We are family of 5 that are planning to do St. Martin on our own. We want to go to Le Galion Beach, Maho Beach and maybe shop a little in Marigot or Philipsburg. Is it more practical to just take taxis or rent a car?

We are also a family of 5 and we did St. Martin on our own. We took a taxi and just asked him to bring us to a nice local restaurant for lunch. We just walked around after lunch and caught another taxi back to the port. It worked out fine for us!

I wondering about price. Part of me doesn't want to deal with renting a car but the convenience factor might be nice. Plus we have 3 kids in carseats and we aren't taking carseats with us. How does that work with taxis? Is it legal to just hold a kid?

I'm not too sure about the leagalities, but we had a 10 month old a 4 and 6 year old and we just held the little one and the boys sat in a seat. Dh sat upfront. It worked really well for us. I don't remember what we paid though.
