Hi everyone. I just got an email from Disney Movie Club offering 4 Disney DVDs for $1.99 each. It also advertises getting two bonus DVD -- one for $14.99 and another for $9.99. The only thing is you have to commit to buying 5 DVDs within the next 2 years (each for $19.99 plus S&H).

Has anybody done this? Is it a good deal? Also, I didn't see any info about them offering Blu-ray. Do they offer these as well, or just regular DVDs?

    Thanks for the info!

I had no problems buying the required regularly priced movies. I was able to fulfill my obligations within a year and now I can buy them at significantly reduced prices. I've even forgotten to reply and returned a few movies and they are great about issuing a credit quickly. I've had no complaints at all about this service.

I had a terrible experience with Disney Movie Club about 5 years ago. I got sucked in by the great introductory offer...then the "rest of the movies" began to arrive. By the time they added shipping, I could have purchased them myself somewhere else for far less money. Cost-wise, with the "discounted" and "free" movies, I ended up breaking about even. All of that is not so terrible - chalk one up to experience. The terrible part was that once my obligation was complete, I couldn't cancel my membership. I returned movies; I wrote CANCEL on everything they sent me and mailed it back; I sent separate letters; I went to websites and called phone numbers galore but NOWHERE on any paper correspondence; on any website; or any search was there an option to cancel your membership or a phone number through which you could actually reach a human being. The number they provide puts you in a funky automated loop that never ends and gives you no option for customer service or cancel my membership or speak to a representative. I'm not kidding, it took me two years to get out of it and was one of the most frustrating mistakes I ever made. I'm just one opinion, and it may be different now, but I would never do it again.

The introductory offer is by far the best deal -- but I LOVE the club! I mean, there's a different special each month, so if you buy more than 1 movie at a time, you're getting at least a decent deal (to get the special, you have to buy one at regular price). And the club's regular prices aren't much more than you'd pay in a store -- if not the same price. Yes, you have to add shipping, but all together, if you're buying more than 1 movie, it's a pretty good deal. Not to mention the fact that there are some club exclusives. There are also grown up movies (not porno-adult movies, I just mean movies that aren't suited as well for children -- like Pretty Woman or Sweet Home Alabama, for example) and TV boxed sets. I think they also offer Blu Ray after you join (I don't have a Blu Ray player, so I've never really paid that much attention to it). But all in all, I love it!

I had this happen to me years ago with Columbia House. I sent a letter to cancel my membership and then they sent me a tape the next month because I hadn't replied back with the card they send you. I returned the tape and again wrote "cancel membership" on it. They then had the nerve to write me a letter chastising me for sending it back and not returning the card. I wrote back to them that the membership had been canceled and if they sent me another tape, it was going to be considered a gift from them. I told them that the law states (or it did at the time) that if you receive something in the mail that was not ordered, you can keep it as a gift. Needless to say, they canceled my membership.:scratchin I've been leery to join any other memberships since then.

I finally finished the 5 movie obligation, after 1.5 years, and I had all intents to cancel, but wow, the deals! Once you're done with the obligation, you become a "VIP".

The key, IMO, to being happy with the obligation is to order them as fast as you can. Otherwise the incredible deal you got on those first movies gets forgotten, and you start looking at the cost of the movie plus shipping compared to the cost of it at Costco or Amazon or wherever else. That's what happened with us, and what FINALLY got me to buy the last movie was finding something I didn't see anywhere else, not even Amazon (special version of Lilo and Stitch in a tin box).

You can send in the paper form that comes every 3+ weeks, you can reply to the email they send (for me they send the email a couple days after I get the mail, and to reply you log in to your account and either order or decline the current offering, then they send you a confirmation email about it a few hours later), or you can set a computer calendar up to check every week or so to make sure you haven't missed a mailing or emailing.

Although I goofed once with a Scholastic book club and got an unwanted mailing, I haven't yet with DMC (was a day away from goofing though once), and I've enjoyed it.

AND I joined through sunshine rewards and it successfully credited, so I got SR credits along with getting good deals on the movies. :)
