Not sure if this has been discussed here yet or not but I received some unofficial information on the Magic Drydock for 2013.

Please keep in mind that while I beleive this is from a reliable source this is in no way official information.

The Disney Magic will undergo a 'major retrofit' while in dry-dock in Cadiz, Spain. The dry-dock will take place sometime in the fall of 2013 and will last at least 6 weeks.

    Let the speculation begin :rotfl2:

The Magics 2013 dry dock has been a major topic, though a lack of rumors has caused the thread to go under the radar. However, your information states that the dry dock will be in Cadiz, Spain! This I do not believe had ever been discussed before! Most assumed she would be returning to Fincantieri. pirate:

We heard on our 10/20 Fantasy cruise from a CM confirmation of the dry dock time. Statements included "complete stateroom overhaul" and "cutting into the hull to access and refurbish the engine". It was not specified where these would be taking place. We also discussed length of time the Magic would be out of service and were told "an expected 6 weeks".

We were told by CMs that all staterooms would be refurbished "completely" amd that Topsiders would be remodeled into something similar to Cabanas.

We also heard staterooms would get a major rehab. Also heard that the bar area would be completely gutted and redesigned so that bars would hang off a common area. In addition, major refurbs to .Parrot Cay and Animators (AP to be more like Dream/Fantasy).

Just off the Magic today :sad2: and while it is still a beautiful ship, she is showing her age in areas. We had a great time, can't wait to sail again.

Hmmm - maybe we should have posted when we heard about Spain back in September. We ran in to our favorite server on the Magic back in Sept and he knew then that the dry-dock would be in Cadiz. The crew seemed really excited by that since I guess there's more to do in that area than in Venice (at it's cheaper).

The only thing they could tell us was that the buffet seating area in back of the Magic would be enclosed more - so they could use the seating in the buffet area everyday regardless of weather.

When do they make announcements for what they intend to do?

I agree 100%. Our last time on the Magic all we could say was 'this ship needs a rehab'. It wasn't as if she was falling apart but you could tell it was just time.

That would be great but since the classic ships are so much smaller, they'd have to scale back on the length of the ride. Aqua-duckling?

This bit of news I am very disappointed in. I hated the layout of Cabanas and much prefer the cafeteria style on the older ships! :(

We heard that Palo was going to be expanded so no one could walk around the outside, no more tables added just making it a little roomier.

We were told it was not a secret - she will be in dry dock in Italy where she was constructed.

Hope your source was reliable, in Sept we had 4 different CM along with a member of the ship's security team tell us despite what others had said they were not going to Italy but rather to Spain as others have reported here. I understand that when DCL contracted in Germany for the Dream class the shipyard ard were the Magic/Wonder were made was not happy that they lost the bid. I guess we will all just have to wait and see come the fall of 2013!

Most rumours of a more recent nature, put the dry dock in Spain. When the drydock was first speculated upon, it was thought possibly in Italy, to correspond with the Venice cruises, however, further speculation lead to a different Fincantieri shipyard in Palermo, Sicily being considered. Based on the number of recent reports from crew members, the leading location is now Cadiz, Spain, and has been for several months. Reference the following web site...

Everything I've heard all year was that it was going to Spain. I've never heard anything mentioned about Italy (or even Germany). :confused3
