DH and I, along with our 3 children (7, 4 & 2) will be sailing on the Disney Dream July 1st-July 4th. This is our first Disney cruise and our children's first ever cruise. We will be celebrating as our 7 year old turns 8 on July 2nd and we will be vacationing in Disney before as well as after the cruise. We had the 4 night cruise booked during the same week last summer but had to reschedule it due to injuries I had from a car accident. Very excited to finally get on the Disney Dream!

Who else is joining us?

Are you looking to use this as a start for your Cruise Meet thread? You need to put a request on the "Find your 2016 Dream Cruise Meet LINK here" thread asking for your link to be added to the first post. That way others will be able to find your cruise meet thread easier. Be sure to copy the URL at the top of this thread to be pasted into the request post.

Hi! We will be on board, too!! We spend time at the parks first, then hop on board withour children, DS age 11 and DD will be 9. It's our second time cruising with DCL, and it's going to be a major surprise for our kids who will think we are going home to the airport, but instead we will drive to the port!!! So excited!!!

What an amazing surprise your children will have!! We will be spending time at the parks before the cruise as well. We just watched the Food Network special about the Dream (re-run but who cares) and it got us all pumped up for the cruise!

We will be on this cruise too. It's our first Disney and our kids' first ever cruise. I have twin girls age 11 and our baby boy will just about be 1 by time we go on the cruise. I've just recently found out about the "fish extenders" how does that work?

A fish extender involves hanging some sort of receptacle outside of your cabin (they can be home made or custom made and usually there's 1 pocket for each person in your cabin). You sign up here or other locations to be part of an FE group. About 6 weeks before you sail the group will be finalized. You will be assigned a group and you will know the name, age, cabin number, favorite character, etc. of each person in your group. Since this is such a short cruise I am going to keep the groups small, about 10 cabins.

You can get as creative as you want with your gifts. You can provide individual gifts for each person in the cabin or a single gift that covers everyone in the cabin. The gifts can be Disney related or not. Drop the gifts off at anytime during your cruise and you will receive items in your fish extender as well from your group.

Some people enjoy getting involved in an FE, others don't. It is a personal preference. And just because you belong to a cruising group doesn't mean you have to participate in the FE.

I am going as well
Me and My sister will be celebrating my 18th birthday our first day on board it's my first cruise and I can't wait

Etsy, ebay, or make a DIY version - search fish extender DIY for available pics and directions. We don't do FE, as we don't want to come home with a bunch of random stuff/ clutter...plus, it can get expensive, and after spending an arm and a leg to be there, it's just not right for us. Not to say it might not be awesome for you guys, but just my 2cents!

We will be there as well! My husband and sons first cruise ever! My first Disney Cruise! We are going to celebrate our son's 3rd birthday (July 4th)! What better way to celebrate it than with Mickey, right!?!?

During our last cruise, we learned about the fish extender and were sad we didn't know about it sooner. We would love to participate in a fish extender this cruise. Anyone interested?

Has a fish extender been set up yet?

We would!
Hello, Doesn't seem like there is interest in a FE here and I don't see any on FB. Since we both have 3 "kids" joining us, would you be interested in just doing it together? I do have older kids though (but they all love Disney, thus the cruise). We'd love to pick out things for your younger kids. Mine are ages 18, 20 and 21. Let me know, sounds like it might be a lot less hassle than trying to get a group going. Kids would still be happy. We could just set our own limit if you want. Wendy

We are in for the FE whenever it gets set up or to be added to one if it's already set up.

It appears there's no Fish Extender group set up for this cruise here on DISboards. There may be other sites that have FE groups, but they are not DISboards connected.

I have a little write up of suggested procedure for setting up a FE group, if anyone is interested:
SETTING UP A FE GROUP
It appears there are a number of you who are interested in a Fish Extender group. There isn’t one currently set up here on DISboards. Here’s a little write up on how FE groups are set up:

There really are no “rules” as to how a FE program runs. Basically someone will step up and say “I’ll maintain the list”. This means they maintain the list of those who wish to participate. The group can decide on what information is necessary to produce FE gifts. A basic list may only have DISname/room number/number of people in the room. A more involved list could be first & last names/ages/room number/ favorite character/ favorite color/allergies/whatever is deemed necessary to know in order to create the gifts. Also a decision can be made as to size of FE group. Some groups break out the list(s) at 10-15 rooms max, so that there are multiple lists (and some people will participate in more than one list). Other groups just make one big list (upwards of 20-30 rooms).

The easiest, most private way to handle the information necessary to prepare the list (many people prefer not to put sensitive information on a public forum), is to use the “Conversation” feature here. There needs to be at least two people to start a conversation. Only the starter of the conversation (usually the organizer) can add additional people into the conversation (as long as they do NOT select “Allow anyone in the conversation to invite others” at the bottom of the reply window). Then when new people express a desire to join, usually by just saying “we want to join the FE”, the organizer can add them by clicking on the “Invite more” button in the “Conversation Participants” window (lower right of conversation page). Only those people participating in the conversation can see what’s posted there, and respond there. I will also note, to participate in conversations, everyone needs to have at least 10 posts. For those who wish to use this option for private conversations that don’t have 10 posts yet, head over to the Test Board to post and up your post count. http://www.disboards.com/forums/test-board.88/

Up to 20 people can participate in any given conversation.

At some point the list will “close”. Typically this happens 30-45 days out from the cruise, so that everyone participating has time to organize/prepare their gifts. Shortly before this time (about 2-3 weeks prior) the organizer will post the list, either directly on the Cruise Meet thread, OR via private conversation, or, possibly, via e-mails. This is to confirm everyone on the list is still participating. It’s important to make a statement about “anyone not confirming by XX date will be dropped” at this time. A little harsh, yes, but often there are people who will post on the cruise meet thread as soon as they reserve the cruise and say “I want to participate”, and are never heard from again.

Once the list closes, the organizer will post the final list. Also, a decision must be made as to whether to allow late additions. Sometimes there is a “pixie dust” list. That is, basically, a latecomers list that gets posted about a week out from the cruise that others may or may not add to their “final” list. Be sure the “pixie dust” list participants realize they may or may not get gifts from others, but are expected to provide gifts for the other FE participants anyway.

The other “biggie” is no other social media sites are allowed to be linked or search directions posted as to how to find that other site here on DISboards. Please read this: http://www.disboards.com/threads/im...uise-meet-and-fish-extender-programs.3353477/

As it seems there are a few here on your cruise meet thread who would be interested in doing this, who’s going to step up and volunteer to maintain the list?
