Hello fellow members! First, a little background: Long time reader of these boards, proud new DVC member, and first time poster. My wife and I recently made the decision to (finally) become DVC members after a trip with our young sons in early November. Disney has always played a nice role in our lives. We live in Tampa and had our first date as a couple attending MVMCP in 2007, got engaged at MK in 2009, and found out my wife was pregnant with our third child while we were there in April of this year. WDW seems to hold a special place for us.

We had casually talked back and forth about joining DVC since 2009, and the time was finally right for us. It also helped that GF was a resort my wife has been in love with, so VGF was perfect for us. We purchased two contract: one for 250 points and one for 150 points.

True to form we already have addonitis. Living so close we will end up taking many trips during the year, usually shorter trips rather than longer ones. All of our extended family also lives in the area, so they will be with us frequently as well. The large amount of points just makes sense for us and how we travel to Disney.

We made the decision for Food and Wine time that we wanted a 150 point BWV contract to enjoy as an adults only trip every year. We love the Food and Wine festival. I decided we also wanted to purchase directly from Disney (gasp!) instead of purchasing resale (I've done research, and direct is just what we decided this time.) I called our sales guy and he informed me there is a waitlist for BWV which I was added to. :furious: For June UY I was third on the list. So my actual question: Does anyone know how long this waitlist process averages buying direct? This was two weeks ago, but I have no clue how long this normally takes. Is 150 points a lot to add on for one resort buying direct from a sold out resort? I'd love to hear from someone else who went through the process instead of just getting the scripted answer from sales about how "They don't know but they'll call me as soon as they're in."

    All thoughts are appreciated!

Congrats and welcome home!! I have heard that it can take 2-4 months to fill these wait lists. 150 points is a large-ish contract, especially when buying a direct 'sold-out' resort, so it likely will take a while. Most folks go for a smaller add on like 25-75 points. You may want to do two 75 pointers and one of those might be filled sooner (if they get a contract for 150 points and person #1 on the list wants 75 points, they get those and then there's another 75 to sell...say person #2 on the list wants 90 or something...there's not enough so they get skipped over and the 75 would go to you. You may even want to do 50 and 100...the 50 would be easier to get filled sooner...plus if you ever have to 'downsize' it's easier to sell off smaller contracts and you can get a higher price per point as well.

Edit to add- I called to get on HH-June UY wait list early this year. After a week, I pulled off of it and bought a resale contract. I called more recently (Sept) to add even more points (to be able to book a Grand Villa at HH for next Aug) and found there was still a wait list, so I just made do with the points we have (got a 2BR). I am tempted to call about BCV and BWV (June and Aug UY)...would like 35 points to do F&W too. I do follow the different posts about the wait lists and that's how I know that some folks had been on them for several months before getting their points.

Thanks for the insight. I'll probably give it another week then and call for an update. If there still isn't much movement I will attempt to split it up and say I'll add on smaller piecemeal to get the the 150. The annoying thing is that now that Disney is charging closing costs to the buyer, it will be slightly more expensive to do multiple contracts. Not much, but slightly.

As far as buying direct for June UY at BWV and BCV, I originally inquired about both. Both of them had an equal number waiting for June UY, which was three. Seemed from when he was counting overall people, there were more people on BWV waitlist than BCV. I think both had between 12-15 people waiting overall. I don't remember exactly, but he did count when I was on the phone with him. He did say I could get on both lists and then just decide once the points became available which one I wanted. I decided to wait on BWV only. This ran contrary to what other people have reported: that once the points became available they would charge me and sometimes not even call beforehand. He assured me this would not happen and that he would call before anything was charged to make sure I still wanted them.

I'm probably the most impatient person in the world. The entire idea of waiting on this is definitely frustrating, albeit understandable. I guess I have 29 years to enjoy it once they come through :thumbsup2

I am very impatient too. And the big draw to buying direct is having points in your account that night...well, that was once the case but not so much anymore. Good luck...hope your WL comes through in time for Christmas...would be a nice gift.

I've been on the March BWV waitlist for 4 months now, waiting for just 25 points. Sigh.

Well that is REALLY discouraging. The fact that you've been on the waitlist since March, for that small of an add on, definitely makes me rethink the entire thing. Has your sales guy given you any updates throughout the way, or are they just pretty standard answers?

I don't have any advice about it but just wanted to say that when we bought in direct 5 years ago we were told that we could only buy at SSR or AKV. I had not done that much research through the boards and believed what I was told. We bought 200 points at AKV and I am not unhappy with it. However, we really would have preferred to own at the BW area - so last May we added on when there was a lot of talk about price increase, etc... We added on through resale and will be going for our first stay at BWV in March.

When we finally purchased we were told SSR was it. Then these DIS boards came to our rescue after the initial phone call. Not only did my fellow DIS members guide me through our purchase they told me to break my points buy into 2. Can't tell you enough how great this site is as a resource. We ended up getting BWV right away......family loves it there.

I saw that the OP of that one BWV thread was on the list since July, but the whole thread seemed a little odd after I reread it.

They said that they wanted a small contract and they were number 12 or 13 on the list. Then they said their sales guide told them every month they had to start over? That whole thing didn't make sense to me. Maybe they kept getting bumped back because since they were not doing an add on and were not a previous member, those members who were adding on to their membership points got first dibs? Hard to say. I checked the Orange County Comptroller's website and there have been several direct sales every month from DVC to buyers whose deeds were recorded.

Perhaps after the first of the year we'll see more turnover with people possibly not wanting to pay maint. fees. I will also need to double check with my sales guide on price, because what I was quoted as the price over the phone was not $130 a point, which is what I saw posted on another thread as the current sales price at BWV. I actually think it was around 120 a point after some incentives. I'm sure I'll get impatient and start hunting resale, but I don't want this thread to turn into a "You should only buy resale!" thread. I love you guys, but I can't take that ;)

Did they quote you a price for BCV?

I don't believe they did. I originally called to see which resort I could by at, because I figured there was a waitlist for at least BCV or BWV. Once he said there was a waitlist for both, I ended up deciding on BWV and not worry about BCV. After that, I believe we spoke about pricing. I could always call again and ask though.

There is a 150 point June UY contract on Fidelity for 80 a point and there's also a 450 point June UY on Fidelity for 75 a point. Maybe with the 450 point on the bid will be pretty low and DVC will ROFR it. Hopefully I'd be in luck then!

I got a direct quote a couple Of months ago for 50 point add on. With incentives it came to 123 a point plus 124 in closing costs.

Oooh...thanks. I see a few small contracts for resale, not too long ago (sold now though) around $110-120 pp. Might as well buy direct and get the UY you need and fully loaded points too.

DH jokingly said he was waiting to get to WDW (we go on 12/19) to buy my Christmas present which would be 200 points at VGF. I actually said "no, I don't want that...I just want 35 BCV points"....but then we both agreed to not spend anymore money on DVC right now (we just added 150 points this year and 75 last year). What a dummy I am though...should have held him accountable for 200 VGF points.

I agree, this board has been great for me too with lots of friendly helpful advice. I don't have any regrets. I did lack some knowledge and confidence in buying resale at first. If I didn't buy direct at first I probably would not have bought in at all. I do feel that I got a good price at the time too. But, since then and learning so much I did decide to add on through resale and again got lots of info and advice here about that. Can't wait for our first visit to BW in March!!!

I'm looking for a small add-on at BWV. Been on the direct waiting list now for a Sept UY at BWV for 2 months. No idea how long the list is; every time I ask my guide he is vague and says he needs to check. Then never follows up with me. Maybe afraid to tell me the bad news?

Meanwhile scouring the resale brokers but nothing small has come in yet. SIGH....

Now there is a direct price increase. Is it only on VGF and Aulani, does anyone know?

Gosh, I hope so. Can't believe how expensive the classic resorts are now.
