Concerned about the walk from PPH

I'm slightly concerned about the length of the walk from PPH. I've heard there is a short cut through GCH, true? If so, how do you get there?

Also, I think we want to take our cheap, crappy umbrella stroller for the walk. Is there a place I can leave it all day once we get into the park? We prefer the DL rentals instead.

to the first question....if you go outside the main doors of the PP, the GC is right across the street...once you go in you make an immediate left at the first opening and just follow that around where the signs are that say DD or else you can go to the DCA entrance....

as to the second question, there is no way irregardless of how cheap or expensive something is, I would leave anything all day sitting anywhere in the park or anywhere else for that matter so for that situation why dont you just take the monorail into the park...you just have to go outside and through DLH and then over to the monorail..its really not that long of a walk and then you could send one person the other way to get the stroller and meet you:goodvibes

The monorail starts to run when the park opens, if it's a MM day I think it starts at the time of MM and not earlier. As to the stroller question, I've seen many strollers sitting at the park rental spot, people use their cheapo strollers to get to the park and then switch them for the DL strollers all the time. I think you would probably be OK doing that.....

And yes, the shortcut is easy, just exit the PPH thru the front and cross the street to the GCH, walk thru the lobby, to the left and follow the signs to DTD, or go to the DCA entrance, just as the PP described. :)

Thanks pixiewings! That is exactly what I want to do! If the stroller ended up missing it would be the end of the world, it was a freebee we got like 6 years ago now.

Using the shortcut, would you say it is closer or farther than the walk to and from the HOJO?

It's a little shorter - I used gmap-pedometer.com to measure distance from the entrance to each hotel to the Esplanade - it's .48 from the PP, and .52 from the HoJo. But if you're in one of the HoJo rooms that's further out it will be a bit longer.

I've used mapmyrun, trying to follow, as best as I could, the basic route through GCH, and got .44 mile.

I don't think I've mapped the "disney-side walk" from hojo, but Tropicana is .26 if I recall correctly.

We took the monorail in one morning whlie staying at DLH, for MM, and missed the first monorail...then Nemo's line was already really long, and the walk to FL was obnoxious when you knew that every moment more and more people were streaming in from the castle...I don't know about how tomorrowland would be, but unless you really want to be in TL or on Nemo (and remember, you have to exit the line (the exit changed twice during our stay in May...one time we went out towards the stroller parking, another time it went along the lagoon and plopped us out right near the line entrance) then find the end of Nemo's line), I wouldn't take the monorail in... Same going back in...unless you're already in TL, or you're leaving at the time of a parade and all the traffic it creates...I'd just walk on out.

Someone here posts that if you're going to rent a stroller in the parks you can have them put your stroller away for you, then pick it up later...

We leave our stroller all over the park every trip. Our last trip the wheels were giving out. So we parked it by Nemo and got the DL rental for free (at the time). We past our old reliable about 8 times and even took a picture of it looking sad. It was still there when we came to get it around 10:00 at night

For us the walk feels exactly the same. I haven't mapped like Molly but it feels the same. It's a nice walk from PPH really, I love walking thru the GCH if I can't stay there. :)

I think a much bigger deal is made out of the walk from PPH to the gates of the parks than is necessary or even fair. At first, if you don't know the short cut and end up following the signs on the PPH property to DL, walking the long way, it can seem endless. I know that before we started taking the short cut through the GCH, my friend would end the evening much earlier and begin heading back to the PPH because she thought it was going to take soooo long to get there following the designated route with the signs, and she was daunted by the whole endeavor. And if we went back for a mid-day rest, she was hard-pressed to be convinced to go back out for evening fun in the parks. Once we learned about the short cut from Molly and others on the DIS, we never went the 'other' way again.

For some reason, PPH seems like it is on its own little island and off the beaten path because it is on the other side of the street. But that's all it is - just right across the street (Disneyland Drive, to be exact) from the GCH. It may not save too many footsteps, but, for some reason, the things you see along the way on the short cut walk make it seem much faster. You get the nice glimpse of what's happening in the GCH, you get in the Disney spirit and mood by strolling through DTD and smelling the kettle corn, etc.

At the end of the day, after all the miles of walking that is done in DLR, the jaunt across the street to the PPH through the GCH lobby is not bad at all. And I am a person with bad pain in my whole lower half from back/disc problems and also plantar fasciitis (which flared up at DLR in 12/07), so sometimes walking hurts a lot, but I can still manage it all right. My friend, who has her own series of painful maladies to contend with, has gotten to not mind the PPH walk, and when I apologized for staying at the PPH and making her walk on the last trip, she said, "I like the Paradise Pier." So that was my seal of approval - a thumbs up from a person who used to start heading back for the night at 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. because she thought it would take her an hour to get to the PPH room from DL!!

Take the GCH shortcut and you'll be fine. We have stayed at both HoJo and at PPH and I would say the walk (using shortcut) is about the same. HOWEVER - the walk from PPH is far more enjoyable. I really dislike walking along Harbor; staying at PPH you cross the street right in front of PPH to walk into GCH and then never have see, smell or hear another car! It's a very pleasant walk.

We really, really, loved the PPH and will stay there again when I can get a good deal (hard to beat the HoJo rate!@!)

The first question I have no answer for as for the second one I will tell you what we did.

We took our cheap umbrella stroller and checked it in when we got our Disney stroller. It's like coat check only it's for strollers. They give you a claim ticket and you just pick it up when you are ready for it at the end of the day. So when we rented ours we just asked them to keep ours and it was no big deal. I didn't care if I lost mine but I really did want it back for the walk to the hotel.

Awesome! We are going to do this!
