Disney Magic, 10/15/2016 - New York

I'm so looking forward to this cruise. I've cruised before and I've been to Disney many many times, but I've never done the Disney Cruise because I would have to fly to get to the cruise. But, since they are now leaving from New York I'm thrilled. I booked this trip on May 23, 2015, 3 days after coming back from Disney in Orlando.

Yay! So glad there is a meet here for the 10/15 cruise! This will be only my 2nd Disney cruise. My first one was also out of NY which is so convenient for me. Can't wait!!

I love cruising from up here. This is my 1st Disney Cruise but I've cruised before and left from Bayonne, NJ which is really close to me. NY is close too, so I love the convenience. Nice meeting you Kate27

Joining! This is my 6th cruise, 1st on DCL, DH's 4th cruise and 1st ever for DS3. My in-laws are booked as well, but I'm not convinced they will actually make the trip.

Welcome luvpooh. So my question to you is.....is it a good thing or bad thing if in-laws don't make the trip....lol
can you tell me what DH and DS3 means. I've never done a disney cruise and don't know all the lingo. I've cruised 3 times before but only on Celebrity

Wellllll, lol, it would be good for my bank account if they didn't go! I'd love if they could come, but both have health issues that may prevent them from being able to make it.

DH = dear husband and DS= dear son (message board lingo).

The 3 in this case refers to my son's age. Who also 'may not go on the cruise' if he isn't potty trained. Hey, it's the best shot at encouraging (strong-arming?) him into doing it!

:welcome:

Thanks for joining up! Who all will be traveling in your group? Do you live near NYC?

Any tips for us DCL first timers? Which ships have you been on?

This will be our 4th Disney cruise (2nd out of NY) but just learned about the boards and am looking forward to making some friends before we sail.

Same questions for @MamaSue2170 and @kate27. Who is in your traveling parties? Any other fun info or tips?

I've been doing a lot of research, but haven't cruised since our honeymoon in 2008, and never with kids. I hope it's as good as I remember!

We live in MD so about 3 hours outside of NYC. It'll be me, my husband and our daughter who will just have turned 8.

Tips... Parents should definitely treat themselves to some alone time and dine at Palo or Remy. We didn't do it until our 3rd cruise and we were missing out.

Bring pillowcases and sharpies and drop them off at Guest Services when you arrive so your little ones will have personalized keepsakes of their cruise. We do one for the princesses and the other for the rest of the characters.

We sailed the Magic to Canada in 2012 before it was reimagined and again in 2014 to the Westerm Caribbean. In 2015 we sailed the Fantasy to the Eastern Caribbean. Think we prefer the smaller Magic but I'm looking forward to the Boutique upgrade because my daughter loves her princess makeover on the last cruise.

This is no longer offered (since about last August). If you want autographs from the characters now, you must bring your items to the meet and greets and get them signed there.

Sorry for there misinformation. Now that I think of it, we did get the princesses to sign in person on the Fantasy in Nov 2015.

Do you have any tips for things that have changed on the Magic?

I'm traveling with my daughter. I've cruised before. Never on Disney and I can't wait

Cool, thanks for sharing guys!

If we can get Palo brunch, I would like to do that. This also assumes that the little guy takes to the club.

Hi! It's just me (45) and my mom (72) traveling. We are the Disney nuts of the family. :) We so enjoyed our first Disney cruise and can't wait for this one. We loved the 2 full at-sea days on the way down and the 2 full at-sea days on the way back. It gives plenty of time to enjoy all the ship has to offer. I snorkeled for the first time in my life at Castaway Cay so if that's your sort of thing I recommend it. And you may want to buy a one-time use underwater camera to take underwater pics. I got one from Amazon for about $8. We are early people so we like to get up early and be at breakfast around 7; it's much less crowded then. We also prefer the early dinner. I'll try to think of some more tips. It's so nice to "meet" you all. :)

Hi Kate27....I've done DisneyWorld alot, but this is my first Disney cruise (I've done other cruises, just not with Disney). I'm traveling with my daughter (31) and me (well 66 by the time of the cruise). Since my daughter is in a wheelchair, I'm not so sure I can snorkel. I know daughter won't be able to. I'm an early person, but daughter....not so much. I told her she has to get up and ready early because this cruise is costing a FORTUNE....lol. And I plan on doing everything the ship has to offer. We took the late dinner because ....we no reason....daughter would rather see show early and eat later. Nice to meet you also.

Hello! We just booked this one and I'm so excited to not have to do the airport hassle!
It is myself, Dh, Dd13 and Dd6, my mom, and her two step grandkids, ages 8 &9.
It's my families 4th DCL cruise, also our "grand slam". My mom's 2nd and grandkids never sailed or been to WDW so she's excited to take them.
We live in Burlington County, NJ and my mom in Cumberland County.
Can't wait!

HI jskacoc......welcome. We come from Essex County....so it's approximately a 20 minute drive for us. I'm happy not to be flying. My daughter can pack all the luggage she wants (and she probably will). She may be in a wheelchair....but she loves to look good and I'm sure she will pack everything she owns...and thats alot.
