Chunkymonkey and Chubbyhubby Feed the Force!! A May 2015 TR - Update 10/29 Trip Epilogue!

Finished reading about your Rebel Hangar lunch, break and spectacular ending at DHS.

I love the set up for the Rebel Hangar meal! Great character interactions and interesting food selections. My DH and I love to share when we are eating, so this would be right up our alley. And with my two (teenage) boys, I think this is the best character lineup for them.

All of your character pictures came out great! I love the video of your trade with the Jawa. Rip off!

Congratulations on your collection of very cool glow cubes!

:darth: :chewy:

I love the caution cone lamp in your Cars suite. The theming at AoA is simply amazing! So fun!

What a great night you had back at DHS!

Toy Story Mania and 4 times on RNR!!! :worship:

Yay for an uncrowded viewing of F! I love the picture with the moat on fire!

And finally, that is a VERY cool shirt. Mickey and Maui together? Yes, please! Great colors too!

:goodvibes:

I have read about your EPCOT morning and lunch.

I have noticed that Spaceship Earth is a lot more crowded now than it has been in the past and I think you are correct that it is because of FP+. I think the problem is compounded in the morning as guests coming in first thing decide to check out the first attraction they see. At least the ones who are not rushing to Soarin' or Test Track.

Glad you didn't have much of a wait for Soarin' and that you got the seating you wanted.

I haven't had breakfast at Sunshine Seasons, but it always looks super-good. That IS a lot of fruit!

I love, love, love Living with the Land, but sadly I haven't been on it in a few years for a variety of reasons.

Great pictures from the character spot and I adore CS's pictures with Chip and Dale.

Funny about a line at Figment.

I'm sure TT was fun as always. Too bad your sleepy picture was in shadow. :(

M:S green for me, too!

We haven't really done the games at the end of the queue or in the Innoventions buildings. With the boys, it is all rides-all the time.

I haven't seen that snow scene on Space Ship Earth. Cute.

Thanks for the pictures of your udon at Japanese CS place and especially the tip about the shrimp tempura. My eldest, the fussier eater, has recently really gotten into udon and LOVES shrimp tempura, so that would be perfect for him.

So I have to admit I was a little disappointed you changed your ADR from La Hacienda- that is our new, very favorite EPCOT restaurant. We have never eaten at Garden Grill, but I know it is a tradition for a lot of people.

Day 8 Part 1: Our last day begins with...yawns?

(I hope my pictures are showing up for those of you who had issues before!)

The 24 hour Magic Kingdom day was announced just a few months before our trip. We had already booked everything, including airfare, so we couldn't really change our plans without having to pay significantly more money so we decided not to extend our trip (especially since it was Memorial Day Weekend too). But since we were here anyways, we'd take advantage of all that we could before we had to depart on our 8pm flight.

We had spent the previous night packing...so we were up pretty late, and after a long day at Epcot and watching Illuminations, we were pretty darn tired.
We got ready for the day, checked for any last minute things, gathered our suitcases, and headed out yawning at 6:30am. No we did not make it to the parks by 6am - we were just too tired. I thought a 7am start would be fine. *yawn* :coffee:

We checked our bags through, got our boarding passes, and dropped our carry-on stuff with bell services. In all, it didn't take that long, because in actuality there was no one around! :thumbsup2
AoA was pretty empty that early...guess everyone who wanted to go to MK at 6am already left and everyone else probably did not bother to wake up that early.

We caught a bus to MK that was relatively empty too!

We do look a bit bleary-eyed and tired. I was not sure how much of the day I'll make it through! Think we may have gotten 5 hours of sleep, which is usually fine with me, but considering we have had such an active vacation for a week already, and all I actually needed was more sleep, we were running low on energy! Luckily I got a few sips of coffee from DH's refillable mug and off we went to the start our day at the 24 Hour Coolest Summer Ever Kickoff Event!

When we reached MK we definitely got some of our energy back! Seeing the castle again for the last time on this trip was bittersweet. Our last day at WDW! I couldn't believe it!

So today was one of the few days at MK where Disney encourages people to wear costumes. I had grand plans to wear our pirate outfits from the cruise, but in all honesty, the thought of traipsing around MK in 95 degree weather in a white silk dress, head scarf, and vinyl belt did not appeal to me. pirate:

I opted for a more relaxing outfit. My sister lent me her ears, which matched my dress perfectly! CS was wearing her super cute Minnie dress again and DH, well he didn't want to be the only pirate out of all of us so he just wore a T-shirt and shorts as he does every day! So yeah, we did fail at the costumes, but I was really just too tired and too hot to wear anything complicated that day.

Even though the bus was not crowded, MK was getting there. We knew we were in for one of the most insanely crowded and scorching hot days we had ever experienced. Why can't it actually be cool on Coolest Summer Ever Kickoff!! :rotfl:

Olaf, why can't we all have our own personal flurries?!?

Our FP+ today were for 7DMT, BTMRR, and to meet Anna and Elsa again. Not sure why we had the 2nd Anna and Elsa FP+ since we already met them a previous day but I figured it would be fun to get our picture again and no one seemed to request anything else.

First though was a meeting with a certain fairy...we walked by and her line was only 10 minutes. Done!

When DH was walking through the line, I said stop!! His head was the perfect height to be the center of the flower. So funny.

We hadn't done Jungle Cruise yet so we went on standby. Lines were about 15 minutes at 7:15am.

Splash Mountan....er no, did not want to risk getting wet so early, and I tend to avoid water rides anyways.

Wow, that was a lot and before 8:30am too! Granted, the park was getting crowded but it was mainly the front of the park as people were filing in and around the castle. As you ventured into the different lands, it wasn't that bad! The lines during the early hours of the morning were pretty good. There were also areas of the park which were almost empty!

We split up at this point so CS could get her picture with Alice and we went on Dumbo with no wait!

DH and CS told me to get a pic with Minnie by myself since I matched her so well, LOL!

Now, it was just about 9:30am. We noticed in the last hour that the park had gotten significantly more crowded. It was also starting to get really really hot at this point. But no worries, we were headed to Be Our Guest for some much needed breakfast!

Stay tuned...

I enjoyed your Garden Grill review :-). I always thought it looked like fun!
Sad to see this TR is coming to an end, but at least you have another coming up in like 5 months!!
I still can't see your photos in the GG chapter either, and I was having the same thing Billie mentioned, for a day my avatar reverted back to the first one I ever used......weird!
Can't wait to read what happened on the 24 hour day! I'd love to try it someday but I doubt I could make it the whole 24 hours!

GG is really quite fun! In actuality, the rotating part is the least exciting aspect. Most of the ride is dark and the rotation is very slow. It's the characters that really make it special. Oh and the food too!

I know...I was trying to prolong this TR but at least I have the PTR to keep me busy for the next few months. The more I prolong the end of this TR the more likely I'll forget certain details anyways!

Oh no, I hope you do get to see the photos!

The 24 hour day was fun but mainly for the first 2-3 hours. Then it got super crowded quickly.

Thanks for the rundown of the berkshires. It looks like a great time and some amazing food was had.

It was! Definitely something we look forward to every summer.

Poor sis. How ever did she escape the deadly bear hug ; )

She should be a pro by now...LOL

This looks delicious and how cool to eat food from the land while revolving over the land.

It was great. The rotating part is actually not that exciting because the restaurant rotates during the first part where the ride is dark so you don't actually get to see much. But the concept is neat.

Do they have a carbs anonymous group, because I so could stand a little bit of recovery.

Hi I'm Su-Lynn and I'm a lifetime carb addict. :cloud9:

Great picture and love, love, love overall Mickey.

Thanks! The character interaction there is pretty nice. I feel like the booths/tables are more private than other character meals which make it a bit more personable.

This looks so good, though I'm with ya on the red pepper sauce.

Yeah, I don't like them and think it overwhelms the taste when it's added to any sauce or dish. The fish was otherwise quite good.

Wow that is a lot of food. Gonna have to check it out one of these days

It's a good sampling of comfort food! Mmmmm.

Love this picture, especially with space ship earth in the distance. Gorgeous!

Thanks! I wish I was there right now!

I can finally see your pics again! Your mini TR at the concert shed looked awesome!

Yay!! So glad the issue is fixed for you. Hope it is the same for everyone else.

Thanks! We had a great time in the Berkshires!

It was one of the most fun meals I've ever had! I think part of it was that it was very new and so there weren't many reviews of it when we went, so we didn't' know what to expect. I think with WDW you tend to research the heck out of everything (at least I do) so you set your expectations at a certain level. This one surprised us a lot and I'm thinking maybe I don't have to read every dining review or TR about a new place at WDW and just be surprised!

All of your character pictures came out great! I love the video of your trade with the Jawa. Rip off!

I know!! I feel sooo ripped off! Next time I'm gonna get them back! Maybe a piece of tin foil or a candy wrapper....

Congratulations on your collection of very cool glow cubes!

So excited for them! They are safely stored in my Cinderella Carriage Popcorn Bucket.

I love the caution cone lamp in your Cars suite. The theming at AoA is simply amazing! So fun!

It has great theming! I loved those lamps too!

What a great night you had back at DHS!

Toy Story Mania and 4 times on RNR!!! :worship:

Super fun! And made up for the super crowded Star Wars weekends where we barely went on any rides!

Yay for an uncrowded viewing of F! I love the picture with the moat on fire!

Thanks!! So fun!

And finally, that is a VERY cool shirt. Mickey and Maui together? Yes, please! Great colors too!

:goodvibes:

I know...perfect shirt or what!?!

Yeah exactly. FP+ tends to redistribute the lines. I guess this was what they were trying to achieve with this, but TT and Soarin' are still ridiculously long at times but maybe during non-peak season it may make a larger difference.

I haven't had breakfast at Sunshine Seasons, but it always looks super-good. That IS a lot of fruit!

It's our favorite place for breakfast at Epcot!

I love, love, love Living with the Land, but sadly I haven't been on it in a few years for a variety of reasons.

Oh...lemme guess, the boys don't find greenhouses and agriculture it that fascinating? :rotfl:

Great pictures from the character spot and I adore CS's pictures with Chip and Dale.

I know, they crack me up. It was like she met up with some long lost friends and were having a moment.

Funny about a line at Figment.

I know, right??

I'm sure TT was fun as always. Too bad your sleepy picture was in shadow. :(

Yeah not my best TT picture. I always forget where the new location of the camera is.

M:S green for me, too!

Orange makes me

We haven't really done the games at the end of the queue or in the Innoventions buildings. With the boys, it is all rides-all the time.

I can see that. They are pretty fun though. I think they would enjoy some stuff.

I haven't seen that snow scene on Space Ship Earth. Cute.

Yeah me neither. I'm gonna see if I can get a new scenario next time too!

Thanks for the pictures of your udon at Japanese CS place and especially the tip about the shrimp tempura. My eldest, the fussier eater, has recently really gotten into udon and LOVES shrimp tempura, so that would be perfect for him.

No problem! I think he'll enjoy it much better that way!!

So I have to admit I was a little disappointed you changed your ADR from La Hacienda- that is our new, very favorite EPCOT restaurant. We have never eaten at Garden Grill, but I know it is a tradition for a lot of people.

:goodvibes:

LOL I knew you would be disappointed because you mentioned how much you loved it! But I guess it's only a chance to try it on a subsequent trip. I may have to wait until another trip than Feb 2016 because CS wanted to try it too and I promised we'd go together!

Loved reading about your Berkshires trip. That's just a gorgeous summer spot.

It sounds like MK was super crowded and super hot during the 24-hour event. If all the trip reports are any indication. LOL.

Oh my gosh I love that costume on Minnie! Well, considering it was the 24 hr event, the crowds look unbelieveably manageable! I'm assuming it didn't stay that way all day ;-)

Oh...lemme guess, the boys don't find greenhouses and agriculture it that fascinating? :rotfl:

Surprisingly, no! I think this will come up in the next update or two. The boys were willing to ride. But when we had finished eating dinner at Sunshine Seasons (maybe around 8:30 pm) we went over and although CMs were there, the ride was closed for the night.

:headache:

Tell me about it on the 24-hour day... I had a feeling they might do it again this year around the same time, but I booked my dates the way I did anyway. We arrived just hours after the 24-hour day was finished. As we had plenty of Disney time in store, I was okay with it. :-)

Even though you weren't "costumed" you all looked very nice!

I'm amazed the crowds were as low as they were! You got a lot accomplished in the first few hours - certainly shorter lines than I saw during my trip!

I can't wait to see what you thought about the Be Our Guest breakfast!

We hardly ever go on this ride! It was really nice to be able to fly above Adventureland!
I really like the magic carpets, even though it's not very long, I personally think its a lot of fun!

But no worries, we were headed to Be Our Guest for some much needed breakfast!
Excited to hear about breakfast at BoG! I've been thinking about trying to fit it into our schedule for next May...

It is!! I really look forward to our trips there each summer.

It sounds like MK was super crowded and super hot during the 24-hour event. If all the trip reports are any indication. LOL.

It wasn't really any different for us but you'll see we tried to make the best of a crowded day.

Minnie's outfit is adorable. All the characters under the big top have unique circus-y outfits!
The crowds in the morning...they were great because there were barely any that early. After breakfast though, it was a different story.

Oh no!! Guess the plants needed their beauty rest too.

Me too...by the end of the trip, we were glad we did not partake in the full 24 hour day. It would have just been too much and we'd arrive back home from vacation feeling like we needed ANOTHER vacation LOL.

Even though you weren't "costumed" you all looked very nice!

Thanks! We tried as best as we could, LOL.

I'm amazed the crowds were as low as they were! You got a lot accomplished in the first few hours - certainly shorter lines than I saw during my trip!

It was only in the early morning...I guess people felt like they had all day to do MK so no one bothered with the early morning hours.

I can't wait to see what you thought about the Be Our Guest breakfast!

Stay tuned!

I really like the magic carpets, even though it's not very long, I personally think its a lot of fun!

It is! I should try and make an effort to go on it more often, but like the Astro Orbiter...the line is always so sloooow.

Excited to hear about breakfast at BoG! I've been thinking about trying to fit it into our schedule for next May...

Stay tuned for the post! But in short: we liked it and it's a great quick service breakfast option!

The pictures are wonderful that shows the trip was full of enjoyment and thrilling!!!!

Thank you!! Welcome!!

Just caught up with your TR. Sound like an amazing trip. Now, I regret not booking my trip around Star Wars weekend. I am going to WDW beginning of March. Arg, so mad at myself. Thank goodness my boys did not read this TR or they would have killed me for missing it. Too late, maybe in two years time. The rebel hanger lunch looked really cool too. I really want to try Yachtsman Steakhouse. Your meal looked so good. I will try to schedule it into my next trip. Thanks for sharing!:wave2:

Hi Alexandra! :welcome: Thanks for reading!

It was an amazing trip! I couldn't wait to write about it. It was our first Star Wars weekends and I've wanted to go for years and finally took the plunge. The kicker was seeing those character meals and fireworks show being offered. I think they really made the experience. If they didn't have the character meals and I'd have to wait on the really long lines for character pictures, I probably would not be so inclined to return. I enjoy WDW but not too much when it's so crowded, but I'm glad I went this time. Hope you do get to experience Star Wars Weekends one day! It'll be a while before the Star Wars lands are built so it would be wise of them to continue having Star Wars Weekends every year.

Yachtsman was wonderful. I'm totally going to go on our next trip! I can't resist a good steak, it was probably the best steak I've had a WDW (yes it beats out Le Cellier). :)

I have never been to Star Wars weekend because of my boys' ages (now 5 and 8 y.o.) Like you said, I don't think they would have the patience for waiting in long lines all day no matter who is at the end but after reading about those character meals, and seeing how you dealt with the crowds, it looks like its totally doable. Plus they are older now and can totally see doing this on our future trips. I am a total Star Wars fan. Grew up watching those movies and its fun to see the next generation have the opportunity to share in the Star Wars craze! Can't wait for the new Star Wars movie and Star Wars Land. :hyper:

You guys are so cute. Love your upbeat style of writing. Keep up the good work:thumbsup2

Love the start of your 24 hour day! I have to say, you all are braver than I am - I can't imagine being in Disney when it gets so crowded :P But at least you all looked adorable, and I'm sure it was a blast!

Amazing trip report! Was fun reading along with your adventure. You have some fantastic pictures too. How cool is the SWW?? I was showing DH (who I think is a closet Disney fan but won't admit it - but is a SW fan) he kept asking if that is happening when we are going then suggesting we go when it's on - think he's excited lol!

Yeah I'd definitely book the character meals so that you can meet most of the characters without waiting in line. The dessert party was also really fun if your boys are into fireworks and sweets :)
Star Wars has definitely been a part of my life growing up and throughout college. Sort of let the interest slide for a bit for a few years after that but am getting super excited again about the new movie, lands, and spin offs for years to come!

You guys are so cute. Love your upbeat style of writing. Keep up the good work:thumbsup2

Thank you!! :thanks:

Thanks! Yes, I was honestly not looking forward to the heat and the crowds. But since we were there...we might as well make the best of it!

Thank you!! SWW was really fun! I think we enjoyed it because we had the character meals and the dessert party. If we didn't and we'd be stuck on line for hours meeting characters...I'd probably be annoyed half the time. LOL.
I think with good planning you both will have a blast!

Wow... That was a very productive morning! Love the Minnie ears with the pink dress. You and your sister have the cutest park outfits :thumbsup2 Can't wait to see how breakfast went at Be Our Guest. Our family dined there for lunch for the first time this past June and we LOVED it! We were able to score a table in the West Wing, and our DS was very much taken-in by the magic of the Beast's castle...so that made the experience even sweeter.

I CAN FINALLY SEE YOUR PICTURES!!!! Lots of comments incoming!!!!

I think complimentary infused waters should be the norm at every WDW restaurant!
How have I never noticed this before? I love this! :cutie:

Dale was the BEST at GG when I went last year! He gave the warmest hugs, and kept pointing at my facepaint and making a big deal about it.

oon our first dishes began to arrive...the yummy hydroponically grown salad! I must admit I like this salad much better than Ohana's. Although it wasn't quite as good as the one we had a Rebel Hangar.

I was surprising disappointed by this salad. I mean, I was really there for the meats and sides anyhow, but after reading so many good reviews of this salad, I was underwhelmed! :confused3

And probably my favorite part of GG...the insanely fluffy and warm dinner rolls!

I have a confession...I love carbs.
Mmmm. I'm a protein and cards girl. I loooove these! :lovestruc

I told him I liked his crops. :rose::rose::rose:
You like big crops and you cannot lie? :bitelip:

MEAT MEAT MEAT. Wait... Why is there no gravy on your turkey and stuffing? :confused3

hough I liked the mahi mahi, I didn't really like the sauce on it so I scraped most of it off (I am not a huge fan of red bell peppers which is what it tasted like).
I absolute HATE bell peppers of any color, I don't discriminate. I knew what to expect going into it, so I ordered my fish without the red stuff. I'm jealous, though! Mine was tilapia. I loooove mahi mahi! :lovestruc

Everything was really tasty and delicious. It was seasoned well and all the meats/fish were cooked just right. Everything was served at the right temperature too...hot and fresh!
Yes, I had the same wonderful experience last year! ::yes::

Selfies with characters! Why have I never thought of this before? These are sooooo cuuuuuute!!! :goodvibes

Bahahaha! I love this one so hard! I'm telling you, Dale is AWESOME!!! :thumbsup2

inally, it was time for dessert! We were stuffed but we thought the blueberry cobbler was quite good. Definitely needed ice cream instead of the whipped cream it is served with, but we were so full we all ate just a few bites of it anyways.

I said almost the exact thing about this dessert... Cobbler NEEDS ice cream! The whipped cream is a sad substitute! :sad2:

This is a beautiful shot!!!

Here's some video I took:
Now dangit Su-Lynn, you can't be making me sit here at work watching these and crying at my desk!

We had a long day, we didn't take any breaks at all, but we still went shopping in Mousegears, because, well, it's Mousegears!
I HEART that store!
Yaaaaaasssss! Love love love Mousegears!!! :thumbsup2

We caught a bus to MK that was relatively empty too!
I so love me an empty bus. So peaceful! :-)

You and your sister both look soooo cute! And I love that pink dress, and the ears really are just perfect with it! :cutie:

She's so cute. I always feel gargantuan next to her...
How do you think I feel? :rotfl:

Crocodile faces!!! Chomp chomp!

Here's a pic of me and DH on the carpets. We hardly ever go on this ride! It was really nice to be able to fly above Adventureland!

It looks like your man is staring right down your dress... and happy about it. :rotfl:

DH and CS told me to get a pic with Minnie by myself since I matched her so well, LOL!
