We will be joining you! This our first cruise also. After reading the DisBoards and talking to others it seems that this particular cruise will likely have a lot of first-timers. Experienced cruisers won't take this cruise - too short and too expensive. However it works perfectly for us as we had a commitment to be in WDW on the 17th. Also, being our first cruise of any sort, we appreciated the short length. Hopefully, this will whet out appetite for future Disney cruises!

I'm so glad someone has seen my post :) A three day cruise is a perfect start before heading to Disney World. I have read about a really cool tradition on the Disney ships that are arranged among forum participates... It is called a fish extender. Hopefully, someone with experience can take the lead in informing us on how it is done :p

We are new to Disboards and this will be our second Disney cruise. We do not know what "fish extender" is, but hope to be enlightened soon. July will be here before we know it! Look forward to meeting you all.

I've never done a fish extender either, but I've been doing a lot of "research" :) It is like a secret Santa gift exchange. One of us will be the keeper of the list and send updates to everyone involved. Whoever wants to participate sends that person the names and ages of everyone in their party and your stateroom number. The keeper of the list will e-mail that information to all participants and while on the cruise, we visit all the staterooms and leave little gifts in the fish extender (can be anything that hangs from the fish outside your stateroom door). Each day when you come back to your room, there will be different goodies in your FE :goodvibes. There are a ton of threads that discuss it in more detail :) Can't wait to meet everybody!

We will on the cruise!! It will be our first Disney cruise. It will also be part of our honeymoon week!! I am so excited!! We are doing WDW the four days before and then relaxing on the cruise for the rest of the week. I totally want to do the Fish Extender idea!

Congratulations! How exciting!! If we don't end up with an experienced FE participant, I'd be happy to organize it. Still hoping someone who's actually participated in one may join us, though and take the wheel :sail:

Welcome! I am so excited more mouse fans are joining us on this Dream Cruise :) I am new too to the DIS forum. I have experience from another popular cruise forum and had great experiences. I love the fish extender idea... If you can't create one, I have found some being sold on eBay. The gifts do not have to be expensive, it is all in the fun in discovering something in your pocket.

I think we just need to list out how many are participating, how many kids, etc. We can use email to communicate as well if need be. My understanding is that we do a different gift for each family each day?? I may be wrong. But it sounds like fun and I want to go full out disney on this cruise :))

Me too! I think we can set up whatever rules we want. Some groups do one gift per stateroom, some do one per person, and I've heard of groups that do one gift per day too... I saw one set of guidelines that was pretty cool. They said that the minimum was one gift per stateroom. However, if you wanted to do more (gifts for each person or a different gift each day), that was welcomes too :) I like that people were given a little flexibility so they could choose based upon their budget and suitcase space how much to bring :)

I like the idea of one gift per stateroom and one per day. I already have ideas :)

We just came off another cruise Sunday where we had a rather unique gift exchange. Guests exchanged items representative of their home State or City. It also promoted getting to know one another a little better and was a lot of fun. See y'all in no time !!!
