damn elevators take FOREVER.

If you decide to take a break in the middle of the day, and head to the concierge lounge for their meager snacks and a drink, it's very quick to get from the DD monorail station to the lounge -- five minutes or so.

Going by regular elevator, even if you just want to go to your room for a minute to get something you forgot, can find you spending five minutes in the lobby, cooling your heels, then another five minutes in your hallway, waiting AGAIN for the dadblasted elevator.

I know Disney is notorious for its lines, but who knew some of the worst would be in your own hotel, waiting for the lift??

True story about the elevators.

**side note**Greg, we were in room 2754, were you close??? :) **

There were about a million college students staying at The DL Hotel last week and this weekend and I do believe that is why the elevators were moving at a snail's pace.

I made use of the other set of elevators which were almost always empty....the kids were told not to use these (for reasons that didn't make sense to me).

And the thing about the glass elevator, like someone else mentioned...it only goes from Ground level to the 11th floor...you'd have to walk down or take the elevator down to your floor.

Wow: we were in 2746! Smack dab next to those durn elevators. (But it was surprisingly quiet anyway...)

Yes, the student quotient was unbelievably high that weekend, wasn't it? Egad. One evening we got on the elevator and - to our amazement - there was only one other couple on board. The wife, seeing us, said: "Thank God, no kids."

My wife, astonished, said "Aw, how can you be at Disney and not love kids?"

And the other woman said, with a sigh, "Oh, LITTLE ones are fine. It's the TEENAGERS that are driving me crazy..."

We laughed. We knew EXACTLY what she meant...

;)

The WDW concierge services are much better. This is what the Polynesian offers in their lounge. We stayed there last July and when we tried the DLH concierge lounge the following November we were very disappointed.

The Polynesian lounge selection:

Kakahiaka (morning service) 7:00 AM to 10:30 AM(muffins and pastries, tropical fruit, croissants, english muffins, bagels, cream cheese, cereal, milk, orange juice, pineapple guava juice, ice tea, coffee, bottled water and toasters are available.)
Auinala (afternoon service)12:00 PM to 4:00 PM(fruit juice, bottled water, soda, ice tea, cookies, tropical fruit, gummy worms and m&m's for the kids)
Ahiahi (evening service) 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM which would include different themes each day. Some examples during our stay would be:
Sunday Mexican: Lasagna, tortilla chips, cheese, salsa, grilled vegetables, and tropical fruit.
Monday Asian: Sushi, noodles, shrimp, fruit salsa, and eggrolls.
Tuesday Luau: Sesame Chicken pasta with sweet garlic soy, tropical fruits, noodles, and cheese.
Wednesday Ohana: Vegetable springrolls with sweet chili sauce, Apple pasta salad, tropical fruit.
Thursday Kona: Sticky chicken wings, chicken fajitas with char sui sauce, potato and macaroni salad, tropical fruits.
Friday Italian: Meatballs in sauce, antipasto salad, pasta, tropical fruits.
Saturday Moroccan: Cous Cous with vegetables, spicy bean dip, pita bread, cucumber and tomato salad, tropical fruits.
(These selections do change and there are other things offered in addition but this should give you an idea of what it is like.)
Aumoe (late evening service) wine and cheese as well as cordials and desserts.

They even left free stuff in our room like Disney stuffed characters and a cake and balloons for my birthday.

Love The Poly!

We have experienced exceptional service from the concierge staff at The Poly. And not just once, but twice. Always warm and friendly yet professional. :)

Each day housekeeping (The Poly) would arrange our kid's toys on the bed to depict adorable little scenes. They were very creative with the towels...making fun animals and fans and little pathways to goodies like candies. :)

Housekeeping did NONE of the above for us at The DL Hotel! :( Not one cute thing! They kept our room very clean and the towels plentiful, but no extras! :(

LOL Greg! Can't believe we were just a couple doors down from eachother. My mother was on the 6th floor next to the elevators and she said it (the elevators) didn't bother her at all either. HOWEVER, she was on the phone to everyone and anyone who would listen to her....complaining about those kids. Did you happen to recieve any prank calls or prank knocks on your door while they were there???

We did. They were always calling us (by mistake I imagine) at all hours of the night....and knocking on our door only to say 'oops, I'm sorry. I thought this was someone else's room"

Positive note: the students that I encoutered INSIDE the elevators were very polite and made fun, pleasant conversation with my 3 y/o. They were always very nice to us. :)

Sunday evening was very quiet in the hotel, as they left Sunday morning. ;)

When advice is asked for it is uaually divided on most things. That is still a help when making a decision about something. In this case it is unanimous! I will save the $ $I would have spent on concierge and take the family out for a lovely meal.....!

Thanks again

Karen
