Crock Pot Recipes Please

    Hi!!!

    I'm 28 and have never done crock pot cooking and woud like to start!!! People are always telling what a time-saver this is and the food is very yummy!! I have a 10 month old and a four year old so it would be nice to save time on cooking and still have a home cooked meal!!

    Would anyone mind sharing some of their crock pot recipes with me. I would greatly appreciate it!!!!!!!:yay: :yay:

    We live in Arizona so crockpots or the BBQ are my only form of cooking during the summer months....turning on the oven is NOT an option in 110 degree+ weather. Of course, our sidewalks are literally hot enough to fry eggs...they do it on the news every year, lol.

    But I digress...here are a few to get you started:

    Pot Roast: Buy a cheap roast because the extra hours in the crock pot will make it tender and moist no matter how cheap a cut! Put in your roast, some halved potatoes (I prefer the red potatoes, but others like russet will work also), carrots cut into large chunks, mushrooms (leave whole). Take one envelope of Lipton Onion Soup mix and sprinkle it over everything. Now pour in enough red wine to come up about half way on the roast. Cover, cook for 8 hours minimum, preferably 10-12 hours. If you like gravy, then remove all the meat/veggies and add a little corn starch for about 15 minutes and it's gravy (or put the juice into a pan and make gravy on the stove top). I usually put the food in a bowl and put it inside the turned off oven to keep it warm while the gravy is cooking. If you prefer not to use wine (I have a friend who is recovering alcoholic), she uses two cans of cola and some water. Her roast is more sweet tasting, while mine is savory. Both are great! Add a salad and you have a very complete meal.

    Spaghetti: I make homemade sauce and can it during the cooler months so that I have it on hand for the summer crocking....but store bought sauce works well also. Brown 2 pounds hamburger and drain fat....put in crock pot. Add 2 quarts of sauce and some mushrooms. Mix. I add spices when I make the sauce, but when I've used canned I usually add a Tablespoon or two of garlic and some other herbs because I like more kick than canned usually offers. Ten minutes boiling noodles and your dinner is ready. Add a salad and loaf of bread and it's a meal. I have a friend who throws her raw noodles into the sauce in the morning too, but I find that makes for soggy limp noodles.

    BBQ Pork sandwiches: This one requires a little interaction from you throughout the day so it's best for a day when you'll be home. Put the pork in the crockpot, cutting into large chunks if it won't fit. Pour your favorite BBQ on top. I like there to be enough to cover the bottom of the crockpot and whatever went on top of the pork. Turn on high for 10+ hours. Cook for about 2 hours and then every hour after that use two forks to pull apart the meat as it tenderizes. At first this will result in just a little bit coming apart, but after about 5 hours, you'll be pulling off large chunks....pull these apart into little pieces, like you'd put on a sandwich. We serve these on crossiants or good sourdough. Have additional BBQ sauce for those that want it messy!

    There are a TON of receipes out there.....on the web, in library books. A lot of it is experimenting to find the ones your family enjoys most.

    A suggestion on buying a crock pot if you don't have one already.....get larger than you think you'll need (we use a 6qt for a family of 4) because you'll want leftovers......and buy the kind where the crock lifts out. It's 100% easier to clean than the kind where you have to wrestle with the whole machine in the sink and keep the cord out of the water, don't immerse, etc. Ugh, I hated using the crock when it was hard to clean!

    If you have a Sam's club membership, they have one simliar to my newest, about $35.....great thing!

    This is my go-to potroast recipe:

    1 chuck roast, 2 to 3 lbs.
    1 packet onion soup mix
    1 8 oz. carton fresh mushrooms, sliced
    1/2 cup red wine (don't worry about the good stuff, your basic $6 merlot works fine here)

    --Spread the mushrooms on the bottom of the crock pot.
    --Lay the pot roast on top of the mushrooms.
    --Mix the red wine and onion soup mix, then pour over the roast.

    Cook 8 hours on low. Too easy, and too tasty. Goes great with roasted veggies (sliced onions, carrots and celery, mixed with olive oil, salt and pepper and cooked on a cookie sheet in a 400 degree over for 20 minutes). And the leftover wine/juice mixture makes a great gravy if you add a little thickener like xanthan gum or cornstarch.

    Bottom Round steaks or any other cheap meat
    2 cans of diced tomatoes (any flavor or kind)
    Worchestershire sauce (about 8 shakes)LOL

    Cook on low for 6 hours.

    Yummy, cheap version swiss steak

    Potato Soup



    2 pkgs cream cheese

    6 chicken bouillon cubes

    1 pkg shredded hashbrowns

    1 cup ham, cut in small, thin slices

    ½ cup finely chopped onion

    ½ cup bacon bits

    1 tsp garlic powder

    1 tsp dill weed

    ½ tsp white pepper



    Combine bouillon cubes and 6 cups hot water in crock pot. Cube cream cheese and add to bouillon mixture. Cook on low for 1 hour, use a whisk to thoroughly combine cream cheese and bouillon. Add remaining ingredients and stir. Cook on low for 6 hours. Serves 12.



    4 bean Chili



    1 can chili style beans

    1 can black beans

    1 can dark red kidney beans

    1 can light red kidney beans

    2 lbs ground beef, browned

    1 pkg chili seasoning

    1 lrg can diced tomatoes

    1 can rotel

    2-8 oz cans tomato sauce



    Combine in crock pot, cook on low for 6-8 hours.



    Fiesta Chicken Soup



    This makes a double batch:



    2 cans Fiesta Nacho Cheese Soup

    2 cans Cream of Chicken Soup

    1 can Rotel

    1 can chicken (drained)

    2/3 cup milk


    Mix together and set crock pit to low. Serve with a topping of crushed tortilla chips and dollop of sour cream.

    Go to the library and check out some Fix it and Forget It cookbooks. They are crockpot cookbooks, and they are loaded with good recipes.

    I get two very different meals out of this little trick.

    Night one: Take a pork roast, dump a can of enchilida sauce (you pick your spice level preference), a package of pork roast gravy (the dry powder stuff), can of Rotel tomatoes (I like hot) and a quarter cup of dry white wine or cooking sherry, and fresh ground pepper. Cook until it can be easily shredded. This is great on top of rice. Shred all and return what's not used for dinner to crockpot.

    Add brown sugar and mix until it tastes like a nice BBQ pork. You can also sprinkle in a little whole wheat flour if you need to thicken the liquid a bit.

    Night two: reheat for pulled pork sandwiches.

    Im actually cooking with my crockpot right now!

    I have a beef roast in with carrots along the bottom, 1 envelope of Lipton Onion soup mix, some garlic salt, some pepper, and 1 can of Jellied Cranberry Sauce. This stuff turns out so delicious!! Low for 10 hours

    Yummy-- I can smell it cooking now! Only a few hours left :woohoo:

    Here are a couple of my favorites:

    Barbecue turkey legs (almost as good as the ones at MK)

    In a crock pot, place turkey legs (number depends on size of pot and how many you want!). Salt and pepper 'em. Cook on low all day.
    Half hour before serving, drain juices and pour one bottle of barbecue sauce over legs. Allow to cook 1/2 hour more.
    Enjoy!

    Italian Beef

    Place beef roast (cheap cuts work fine) in crock pot. In small saucepan, combine one envelope Good Seasons Italian dressing (dry), 1 tsp. each of salt, oregano, basil, season salt, parsley, garlic powder, onion powder. Add 1/2 tsp. of pepper and 2 bay leaves. Pour in 1 or 2 cups water and bring to boil. Pour over roast and allow to cook on low all day. (I sometimes add pepperocini for an added kick. Crushed red pepper works well, too.)
    Just before serving, remove bay leaves and shred meat with two forks.

    Party Chicken:
    Line the bottom of the crock pot with dried beef chips.
    Layer skinless chicken breasts on top.
    Put another layer of dried beef on top.
    Pour cream of chicken soup on top and cook on low all day.

    Terryaki pork loin:
    Put the loin in the pot.
    Pour 2 cans pineapple juice and one bottle low sodium soy sauce over the loin.
    Cook on low all day. Serve over rice - Yummy!
    This one works with chicken wings for parties too!

    No, they are very thin strips of dried beef. In the grocery store, they are generally in one of two places -either with the salad stuff by the bacon bits or in the canned meat(SPAM) area. They come in a glass jar and are heavily salted, so you don't need any other seasoning when you use them.

    Pork Chili

    1 pork tenderloin (2 lbs) trim fat, if necessary
    1 15 oz. can black beans, drained
    1 jar salsa

    Directions:
    Place tenderloin in the crockpot

    Dump the beans and salsa on top.
    Cook on high for 6 - 8 hours.

    When it is done, stir to break apart the pork and serve.

    (For you WW fans, this is about 6 servings/6 points)

    Just finished washing and putting mine away from dinner tonight!

    EASY Beef Stroganoff (sure I spelled that wrong :rotfl2: )

    about 4 lbs inside round steak cut into bite size pieces.

    Throw into a baggie with about 1/3 (or so to coat) cup of flour (salt & pepper)

    Shake and toss the whole stuff into pot.

    about 2 cups of warm water to which you have added either 2 bullion cubes or liquid etc and around 1/4 cup cooking sherry -- find in grocery store next to dressings etc.

    Mix it all together and cook on low for 7 - 9 hours.

    Well you are cooking up some egg noodles to serve this stuff over, mix in 2 cups of sour cream.

    Once the noodles are cooked the sour cream will be warmed thru --- gosh we love this stuff!
