Hi, I'm brand new to the Forum so please be gentle. :)
First of all - you guys ROCK! What an incredible wealth of information!
I've searched everywhere but can't find the answer to my question. I hope opening a new thread is the proper procedure...
Is it possible to pay for my Disney Cruise with Disney Gift Cards. I read a post that recommended buying Disney Gift Cards from Target since if you use your Target CC you will get a 5% discount.
Could I pay for my whole cruise with these? We are looking at 3 concierge rooms for a 4 night cruise in May 2014 (special family celebration), so the savings could be substantial!
Thanks in advance for any insight.

Yes, you can. I did exactly that. Depending on how you booked you can either call Disney or your TA and give them the numbers or you can enter them all yourself if there is an online system. I went through Dreams Unlimited and entered them all online. This particular TA asks that you enter no more than 10 per day so I just had to do it for several days in a row.

The only downside to using the Target cards is that they usually only carry them in $25 or $50 increments. So you may end up with a lot of cards to enter, but I felt the savings was worth it.

You sure can! I do this but I purchase my cards at our local Kroger because it earns me fuel points which saves me $$ at the pump. They also carry the gift cards that you can load up to $500 on so that makes it easier when entering the info on my TA's website. No matter where you buy the cards make sure that you keep them because any kind of refund will go back on the cards. :)

I would think the problem would be triggering limits with your Target card, esPecially if you used their debit card. A large purchase of gift cards looks to their system as if the card was stolen. This is what crooks do because the gift cards are hard to trace.

I was able to buy Disney gift cards sufficient to pay all my onboard bills, but I would buy a couple of cards each time I went to Target. Also, target only carries $50 cards around me. You are talking a lot of cards.

I work for Target. They will not limit your transaction with a Redcard debit card because it requires a PIN. Being an employee, I get 10% off of the gift cards + 5% with my Redcard. Add that to the 10% OBD and I get 25% off of my cruise. I love it!

There have been numerous reports of transactions being denied with the debit card because they were over the allowed daily limit.

FWIW, we have a debit card and 2 separate credit cards (one for each spouse) with $2500 limits. We purchased $5k worth of cards with the extra 5% pharmacy rewards no problem.

5% Pharmacy Reward? Is that different/in addition to the regular 5% back just for using the Target credit card?
UPDATE - I found this on Target's site - If I join Pharmacy Rewards and fill 5 prescriptions, I get a 1 day 5% discount card! WooHoo!!

Thank you all for the excellent replies so far. It's really had to find ways to get a discount on this cruise!
So far it sounds like the following are my best bet: (please confirm or deny)
- Book through Dreams Unlimited for the onboard credit
- Buy Disney Gift Cards from Target and pay for the cruise with them - 5% discount. (Better than the 2% cash back, and $50 OBC on Chase Disney CC) UPDATE - Also join Target Pharmacy Rewards, fill 5 prescriptions and get a 5% 1 day discount card in addition to 5% for using Target CC.
- I'm a first time Disney cruiser so the 10% onboard booking credit will have to wait until next time, but this is a good one!

Anything else you can think of?

This was not my experience. I used my Target debit card and it limited me to 6 transactions. I used the snip snap coupon and in doing so it limits you to only 4 gift cards per transaction (4 $50 total $200). I paid $171. It only allowed me 6 $171 transactions because after it assumes its fraud.

While at the register we (target employee and myself) called Target Red Card and they confirmed 6 transactions per day.

I find that each target seems to make their own rules however. Some except snip snap and others do not.

i posted this on another thread but as a recap i will tell you i received a letter from targets credit department saying that what i was doing was not allowed, that they considered it a business transaction and they would cancel my cc if it were to continue. i only purchased $2000. it was in 4 different transactions.
i guess target pics and chooses.

What is the 'snip snap' discount?

Sounds like it. I posted with you on that thread wondering if I would get the same. It's been over a month since I purchased $5K and nada.

Sorry you had a bad experience.

I don't get it? WHAT wasn't allowed?...buying gift cards with a credit card? How can they deny you? Please elucidate for me..:flower3:

I need to get a job at Target!!!

It was a $5 off $50 for $180 then $9 off for %5 Target. So for $200 in cards I paid $171. Saved $116.

Sorry if my math is off, but it looks like you saved $29. Not $116.

Sounds great!! And if you book your NEXT cruise on board, you can save ANOTHER 10% on that cruise.

The only thing I will say is that with my Disney Visa I get 6 months to pay it off. With Target I get one month. If you aren't traveling for several months you can just keep buying a few gift cards every month instead of all at once. I have been getting the extra pharmacy rewards about once a month, so once a month I get the GCs.
