We are going to Disney from Nov 28th till Dec 5th, it will be myself, DH and our 5yo daughter. We have a 19yo that does not want to go, he works two jobs and he will have finals when we get back. My concern is that he will change is mind a couple of weeks before the trip and want to go with us. We are doing the Free Dining, would this be a problem? The hotel sleeps four, so not having a vacancy is not an issue, but because it is past the Sept 26th date for Free Dining, would there be a problem adding him?

    Thanks!

I diddn't have your exact same situation but I was able to add our 22 year old daughter to an existing buy 4/get 3 free reservation. I booked the vacation the day the promo came out. I just added her to our reservation 1 month ago which was waaaaay after the promo ended. Good luck!

Just remember your rate will change...anyone 18 and older is another "adult" in WDW..and you are charged a fee for a 3rd adult in the room.
Values charge $10 per night, Mod's $15 and Deluxes $25..it can add up. The good thing is, since you would be increasing the cost of your package, there should not be any fee's involved. It kinda bugs me ay the Deluxe level since they HAVE bedding for 3 adults with the daybeds... but we payt the fee anyway. I hope he can join you!

    Thanks!

My husband and I thought that maybe we would go ahead and add him and then he has about two weeks before the trip to decide whether or not he is going and we can call back and take him off....

is there a fee for that?

Yes, there is a fee/penalty for any modification made after the 45 day mark. They normally don't charge a fee if you are spending more money but most times, they do charge you if you are changing the reservation to spend less money. I think the fee is $100.00. You might be better off to wait until you know for sure.

After the 45 day mark, they will charge $50 if you make a change that decreases the price. If the price increases- no fee.

If he goes, just have him sleep in the room and there is no need to "tell" anyone, you are already paying for the room. I would just pay his food seperately and purchase his park tix separtely, it would probally be less expensive and less hassle...

My suggestion is to leave your package alone. If the 19 year old decides he can come along, go to the front desk upon arrival and let them know he was able to join you unexpectedly. They will add him to the room, cut the key for him (which he needs!) and also let you know if there is an additional charge and if the DDP can be added.

I was told that I had to add our daughter at least 72 hours prior to check in. Don't know if it's different during free dining.

Thanks for the clarification. I couldn't remember what the free change was. I know at some time, I was told it was $100.00 but that could have been if it was closer to your check in date.

I am sure that is what Disney told you. But we have added people at check-in who were able to travel at the last minute and not had a problem. In some instances there has been an additional charge, but in a rare moment of Christmas spirit one year a CM simply added them to our reservation and handed us their room keys. That was totally unexpected and much appreciated!

I am not advocating that the OP sneak the son in. But, if she changes her package now she will have to pay more and it may turn out he can't travel. If she leaves it alone it can be amended later with no additional fee other than the cost of adding him to the package. If his ability to travel is affected really close to the travel date then I think he ought to be added on arrival. I don't think Disney will turn down the money.

This is a terrible idea. If he doesn't have a KTTW then he's not eligible for EMH and if he's not on your reservation then he's not allowed to use DME. On top of that, the $50 change fee (if they charge it which the likely wouldn't if you're increasing your cost) is MUCH less than the cost of his food and the third adult fee. Since you're going with free dining and he does fit within the occupancy of your current room, the only costs you'll have is the cost of his ticket, the upcharge for a third adult in the room and maybe the change fee.

If he changes his mind, just add him when you arrive. This will make it "legal" and he'll have a key for EMH and to just come and go. The only problem will be that he will not be able to get free dining--that MUST be added 72 hours prior to check-in.

If you need to use DME or really want him to have the dining plan, add him at the last minute. There should be no change fees if you increase the cost of your package. If they do insist because of the free dining (saying the value is less for them), simply tell him he needs to pay the $50 to cover the cost since he said he originally didn't want to go. Or just chalk it up to an extra $50 per night.

Thanks for your advice, everyone. :goodvibes

We talked to him and he wants to go, so we did the package including him. The deal is, if he does not go, he has to pay the change reservations fee.

He was worried about the money he would lose from missing over a week of work, but his one job he can take a week's vacation and still be paid, which he did not realize until he mentioned the trip in front of his boss. He also was concerned about studying for finals which we both will have when we get back, but he figures in the evenings he can study at the pool, plus the classes he is taking this semester are ones he considers easy. So it was not necessarily that he did not want to go with US, just that he had money and school concerns. Although he would prefer to go with friends, I am sure, but he is looking forward to going.;)
