Ciao Mickey, This is NOT Disney. The real Europe visited...8/16 - Day 9.11 & 9.12

Gorgeous pictures of the ruins.

So sad about the kids being trained to pickpocket. I assume you're referring to the gypsy kids? We saw a few of them in action as far back as 1990 and they are real quick. I managed to stop a group of them pickpocketing a solo tourist when she bent down to pick something up. She had her purse half hanging out of a pocket and the kids were so quick! I banged on her backpack to stop them and they scattered as quickly as they appeared!

Scott, I have not been on the DIS in a long time and was WAY behind, so no individual comments, but just wanted to let you know that I just LOVE all your photos and since we had to cancel our summer plans for the US we have been inspired by your TR to visit Florence on our Italy vacation this summer. Thanks for all the great pics!!!

All caught up on your amazing pics. I think I commented earlier on the ruins, but I love the last set of pictures you added - even if you can't remember their descriptions. :rotfl2:

That sun picture is just gorgeous! And Vinny sitting in the hot sun - where was the shade?

it is sad. I guess they are. They didn't say, only the word "kids" was mentioned.

Glad you're back.
Thank you. Too bad you had to cancel but I think I would rather Florence. LOL. Can't wait to hear about your trip.

Again I am sorry about the lack of words, I really don’t remember what most of these buildings are. RUINS! LOL.

Up next,

More pics. LOL

I was going to ask, until I saw your last words, what is this place, but obviously you don't know!

Crazy how they have so many ruins right there in the city!

It looks like the ruins at Palatine Hill to me.

We caught the bus service out to the catacombs and it went via the Old Apia Way. As they used to say.....all road lead to Rome. The Apia Way was one such road. The number of ruins just lying by the roadside was mind boggling. We did ask and someone said that they had that many ruins along the Old Apia Way that there was no where to store it all. Crazy, indeed!

I am caught up again. Amazing how far behind you can get when you ignore things for a bit.

No individual comments but I loved all the statues, ruins and artwork. I was a Medieval Studies major with some Renaissance thrown in so it brought back many memories of my classes. One day I may get there.

I wasn't as far back as I thought I was. Phew!

I'm glad I got to see you at Kona (and meet Vinny), but sorry we didn't get a picture or a proper hug since you were ill.

More beautiful pictures of the Coliseum, and the ruins. So very sad that kids are trained how to pickpocket.

It is Palantine Hill. What might interest everyone, is that at least part was the primary residence of Caesar Augustus(Octavian, great-nephew of Julius Caesar) during his reign. Loving the photos, by the way...

It's all so amazing. What a wonderful opportunity to get to see all of it!
Sorry you got sick on your vacation. I did once many years ago and it was awful. Knock on wood I stay healthy from now on on future trips!

More ruins, bring it on, these pictures are gorgeous Scott!!
Okay I will. LOL. Thank you.
