Okay, so we're surprising my daughter with a trip for her 5th birthday, and I just checked the Touring Plans crowd forecast for Dec. 6th through 8th, and it's an 8 out of 10! Why is it so huge? We thought it would be a light crowd that week.

Is it Candlelight Processional? If so, how does that affect the crowds? I know the schedule is different this year, but any guesses?

    Thanks!

Maybe because it was pretty crowded same time last year. I recall one day last year at that same time, the Pirates line went all the way to the Golden Horseshoe Saloon. To me that is crowded. My friend went the week prior and said the crowds were really light.

We went last year for my daughter's 5th birthday. We were there Dec 5th to the 9th (it was a m-f). I did not not fell it was super busy. A lot if what we did were walk on or no more then a 10 minute wait. I'm not sure what you looked at so can't help there and have no clue what's going on. This was just our experience last year.

Remember that Touring Plans is often wrong so you shouldn't automatically assume it will be very crowded.

We will be there this year on those same dates. We go every year that weekend (Thursday-Sunday) and it's usually not too crowded on Thursday & Friday. Saturday is by far the most crowded, so we usually hit Fantasyland at park opening, or EMH/MM if offered and spend the rest of the day watching parades, fireworks & Fantasmic.

Not sure how Carsland & CP are going to change that this year. We'll just have to wait and see. :-)

It's probably because it's on a weekend. We went Dec 5-11 last year, and it was fabulous every day until after 5:00 pm, and on Saturday. The weekdays were REALLY reasonable, we hardly waited for anything. Saturday was pretty busy, but still nowhere near as busy as July!! The snow on Main St was SUPER magical! I wish we could go again the same week this year, but we're going 3 weeks earlier.

I always read here that the first week of December is usually much quieter than the rest of the of the xmas season. I'm glad I didn't sign up for touring plans if they're continually incorrect.

Not saying it will or won't be busy, but as others have noted, Touring Plans' predictions for Disneyland Resort are quite often incorrect. Even if you go to their main website, Disneyland appears to be a footnote (I could only find it by going to the very last part of their menu, "More," and selecting Disneyland at the very end of that dropdown).

Thus far, they have not shown to be accurate for Disneyland. Maybe in a year or so they might get their act together, but right now they don't seem to be good at guessing what will happen when things change at DL....and there sure have been a lot of changes at DL lately.

It's also right before the Wonder's Panama Canal cruise and I am sure a lot of us will be at the Land, LOL... Though I can't imagine that's the only reason. There aren't *that* many people on the cruise!

That might have something to do with why it's more busy. Every site I've ever read about Disney says the first week of December has lighter crowds and therefore is an excellent time to see the Christmas decorations. Apparently everyone is following the advice.

But you're assuming TP's predictions are correct when they've been wrong many times before.

I don't understand why people put so much stock in what TP predicts when they've been wrong so often.

I think it is most likely because it is on the weekend. Thursday will probably be your least crowded day. Do you have any magic mornings to use? I would do that on the weekend to get more rides in...It will be fun and magical no matter what!!

I don't think TP is accurate for DLR, quite the opposite actually. The OP asked why it might be more crowded, I gave my opinion. The times that used to be less crowded aren't anymore, and some of that has to do with people trying to avoid the crowds and all following the same advice, which puts them all at the park at the same time. I'm sorry if my last response was unclear.

Kids out of school one year to experience the "slow" week of the first week of December. Of course it was anything but slow. I'm starting to think disneyland has no more slow times?! Especially now with cars land

Thanks so much for all the help! Glad I just looked at TP's free calendar and didn't buy it!

Sounds like we should be fine. You're all wonderful!

We are planning to be there December 4-5th -Tuesday and Wednesday - I figured a mid-week visit while school is still in session, well before Christmas would be pretty safe. Our kids are 18 months old and 4 years old, so I really don't want to wait in long lines. That's the only reason we're going....we want to see all of the Christmas stuff without the crowds, and our son will be in real school next year, and we will not pull him out of school. I sure hope the predictions are wrong!! I have gone this time of year before, and the parks were pretty much dead.

I was at DLR last year from 12/4 - 12/8. There was a CP on Sunday, 12/4, but I didn't really notice a large increase in crowds until mid-to-late afternoon. However, I did notice quite a few more people buzzing around the hotel lobby than there normally would be.

On Monday, 12/5 it was delightful in both parks. This was probably due in part to some heavy wind that blew through town for a few hours and then disappeared, but DCA was like a ghost town and even Disneyland was not bad. Main Street was not crowded. There was no line at Gibson Girl Ice Cream (shockingly). It was good because I think all the CP people cleared out and left the parks to be downright reasonable. December 6th was a bit more crowded, but not the worst I've seen. December 7th was not bad at all in DCA in the brief time I was there. I'm not sure about 12/8.

This year, however, who knows what will happen? First of all, the Halloween Time season (and the Halloween Parties), by most accounts, has already been quite crowded for the last few weeks. I think that California Adventure's makeover/"re-imagining" is still bringing in the crowds. This will certainly not change by the holidays, which is peak season to begin with.

Then, having the CP on 20 nights in December instead of 2 nights is uncharted territory for DLR. We really have no clue whatsoever how this will impact crowds. We don't have a real DLR-specific template that we can use for a guideline. It's not like they just increased it from 2 nights to 5 nights. They (DLR) are taking a huge leap in having the CP on 20 nights. That is major. This could either end up being utter madness in terms of crowds all through the normally slower days in December, or it could be okay. Maybe the CP won't be as huge of a draw as Disney is hoping.
