Can I take a small ice chest as a carry on on an airplane?

It fits the size requirements for AA. But I wasn't sure if it was allowed.

We will be flying with 4 little ones---I want to be prepared with plenty of snacks/drinks!!!

I have! I have a small one that I've taken on several airplane trips post-911. DH and I eat low-carb and airplane food doesn't fit our eating patterns. I've always taken our own food & drinks.

I have done it several times as well. They have no problem at all with it. Have a great trip!

For your own good, you may want to look into a softsided cooler. When it is empty you can fold it up and put it away.... you aren't stuck lugging around empty!.

We packed our own dinners for the flight on our last trip. I managed to get dinner for 4 into a small softside cooler (including drinks). When it was empty I folded it up and put it in my regular carry on. Worked like a charm! I will be doing it again for our (long) upcoming trips to and from New Mexico and California!...............P
