Castaway Cay 5K First Timer Support Thread

Ran 5K on Friday, Nov. 9 and got bib and our Mickey Medals! Was a very large group but cast members were at the end with our medals. No certificates in staterooms tho. 5K t-shirts were available near start line in all sizes b4 race. Didn't look to see what was still available after.

Had a great time!

Good luck to everyone!

That is SO weird that newjerseymomma ran it the day after mkymse9 and there were no medals!! I hope there are medals when I do this at the end of the month.

I know tho is odd but what ships were you on. I've been hearing that the Fantasy has the medals and the Dream doesn't right now

DH & DS ran the 5k on 11/6. We were on the Dream. They both got certificates at the finish line. No medals were handed out. I waited at the finish line for the entire race because DS had been training and really wanted to do well. He was the second person to finish. Nobody including the boy who came in first got a medal. DH did buy himself a beer to celebrate finishing though! I think he enjoyed it more than getting a medal. :)

I was on the Fantasy on Nov. 9 and castmembers were at the finish line handing out the medals. We finished at about 45 minutes (I think) and there were many participants behind us. I don't know if the CMs stayed till every person crossed the finish line.

My husband and I plan on doing it on the Fantasy April 6 cruise! Does anyone know what time it is begins? We have two boys, one nearly 3 years old and one 7 who will need to go to the children's centers. Wondering if they are open if it is an early start??

We were told to meet in the Tube before 9:30am to sign up and get our bibs. Took a long time to register everyone (very large group) so we weren't escorted off ship till around 9:50 or so. Then the long walk to the start line (by the bike rentals), explanation of the route and then we were finally given the signal to go. It was probably 10:15 or later by that time. Didn't really check.

So, it really depends on when the ship docks, how many people to sign up and if they get to Tube on time! That's why we started so late.

The race was fun altho a little warm because of the late start. Water stations along the way.

We had a really good time. Would definitely do it again!

Not sure about kids club as we didn't need to use them. We had other family on the beach with our kids and stuff we needed after race.

I'll be partaking on our 12/6 Dream cruise.

I really hope there is a medal. I'm all about the bling. 2012 is the year of Disney medals for me. Donald, Mickey, Goofy, the DL 1/2 and the Coast to Coast.

This could be my Coast to Coast to Coast challenge!

Congratulations on all your bling! I earned the Donald this year and now I have my CC5K Mickey. Don't get too excited about the bling tho, it's a plastic mickey head. But it's great! :)

I'm so excited to run this in February. I just started training in Sept (never ran before) and I'm doing a 12 minute mile now on hills, so I know I can easily finish it before 45 mins are up. Hoping to be down to at least a 10 min mile by Feb, but I'm not sure how ill do once the weather gets super cold here. Either way, I can't WAIT!

The only thing that might thwart my efforts is parasailing. DH and I both really want to go. Hoping we can get a later time, possibly around 1PM, so I can do both. It's our first cruise so we can't book excursions yet! Dec 1 *fingers crossed*

Question for runners & those with more fitness experience than me :)

I have never been a runner but I have always said I wanted to do a 5k. Well, we will be on CC in January & I'd love to try it. My question is, is an elliptical helpful at all for training to run? I'm going to attempt to do a C25K that is 9 weeks. And hopefully I can get through it in time. But sometimes with three kids its hard to get outside and the elliptical is what I do. I usually do 30 minutes on the elliptical.

If that's what I'm used to doing, will running a 5k be way harder & different. Or if I mostly use the elliptical & don't get a chance to do much running, do u think I have a chance of completing it? Not so worried about time, as much as just having the endurance to finish. Thanks!

I'll be on this cruise and attempting my first 5K, too! So I can't answer any of your questions, but thought I'd chime in and say see you there! :goodvibes

Yeah! I won't be the only first timer :thumbsup2

I'm definitely attempting it, no matter what my training ends up being. I'm not too worried about finishing time, just want to finish. Have you been doing any training?

I've only been walk/running during my lunch hour at work, really. Been thinking about starting to do more now that its getting closer. In all honesty, I started the walk/run at lunch to lose some weight, but thought a no-pressure 5K might be great motivation to really get me going. Sure, I might still have to walk part of it, but I'm going to do it anyway! :cool1:

I've even successfully talked my dad into trying it with me. :woohoo:

Sounds a lot like me! I've just started to do the eliptical to lose weight/ have more energy. And I think the CC5K would just be fun to try. I've always said I want to do one, so might as well be this one!

So great that your dad is doing it with you! I doubt anyone in my family will do it with me, unless my 13 yr old does. He says he is interested, but I have a funny feeling when I go to wake him up early on a vacation day, it won't sound quite so fun to him :)

I felt very similarly about it. Besides, if I'm going to try a 5K at some point, it might as well be Disney-oriented. If I can stand this, I think I'd like to try to work my way up to the Princess Half at some point and eventually the full marathon, but those are just fleeting thoughts right now. :)

As weird as I sometimes think it sounds, my dad and I do what we can to get together a couple of times a year because he lives halfway across the country from me, which turns out to be a cruise together this year. So just the two of us, but I think it makes it easier to talk him into this kind of thing.
