There is no hole in it, it is like a credit card, I don't know about punching a hole in it. I don't think I would. I did find lanyards that had a plastic case that they fit in perfectly. I held on to all six of ours, and all of our fast passes. I liked knowing where all of them were. It was handy when getting fast passes and getting in and out of parks.

FYI, if you put a credit card on you key (very convenient for buying almost anything) it doesn't apply to the one for your child.

I wouldn't recommend punching a hole in your card. Because the cards aren't swiped for entry for entry into a park, they have to be completely inserted into the turnstile, a hole in the card can cause it to get jammed. I only know this because my school ID is the same way, so when people punch holes in their cards on campus, many vending machines stop working because of cards get stuck in them.

The last thing you want is for your "Key to the Kingdom" to be jammed in a turnstile.
