Casino on new ships?

I'd really rather they didn't (for a variety of reasons) but if they DO, I won't get all upset about it. It's not like I'm worried about blowing money in it- but I want a cheaper price for the cruise then... because I can go on other cruiselines a lot cheaper that have that type of "atmosphere" (that I keep hearing about) -on ships that have casinos.

(but yes, I'm fine with paying more and not having it)

I don't see it happening though. Doubtful.

::yes:: ::yes:: - what they said!!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I'm guessing probably no... but, even if they did, I'm also guessing it would be set up differently than other cruise lines.

From what I've seen on other lines, the casino is set up so that you basically have to walk through it to get to any other area of the ship. They want you in there spending money. I'm guessing if DCL ever put one in, it would be at one end of one deck...so completely avoidable by anyone who didn't want to use it.

That being said, it would take up a lot of space, resources, and cash to keep it running. And since DCL has generally been able to fill up with people willing to forgo a casino on board, it might not make financial sense to devote the resources to it since they may not get much traffic through it.

From Tom McAlpin, prior President of DCL, the new ships will definetely not have a casino. This was asked by another cruiser during a Castaway Club meeting on the first Mediterranean cruise in 2007, which Mr. McAlpin was on. Obviously I don't know if anything has changed in the past 2 years, but at that time, it was a definite no.

^^^^ Whew! I'm glad that's all cleared up. I don't think having a casino onboard DCL is consistent with their cruising philosophy.

If people want to gamble go to CC or:thumbsup2 Vegas! I am hoping that they will keep bingo as their primary "casino" and maybe create a spot on the new ships so you do not have to travel all over the ship everyday! Only time will tell!

My two cents?! No way. Disney is know for their "family" atmosphere. Las Vegas is not. I dont gamble so either way, I wont use it. But if they did decide to do one, I would have to imagine it wouldnt get USED as much as other cruiseline casinos. Just because of the demographics Disney goes after.

I would say no. If I had a vote, it would be no. Doesn't really matter to me.
My experience with cruise ship casinos has been, you might as well throw the money overboard.:lmao:

Now, since Tom McAlpin is no longer in charge, there is always the possibility that a casino may be there.:confused3
After all, the ships do need to make profits for the shareholders.

why are people so opposed to the casino? I am not a gambler, but have spent a few dollars on slots on other cruise lines. I did not notice a bad atmosphere around the casino. Just because it is a family cruise does not mean people spend every second with their kids--some people have their children in the clubs all day-even for meals.

I guess I just don;t get it-why are bars okay, but a casino is seen as such a bad thing--I suppose I'll get some negative posts for asking, but if that is what makes DCL way more money, I'd rather see the casino.

I am alott like the old Adam Ant son from the 80's "Dont Drink Don't Smoke what do ya do?" I Disney that's what I do:cool1: I don't gamble either and have NO desire to do the Vegas thing. Disney is the perfect solution for my husband and I. I could care less if you have drinks at dinner and want to go to a designated area and have a smoke but I don't want you sloppy drunk and angry because you just lost your butt playing poker.

I am highly allergic to smoke and when they walked us through the Atlantis casino I was not in there 2 minutes with the stale smoke and was already reaching for some benadryl!

I went on one carnival ship "The Triumph" it was a 5 year old ship that looked 15 and I swore off cruises after that. We took a chance with Disney and they "converted us" back from the dark side!:) Casino' add a very undesirable element.

Long Live DCL without Casinos:thumbsup2

I'll echo all of the above. I have no idea how much I've spent on DCL cruises....but I can assure you that if they put in a casino, it will be the last they'll see of MY money.

I do not drink or smoke either, and hate to be around smoking, but are you saying that everyone that gambles also smokes and gets drunk?
My mother-who is 76-loves slot machines, and has never smoked, does not drink, but at night would enjoy going to play the slots-on DCL the late evening entertainment does not exist. Why is eveyone so judgemental? I doubt DCL will draw people that cruise just to drink or gamble, but the casino would offer some other form of entertainment-we have been to family resorts that have a slots only casino and have not seen people going crazy because of their loss.
