Disneyfied! Two sisters return to WDW after 21 years. [micro mini update 11/30 p. 14]

The bathroom has me loling.
Then again, I find you seeking money for IASW funny.

As we were, um, powdering our noses, a woman came in with her son and entered one of the stalls. She then said, “You pull down your pants, I’ll get things ready, and then we’ll sing”. Yes, sing. She and her son sang a few stanzas of My Bonnie Lies over the Ocean and other jaunty tunes. It was so bizarre.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: this had me laughing so hard my co-worker had to hand me a tissue!!

What a great TR - and your pictures are totally amazing!! I'd love to use the one of Snow White as a background for my computer - may I borrow it please?

Hi! Just joining in here! Sounds like a great trip so far! That bathroom story is hilarious - I mean, my son (when he was like 3!) would whistle "Never Smile At A Crocodile" when he was going to the bathroom, but we certainly didn't do it together! He did do it in public bathrooms though while I was standing outside the stall, and even then, we got some looks! :lmao:

Maybe he's really scared of the automatic toilets and for some reason "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean" is theraputic in some way. :confused3 Don't know, but boy, I'm sure that was a strange thing to hear in the stall next to you! :rotfl2:

Thanks for the great report! Waiting for more...popcorn::

Good luck finding a wife like that :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

I guess that's why they invented eharmony!

I sing to my dh when he uses the restroom everyday still. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Kidding of course! :lmao:

I was such a mean big sister!

Thanks! It's not the best quality photo, but you can certainly use it on your computer. Here's a link to a slightly higher res version of it.

Ha ha! The part that seemed so weird was how organized she was about it. It was like they made a habit out of having singalongs each time they used the facilities. Since we were at Columbia Harbour House, it was certainly appropriate that they used a sea shanty as their theme. I'll never hear My Bonnie and think of anything else!

OK, the bathroom thing is just a weeeee (haha) bit weird. :rotfl2:

So, do I understand correctly ... you went to the MK on a Saturday morning and the crowds were light? Where the heck was everyone else? :confused3

It was great! There were some crowded areas around the park in the afternoon, but the longest we waited for anything was Peter Pan (maybe 15 minutes) and then Big Thunder -- when lightning shut it down for 15 minutes or so. We used fastpasses on a few things, but weren't fanatics about it. It was amazing! I swear by those geniuses at touringplans. I never would have done MK on a Saturday if it wasn't for them!

I didn't know the Small World clock did that, I'll have to watch for it this time.

Okay, if the little boy was beyond a toddler I think the Momma's got some issues....:rotfl: But it sure makes a funny family joke!!!!

The clock does it's thing every 15 minutes. Pretty cute! I *do* think Momma's got some issues. Poor little guy.

Magic Kingdom Part I and II

Magic Kingdom – Part III

In reviewing my photos, I see we had also hit Pirates of the Caribbean before we went to lunch. That was another walk-on. We were getting so lucky with the lines! The ride is still a classic, but in my opinion, the Captain Jack animatronics detracted a bit from the ride. There were too many of them and they were a bit too good. The newer, more advanced animatronics made the original parts of the attraction seem less real than they used to. That said; we still very much enjoyed the attraction. The cannon effect was amazing. I really felt like a cannonball just whizzed past my head!

I had to get a shot of the hairy legged pirate sitting on the bridge. It’s very dark, but if you want a yo ho yo ho fix, here’s a video clip.

Getting back on, err, track... After lunch, we took our fastpasses and headed to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. It was still raining a bit. Nothing unmanageable though. The sky was grey and I couldn’t get a good picture, but I stopped and snapped a shot of the beautiful pink trees at the Riverboat landing. Does anyone know what kind of trees these are? I thought they were amazingly gorgeous.

When we got to Big Thunder we realized that we were a bit early for our fastpasses. The CM noticed we were walking away and, seeing we were only 15 minutes ahead of schedule, waved us in. This was the first ride we fastpassed at Magic Kingdom, and I have to say I really enjoyed just walking all the way down to the loading area with no wait.

Unfortunately there was lightning in the area and the ride went down just before we were going to get in our train. Boo. The same thing happened on Splash Mountain, but we had luckily just gone down the big hill and were able to finish out the ride. We weren’t sure how long the ride would be down this time. No one else seemed to be leaving, so we waited it out. The recorded message got a little repetitive. After 15 minutes or so, the familiar Big Thunder music started up again and everyone clapped and cheered. We had such a blast on this ride. We both screamed and giggled through all of the swoops and curves. What a ball! My sister and I are very silly by nature, and we think the world would be a better place if life were more like a musical, so there may have been some frontier-style do-si-doing as we moved along to our next attraction.

I wanted to ride the train and my sister needed a special battery for her camera, so we decided to head to the Frontierland station to take the train to Main Street. Many of my favorite Disney guys, like Walt, Ward Kimball and Ollie Johnston, were train aficionados so I knew I couldn’t miss it. I’m no trainspotter, but I hope that one day I can become an eccentric millionaire so I too can have a train of my very own in my backyard. Has anyone taken The Magic Behind Our Steam Trains Tour? I’d like to do that on my next trip. I think my boyfriend would really like it, so I’m trying to use the tour as a lure to get him to go with me. Anyway, after a short wait, we boarded the Roger E. Broggie and enjoyed the ride to Main Street.

We stopped in at the camera center at Exposition Hall. Molly found the battery she needed, which sadly still did not bring her camera back to life. The error message on her LCD put a bit of a damper on things, but we perked up when we saw a cavalcade of familiar characters walking through the shop. Since neither of us have kids, visiting the characters wasn’t high on our list of must-dos. It was fun to just stumble upon them like this.

As we left Exposition hall we noticed that Pinocchio and Geppetto were waiting outside, with not much of a line. We decided that since we were at Disney World, we needed at least one shot with a character and hopped in line. While waiting, we saw a cute little reference to Lady and the Tramp embedded in the sidewalk.

My sister and I are both pretty shy, so we felt rather embarrassed being the only people in line sans kids. I almost chickened out, but soon it was our turn, and we asked the nice character handler to snap our photo with the famous father and son, Geppetto & Pinocchio. They were both very friendly. The photo didn't turn out so well, but here's the embarrassing evidence! My sister is the blonde and I’m the brunette (with my tummy sticking out in an unfortunate manner, ugh). My sister talked me into wearing that t-shirt. I had brought it along to wear to bed, but if you can’t wear a Disney t-shirt to the Magic Kingdom, then were can you?

Pinocchio blew me a kiss as we were leaving. I thought he had pretty nice legs for a real boy!

Next up, Spoiler alert! Video of our day at the Magic Kingdom.

Loving your TR!!

"Does anyone know what kind of trees these are?"

I have no idea, but they look like really, really big crepe myrtles. You're right, they're gorgeous!

Thanks! I just googled for crepe myrtles. They're beautiful! I loved the foliage they have growing in Magic Kingdom. It's so different from what you see here in Minnesota.

great update and pics.

don't be embarrassed if you were the only adults. Disney is every bit for adults as it i for kids.

Thanks! The only time I felt embarrassed was when we were waiting in line for the characters. I'm glad we did it though. It's fun to have the photo!

:lmao: I would love to see you and your sis do-si-doing through Fronteirland! I completely agree (and so would MY sister) about life needing to be more like a musical!

Love the Lady and the Tramp detail... I've never seen that!

And I'm so glad you hung in there, embarassment and all, to get a shot with the characters... it such a great picture!!

Thanks for the links in your updates, too.. it's fun to read about some of the things you did.

Yes indeedy, we've done the Magic Behind the Steam Trains Tour ...

here's what I had to say about it before I gave up on my 2006 trip report ... I'm better at food porn. :rotfl2: Hope it helps!

I Choo-Choo-Choose You, Part I

I Choo-Choo-Choose You, Part II

Thank you! It was fun to read about it. I didn't realize the tour was quite that long. Too bad they don't have a tour for train dilettantes. Also, you excel at food porn! I'm sure you could make the counter service meals my sister and I stuck to sound interesting.

:rotfl2:

Great update, When we went last year I felt a bit awkward being an adult in the character lines but I soon got over that. Meeting the characters is fun! For kids and adults. ;)

It was fun, but I still don't think I could meet a face character. That seems really awkward!

Thanks! It's such a fun place to be with a sibling. All of those silly things you used to do in childhood come back out. We had a great time being dorky together!

You can probably tell that I love Disney history. Thanks for enjoying the links!

Are you going to start a trip report for the Minnie Marathon? I'd love to read it. I'm terribly out of shape now, but I would like to do it someday!

You are a riot! Love the title (and closing line) of this update. :rotfl2:

I've never met a character either...DH and I went for our honeymoon in 2006 as our first trip and just skipped over all that since we didn't have children and aren't terribly into the characters. They are neat, but it's not a big deal to us. This year we are doing Chef Mickey's...it makes me nervous even! I don't know what I would even say to a face character...so I'm with ya on all that....

DH and I just watched a movie from Netflix all about the history of Walt. Growing up, family life, how he started out, etc. It was really really good for history nerds! (which we are!)
