Here is just a quick review with pics. There was a thread started the other day comparing the Carnival Magic to the Disney Magic. Honestly I don't think those two should be compared. I've been on some older Carnival ships and the Disney Magic and the Carnival Magic is a new and larger ship. I was only on the boat for 1 night so please take my opinion with a grain of salt. It may be different after going on a 7 night cruise.

I thought the ship was very nice, especially for Carnival. Like I said previously, I've been on the older ships and I honestly didn't really care for them at all. This ship had a lot of outdoor activities for the kids as well as adults. I really wish Disney would have done a better job with the outdoor water areas. I definitely think that Carnival has them beat in that area. I was just on the Disney Dream in September and although I have no complaints, my kids would have loved a bigger better water area. There is also a jungle gym type area that looked really fun. There were plenty of bars and a huge casino if you like that type of thing. There were two specialty restaurants that I noticed and the sample that I had from the Italian restaurant was pretty good but I don't think it will compare to Palo.

I don't think my kids would like the kids club. Although the area is pretty big and open it just didn't compare to Disney. There are also a few activities that are not free like the Build a Bear workshop.

Dinner was very interesting! I thought it was hilarious but I know for sure that some people will hate it. Before the food was served, one of the entertainers sang a song by Sinatra. It was very nice and tastefully done, and then the show started:rotfl:. A few of the servers put a colorful ruffle top and and danced on top of the little mini serving areas. They danced to Low by Flo Rida! It was hilarious and very unexpected.

In my opinion, Disney has my vote. I know that I could take this cruise out of Galveston which is only about an hour away for my but I will just save a little more and wait until I can take a Disney cruise. I know my title is a little missleading since this is really not a comparison. There are plenty DCL reviews on this board. This is mainly for those of you that have gone on DCL and are thinking about taking a Carnival cruise on one of the new ships. Here are a few pics. You can see all 88 of them here if you like.

Great review, but would probably be better off over on the Carnival Magic vs Disney Magic thread, rather than on it's own.

I agree but that thread went completely off topic. I am also not comparing the The Disney Magic to the Carnival Magic.

Thank you for posting those pictures! I looked through all 90 of them.

That water area looks FABULOUS! I love it and would be fighting my kids to be there :rotfl:

The rest of the ship didn't really tickle my fancy. Too glitzy and Las Vegas-y. But it looks very nice and I can see why some folks would chose it.

This thread is perfectly fine on it's own. As was previously stated and as you know, that thread went off topic.

OP - I've added a link to this thread on the other thread.

I want to be a kid and play in the water area!!! And I hope to get a chance to do that on Disney's Fantasy...they're adding a new water feature.
My son (18) will like the ropes on the (Carnival) Magic. ANd now I can show him a picture of what his stateroom will look like. His Dad and I are in an aft wrap-around.

Thanks so much for your report, and the pictures...off to look at all of the rest of them.

The singing waiters ARE a surprise on Carnival...on some longer cruises, they do it every night. It's kind of corny, but it added a little something to dinner.

Thanks for the pictures. Wow that waterplay area looks FUN! The balcony stateroom is better than I had imagined. Seeing the pictures of the Carnival Magic were great to see...while I love all things DCL, for a new and interesting itinerary (at a better price than DCL) I'd consider another line.

Thanks for the pics! I always wonder what the other ships look like. But I never really ventured out to other cruise sites to check them out... :lmao: So this is perfect.

Awesome review. Thanks for sharing! It's exactly what I was looking for! Looks like a lot of fun, but prefer Disney decor.

Just did the Dream and I'm debating a cruise on the Carnival Magic since it sails out of Galveston (no airfare for me) and it sails during the summer, unlike the Disney Magic. I think my kids would love that water works area, that was probably my one complaint on the Dream. But they also loved the kids clubs, and I know Carnival's won't be as good as Disney's.

Don't be so sure about the kids clubs. My boys loved them on Carnival.
