Just curious where you got your information as IME the giraffes are out all night and all day along w/ the other savanna inhabitants. Some animals remain on the savannahs 24 hours a day. Some (such as giraffes) go into their barns in the evenings and are usually released very early the following day. There is no set schedule that I am aware of.
Animals have gone into the barns for about 90 minutes a day in the mornings according to what I've been told by husbandry and observed. Since Arusha and Uzima share a barn and there are a limited number of husbandry folks to move & care for the animals they do one savanna at a time.
My villa overlooking Arusha last Dec. happened to offer a good view of the Arusha animals leaving their barn after their morning check - it made me think of a scene from Noah's Ark. The order the animals go in and then are released from their barn is very species specific and depends on which ones move faster/dawdle/get along w/ others, etc..
It's possible things have changed since my last Wanyama Safari/AKL stay last December.
Hopefully someone who's done a recent Wanyama or night safari or lunch with an animal specialist can confirm with the actual husbandry staff what current practices are.
