Can anyone tell me the ins and outs of switching resorts? We currently have 3 nights booked in a 2 bedroom BCV but are hoping to change to 3 nights in a MK resort. My 7 month window opens today. Do i need to cancel my BCV reservation or is there a way to modify? I'm hoping to do it online so that I don't have to wait until 9 am. Thanks!

If you have enough points you can book the new reservation and then cancel the one you don't want. If you need those points that are in your current reservation to be able to book, then you will need to cancel it and book the new one. Some people have reported that Member Services can hold reservations, but it is not reported consistently and it would be a YMMV situation.

If you need the points in the first reservation, i.e., you would otherwise have to borrow points to make the new reservation without cancelling the first, then you do need to cancel the first reservation before completing the second on line. To cancel the first, you need to go to portion of the site that lists your existing reservations. Particularly during very high demand times, which includes the time you are trying to get near Columbus Day weekend, you can face a serious risk doing the change on line because between the time you cancel your first reservation and then try to lock-in the second reservation, you can lose both reservations to someone else and end up with nothing. To avoid that risk you can either wait to call at 9 or follow a procedure that supersnoop, a member of these boards, first published. That procedure requires that you would need to borrow points to make the new reservation if you did not cancel the first, and it goes like this:

1. You should use two computers, such as a desktop and an iPad. This may work with one computer using two different browsers but I have not seen confirmation of that yet.

2. On one computer, go to your existing reservation and get to the page where it can be canceled. Do not cancel yet.

3. On the second computer, start making your new reservation, and if it is available get to the first lock-in page where it says you have 20 minutes to complete the reservation and provides your contract or contracts where you are supposed to choose points. Those will show only your unused points when you get there.

4. Choose the contract or contracts you will use for the new reservation. The Borrow icon should come to life near the bottom of the page. Click on that borrow points icon. A window will come up that allows you to borrow or "cancel" the window. Now do nothing.

5. Go back to the other computer and cancel your prior reservation. Do nothing other than complete the cancellation process.

6. Now go back to the computer where you are making your new reservation. Hit "cancel" in that borrow window. It will disappear and your contract points will refresh and all of the points from the prior reservation will appear as available in your contract and then you can continue on with the new reservation.

Each reservation is separate, you have to cancel and book new. Normal MS advisors do not have the ability to hold inventory, senior CM's, managers, and team line CM's do.

Does anyone know if this will work if I don't have enough point to borrow for the new reservation? I have already borrowed a portion of our 2016 points to book the original reservation. We are currently booked at BCV in a 2 BR for two separate reservations 10/24 - 10/27, and 10/27 - 10/30. I would like to change the first to a MK Resort 2 BR, either BLT or VWL, but since this reservation is on a weekend during F&W I am very worried I will end up losing it if I have to cancel first.

Why not just call MS and have them change the resort? Then the reservation number will stay the same. What am I missing?

This thread is basically for people who want to change resorts at exactly 7 months online right at 8 am (when avail is the best)-they may want to change to a room that may not still be avail at 9 am when MS opens. The instructions given are for how to lock in new room without losing previously booked room (so that they don't wind up losing both to other members also booking right at 8).

It worked for me too yesterday! We have a standard view studio for the week before Thanksgiving week. We can't wait.

I'm hoping to do this when my 7 month window opens in June!
