buying additional points for a trip

Not sure if I'm remembering correctly or not, but here's my question:

Is it possible to buy additional points needed to reserve a trip. Not an add-on contract. I have three trips planned between now and Jan. 2014. I have a March UY and by the time I get to the January 2014 trip, I will have borrowed all my points from my 2014 UY. Depending on where I book and what size accommodations, I may be about 10-20 points short for the jan. trip. I thought I remembered reading where you could buy a small number of points thru Disney to complete the trip reservation. Is that correct or am I dreaming? Also, if it is correct, how much are those points?

Yes you can to finish a ressie up to 24 points over that you'd have to purchase an add on. I think they are $15 per point

Also, you have to call MS to purchase the points and they are only good for reservations made after the 7 month window opens.

Thanks! One more thing - is this a one-time thing or if I run out of points in the future, could I buy the up to 24 again?

(Geez, I think I'm gonna need an add-on soon. It's only 2013 and I already have my 2014 points spent!

It is 24 points .It is $15 pp. And you can buy once a year ,as the rules stand right now. PP was correct and you can only buy points for a reservation @ the 7 month window.

To me it's the 7 month rule that really makes this probably not work for me. Some of you may have read my continuing saga about trying to do a direct add on of 65 points at VGC. I have a March use year and went on the wait list last April and am still waiting. I need to book early Feb for my huge family group and yes, without that add on I am short. I do have an option of just booking the kids and their families and seeing how it plays out but really think, since we stay at VGC, that the place will be solid booked by the 7 month mark, and the extra points buy in won't work out. I think I'll just book the kids as best I can and hope my add on comes while still availability and then if things don't work out we'll have to pay cash for us for a regular Grand room...ack.

Can you rent points from someone and have them transferred to your account?

I have thought of that and skimmed the rent/trade board but didn't notice anyone with VGC points advertising. And what's the rule? I get 1 transfer in or out a year (that doesn't count banking your OWN points, does it?) and the transferred points can be banked..or no? but not borrowed..or yes? Totally confused since I've never done it before. Everyday I hope for a call from Gib :)

Transferring is not the same as banking/borrowing but yes only 1 transfer in or out per use year. So you could technically do two transfer in a single day.....one for this use year and one for next....but transferred points CANNOT be banked or borrowed. They must remain in that use year. Also you cannot book online with transferred points. You have to call MS to book using them.

The recipient can bank transferred points (but not borrow them).

Thanks! I didn't know that. That's better. I may look into the rent/trade board for some points for next year :)

Curious question then. We have friends that have last years points that were banked. They need to use them by Nov. They cannot transfer them to us, and we bank them because they are 2012 points right? They always retain their use year and resort correct?

Found my answer in another thread. I would need to transfer in 2013 points to bank them to 2014 correct?

Are the 24 points from Disney actually bought, meaning that they're added to the contract, dues will be owed on them, and they'll appear on the account the next year, etc.
OR
Are they pretty much just rented points?

Thanks!

There one time use points. You can only get the, to complete the reservation when making at 7 months or less. You can buy them once per UY.

If you buy any of the 24 points do you pay dues on them ?

No. They are One-Time-Use Points, you don't own them.

I think I'm understanding, but still a question. If I want to book at 11 months, home resort, and know I won't (at the time of booking) have enough points, can I get a transfere of points from another member prior to booking, to make up the difference?

Do they have to be the same home resort and usage year (to get that 11 month booking window)?

And if I can bank them they are good within the parameters of my UY (gone when my usage year is up once previously banked)?

I've been lookoing and looking, but haven't figured these out yet! TIA:)
