Dining plan and refillable mugs?

So, we are headed to WDW on Friday and just added the dining plan to our reservation this morning. I have been many times but have never used the dining plan. So, I'm clueless.

Anything I need to know? Did I see somewhere that refillable mugs come with it? If so, do you just get them the first time you get a beverage?

For 2011, mugs are included in the Deluxe plan and the quick service plan. Mugs are not included in the regular plan until 2012.

If you are entitled to the mugs, you can pick them up at your resort quick service location.

Every dining plan except the plus dining one (the one with 1 snack credit, 1 TS meal and 1 CS meal a day) I believe. I'm not sure about 2012. You pick the mugs up at the food court of whatever resort your staying at, usually they are by the cash registers.

On the regular dining plan (1 TS, 1 CS, 1 snack):

If you check in during 2011, the mug is not included.
If you are checking in during 2012, the mug will be included.

Something many people seem to not realize is that the tip is not included.
So please keep that in mind so you don't get sticker shock at the end of each table service meal.
The tax, however, is included.

If you are leaving on Friday, you should make your dining ressies ASAP!

I'm a month away and still checking often to try to get "better" times for my group.

Good Luck!

Completely agree. We are dining plan newbies and I was surprised how hard it was to find a good time almost 2 months prior to arrival. I have been checking 4-5 times a day to get a couple changed to better times.

I have a question here, I thought that the tip was only added automatically if your party had 6 or more. But I have heard several people mention the tips like they the are just added to your bill. There will only be three of us and I don't like the idea of Disney telling me what I have to tip.

When we went last year (4 people) they didn't add the tip, they have a space where you can write it in ( if using a cc or acct on file at Disney) - but I just slipped the cash into the folder. They come over to you first with the folder and you have to sign it or accept it or something and it was kind of weird because most people must just write in the tip, but I just said yes, run it through, I'm leaving cash for tip. My DH was making fun of me how I was doing it, but I didn't care!

Wow! I'm psyched to hear that the mugs are included in 2012. However, I'm also a little nervous. That's about a $50-60 value for our family, so how will disney make up for it? Either DP prices have gone up, or they may not be offering FD for when we go?

You will want to wash the mugs out before you use them. So what I would do is just get them, plop them down empty on register and they will deduct them from your "mug credit" or however they are doing it. Then I would wash them out good before use. (I'm like that! I would bring them back to my room first -- usu. I forget to bring dishsoap and use the regular there, but this year I'm remembering it, because it seems I'm washing those things all the time.)

Prices went up significantly. And the mugs don't really cost Disney much. Afterall, you can easily buy a week's worth of soda and stick it in the fridge for a tiny fraction of the price of the mugs.

For parties under 6, I think they print a suggested 18% tip amount on the bill. It saves you from doing the math.
