I haven't been to WDW since I was a kid (20+ years ago!!!!). We're planning on taking our kids this year for their first time, and my son is a huge cars fan (especially lightning mcqueen). I've been looking through the attractions but I'm having a hard time finding anything for the cars characters. Am I missing something or is there just not much?

Not much at all. They recently took away the 'character' meeting with Lightning and Mater, too.

Disneyland has a big Cars area.

The Cars meet and greet ended in January.

You can go to the Art of Animation resort where one complete section is themed as Carsland. Lots of good photo ops.

I believe the Lightening and Mater meet and greet that used to be at DHS is no longer. However, it would be very much worth your while to hop on the bus and visit the Art of Animation resort. There are many places in their Cars-themed area for photo ops! Take a look on the resorts thread and look at photos.

Forget about the WDW parks for Cars related anything, but you might consider paying a visit to the Art of Animation resort.

Art of Animation is a good stop. My advice would be to not promise your son anything (besides a trip to AOA), but check a month before your trip and see if the meet and greet has been added back. They change characters around with some frequency so you never know.

Thanks for the advice. I'll have to look into going by AOA for him. Sad that the meet & greet is gone - he would have loved that!

ABSOLUTELY go to AoA.
You totally feel like you are in the movie.
He can get his picture taken with ALL the cars and it's not much different than the M&G. I think better because of the scenery.

Too bad you won't be going before Lights Motors Action is closed. There's a scene they do where Lightning McQueen comes out

What the boy doesn't know won't hurt him. He'll have plenty of fun making memories with you and the family no matter what you do!

When you visit AoA to tour the cars section be sure to get a photo in a Cars little traffic cone cabana by the cars leisure pool.

mom2rtk, I just want to know when you took those pictures without having anyone in them. ;)

Based on the lighting in the sky and the fact that the trail lights are still on, I would say she got up at 5 AM and wandered around as dawn broke.

As far as the parks go, at DLR, Cars is the biggest thing since sliced bread. At WDW...crickets. Very odd.

Consider Disneyland! Seriously...I am a huge WDW fan, but Radiator Springs is probably the coolest (best themed area) thing that Disney has created in the US.

Ditto...my son and I had a blast here last summer! We initially were not going to go on Mater's Junkyard Jamboree as we both thought it appeared geared toward smaller kids but since the wait was minimal we decided to ride. We probably both laughed the hardest on this ride and rode it several more times after that! Definitely worth a visit if you are a Cars fan!

How about staying in a Cars suite? Might be even better than visiting. We are staying in one in May and I am so excited!
