I was just wondering if anyone has ever stayed in a 'deluxe' room at the Grand Floridian - What is the difference between that room and a standard one? Does it have a seperate seating area? Is it club level? Thanks for any help or photos :worship:

There was a thread going just a few days ago, that you might want to check out here http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1835556.

Basically, the GF has a category called "deluxe". All of these rooms are in the main building and there are two different sub categories that you can book.

#1A. King Deluxe room: there are 9 rooms located on the 2nd floor of the main building. They all come with king beds, whirlpool tubs, a small sitting area and a balcony that overlooks the castle. They are all the same size as a standard room. (room #4201-4209) (maximum occupancy is 2)

#1B. King Deluxe room: there are 6 rooms located on either end of floors 3, 4 and 5 of the main building. They all come with king beds, regular tubs, larger sitting area and turret style windows that offer a panoramic view of the resort. None of these rooms have a balcony, but they are much larger. (room #4321, 4421, 4021 & I think #4330, 4430, 4030) (maximum occupancy is 2) Here is the room layout for the King deluxe options:

#2. Standard Deluxe room: There are 6 rooms in total. They all come with 2 queen beds and a little sitting area with a couch and chairs. They all offer either a view of the pool/courtyard or the beach. All have balconies. There are 4 designs which are shaped like a big square and 2 which are more in the shape of a triangle. If you go to the link that I provided, you'll see some photos at the end of the thread of a triangle shaped design. (room numbers, Option 1 design: 4319, 4419, 4320, 4420 Option 2 design: 4322, 4422)(maximum occupancy is 4) Here is the room layout for the standard deluxe options:

You may be interested in a lodge tower room as well. These rooms are much less expensive than a room in the main building, they sleep 5 and there is a little seating area/living room as well. Until you get into a suite though, all of these rooms are just bigger standard rooms. There isn't a separation between the seating areas and the bedrooms.

As an FYI, this is the layout of a lodge tower room:

There are 6 deluxe rooms at the GF all located in the main building, all concierge. We stay in room 4420 because it is next to the lounge & one of the 2 that are 700+ square feet . We stay the week of July 13th every year because our anniversary is on the 18th. These rooms are extremely hard to get, we book ours the day prior to check out each trip. The other 4 deluxe rooms are approx. 620 square feet. Room rate during July is $670 + 12% resort tax, so about $750 per night then the rate drops about $90 after July 20th. We are a family of 2 adults, a 15 yr old, a 9 yr old, a 2 yr old and a 1 yr old. One difference you may want to consider is that the deluxe room , although, 200-300 square feet bigger than a standard room, does not have the daybed. Instead, there is a couch & coffee table. There is also a wet bar. The bathroom is much bigger than the average club level bathrooms.

We stayed here since 2003 & I would never stay anywhere in the GF except for the main building, club level. It simply is not worth the price of paying nearly $500 per night plus meals only to hike half a mile to the monorail.

It is a matter of personal preference, I guess. Last year, we were upgraded to a $2800 per night suite on the 5th floor due to a plumbing problem in 4420 & I prefer 4420 over the suite due to the noise level. Not sure if this is the case with all the suites on the 5th level, but the noise from sight seers in the lobby could easly be heard in the mornings.

I think actually there are 21 deluxe rooms in the main building. The 6 you are referring to are the king deluxe turret style. There are also 6 standard deluxe rooms and another 9 king standard styles on the 2nd floor.

Edited to add... Hi Kelly

We stayed in a suite on the 5th floor, #4021 and heard absolutely zero noise from the lobby below. I did enjoy cracking our door open a bit at night though and hearing the music from the orchestra playing.

Since there are some very knowledgeable people on this thread, what floor of the main building are the one-bedroom suites located? If they are on the fifth floor, does this mean they have no balconies? Thanks.

Hi Tammi. The turret rooms facing the monorail are 4330, 4430, and 4030 (30 is the last room, no 31's). ;) Rooms 4329 and 4429 are king bed rooms, similar in shape to the "22" deluxe rooms.

planningguy: the 1br suites are on the 5th floor of the main building, with a view towards the wedding pavilion/Polynesian. They have dormer balconies, one off of the bedroom and one off the parlor.

FOR LOVELYHOWELL
thanks for your room review. a couple of "noise" questions, please. being right next door to the lounge when you stayed in the deluxe 4th fl. room, did you hear noise from the folks in the lounge itself or any noises from its kitchen? and did i interpret your post correctly - you could hear noise from the lobby in the a.m. from the fifth floor suite, but not from the fourth floor room?

We were given a complimentary upgrade to this same room. I didn't want to leave it. I thought I might miss having a balcony, but we rearranged the furniture a bit and had beautiful castle views through the windows. Glad you enjoyed it too.

Hi, did this room have two beds? also, i thought there were only suites on the 5th fl. is there more than one room up there? thanks in advance

There are also standard concierge rooms on the 5th floor. There are a lot less rooms on the 5th floor compared to the 3rd and 4th.

2nd floor: Only 9 king deluxe honeymoon rooms in a wing that overlooks the castle.
3rd floor: Standard concierge rooms, deluxe rooms and suites. Rooms are located all around, from the monorail area to the castle wing. Large balcony for club level guests to use. Club level CM's have their desks on this floor.
4th floor: Standard concierge rooms, deluxe rooms and suites. Rooms are located all around, from the monorail area to the castle wing. This is where the lounge is located.
5th floor: Standard concierge rooms, deluxe rooms and suites. There is no castle view wing on the 5th floor. Has a few small seating areas around the interior balcony.

If you go up to post #2 on this thread, room #4021 is Option 1 of the "Honeymoon Concierge" layout.

Tammi, do you know, is there just one standard concierge room on the 5th floor? I was thinking so, it (4025) faces the wedding pavilion, and connects to one of the bedrooms on the 2br suite.

does anyone know what floor/room number the grand suite is? I think I heard it was on the 5th floor but someone mentioned that there are no MK views on the 5th floor.

You may want to check in with this Dis'er, http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=25121430&postcount=215 who recently stayed in the Grand Suite. I'm sure they can fill you in all the amazing :cloud9: details.

Some rooms on the 5th floor do have a view of the castle. The only difference is that the wing that's right above the marina (with direct, head-on castle views) is only available on the 3rd and 4th floor. The roof slope replaces that wing on the 5th floor. Hope that makes sense.

Its own elevator? That's a new one, I haven't heard that!!! I wonder what he means. I would post to him but it looks like that was his one and only post. Maybe I'll send him a PM. THANK YOU!!!! :)

I think the elevator is part of the service elevator. We've used it from the 4the floor and it goes right down to the marina (next to Gasparilla's Grill). Up on the 5th floor, it must be part of the suite. My guess is that it's the rectangle box on the layout with the X drawn through it.

I think this is the layout,

Very cool! Thanks so much Tammi!
