Booked :) What is the weather like in Sept? TRIP CANCELLED 7/10

YES! Thankfully in Texas, we don't have super cold winters but more than one night of that would not have been fun. We only ran 2 heaters because we did not want to risk tripping the breaker- again. We will need to prep for any Feb trips when the temps can get down to the 40/50's at Disney huh?

Just be prepared - you 'will' get hooked to the camping lifestyle! Motels/hotels just do not get it with us anymore - haven't for a long time! :)

Also, just so you are aware - camping at Disney in Jan-Feb 'can' be really cold - much lower at night than 40/50's!! We've been there 3 times in the past several years in that time frame, and it was 'near' freezing once, and below freezing the other 2 times! With the wind blowing the wind chill can be vicious!!
Every year can be different, but we no longer plan to go on those two months - too much uncertainty in temp. swings!
The cold and wet doesn't bother some people, but we are definitely negatively impacted!! :upsidedow

We have been campers (Loads of tent camping, even primitive) for awhile, but when I could not talk my husband into tent camping at Disney, we bought a popup and he is hooked on the upgrade from a tent!
That is a good tip for the Jan/Feb time. Was that the last week as well? I would not be happy camping in cold and wet at all so If September is not to terrible this time, it may be our "new" time to go since we homeschool and can avoid crowds easily.
Our anniversary is in February so it is sentimental to us, but we will see how we like the September climate and humidity.

I would be miserable at Disney in 40 degree weather!

Quick suggestion if I may. Garage Sales! I have purchased many things for friends (jack pads and stuff) at pennies on the dollar. I tell people all the time, think outside the camping box. I always see items that are labeled "RV", and it's some other item that someone figured they can make a buck on saying it's for RVers. LOVE the picture of the kids hamming it up. Totally understand the kids asking about next trip. Last time at The Fort, (we try to always be in a pet loop) my 14 year old son says "I rode around the loop (skateboard) and I think I found a couple sites that might work better". You said it would be miserable to be at Disney in 40 degree weather. Being from Chicago area, I don't much care what the temp is, as long as we're at Disney LOL.
And BIG UPS to your Dad. Rebuilds a TT hit by a train? I bow down to him in awe:worship:

One thing that got us was the clothing! How do y'all pack your clothing for an 8 day Disney trip? (Are there washing mats at FW?)

I took some pix of the laundry room in our Comfort Station this past trip. I'll post them up tomorrow. Now a few take quarters but the majority can use a credit card. $3 per load to wash or dry. We used them this trip with no problem.

So maybe you only need to pack for 4 days and do laundry once.

GREAT ideas! I never thought abotu garage sales. I will check out some that post camping gear and see what else they may have .
40 is our winter in Texas which is not so bad considering the below 0 many Northerners get (I'll refrain from saying Yankee) but you are right, you are still at Disney! I think our last Disney trip it dropped to 50 at night and hovered in the low 60s in the morning which was actually perfect for all the walking you do.
Yup- my dad told me about that when I was talking about us needing to rebuild the front of the pop. I was pretty amazed!

So laundry...on vacation?! Actually, I would rather do 4 days worth of laundry then have to try and pack for 8 days and then pack back all that dirty laundry to take care of when the vacation is over.
but sheeeeesh! $3 per load...ouch. Y'all may just see me with a clothes line hanging out my duds in the FW sun ;)

Plans may be changing some.
We are adding a 4th child to our clan- which is no biggie since it would be 3 years before we had to pay for them anyway...BUT My husband's department was laid off so between paying for a midwife and trying to Disney, we may have to push the mouse back to February. With a Newborn. On a Road Trip.

Congrats on you newest little Mouseketteer. Condolences on DH work circumstances. We'll be there in Late Jan so I will try to give you a heads up how it is then. Data may be a little dated by time you get there but may be helpful would at very least consider a second or larger heater as it can get cold at night

My goodness...not sure if I should be saying congratulations or sorry to hear of your husbands layoff.

Well, obviously I am very happy to hear of the addition and hope that your husbands time out of work is as brief as possible...I assume from your screen name that you have your faith and trust right where you need it. Disney later is better than not at all. My best to you all through your current challenges and upcoming family addition!

Thanks :)
We have been here before, the day after we found out we were having our son, my husband was laid off. And he returned to school and got his degree and career path and added 25K to our annual income- God works like that sometimes.
We totally trust that it is all going to work out. My husband has been working from home basically since the Friday they let them all go and has 5 clients right now that may be able to give him full time work with no commute. It will be contract work so yay- taxes suck sometimes but paying the mortgage is always good.

He is still wanting to try and Disney in September and not take a nursing newborn so we shall see!
The kids are through the roof excited and want their new ride partner here now haha.

I think the irony is that I started teaching childbirth classes and got pregnant the same month haha.

Congratulations!! I tend to side with your dh - think it would be much easier to enjoy Disney before the new addition, especially in Feb. with a newborn! :) The weather can be very 'iffy' then!

I agree too North of Mouse
We are still attempting to keep our September ressie, just bumped it up a week so I was not quite so ROUND.

Still need some minor things adjusted on the Pup so we can go. Hopefully it works out.

We are going to keep putting a little away each month and hopefully be able to go!

Since we are in a tent/popup loop- with kids and a stroller, is 2000 or 1500 better?
We may try all the transportation opportunities, like driving to the overflow and catching the main bus to the park, walking all the way to the marina and taking the boat to MK (or returning that way)
And just driving ourselves.
My husband loves taking the bus and monorail so we may take 2 strollers instead of the double so we can pull them behind a bike...

Any stroller tips for staying at the Fort!?

Some more repairs/updates on the Pop and we will be taking her out again this Sunday-Tuesday so I can try some crockpot cooking.

So, after the sink broke the last trip, we decided to cut some wood and stain it. It looks great! We will be also replacing the wood under the stove to match so it looks cohesive.
Wow- what a change $7 makes.

Being a renter for so many years has taught me the power of contact paper. BAM- nice looking drawers that cover the random gunk from the particle board.

It's hard to tell here, but we changed out the old dry rotted black vinyl seam cover for white and it took 5 years off the popup! Why did they ever use black?

Until we have AC, we will be using these amazing fans!

Still need to get out the Mean Green and finish the mildew removal and dye the cushion covers grey but that can wait.

RFC,

The popup is really coming along. The outside is in great shape and the counter you stained looks great.

I ditto the previous comments...I am awed by all the great effort you have put into fixing up that pup! Looking great!

Took the little pup for another test run. It rained off and on and we are happy to report no leaks. We still have some seams to repair, but at least they do not leak.
Before our next weekend trip in June, we MUST get an AC in it and repair the bunkends. I slept on both bunks and was miserable. We are not sure how much clearance we have to add a topper, but my hips hit the board and with being pregnant- that is not going to fly for 8 days at Disney.
We also need to figure out why it bounces so much. We moved weight around and everything but if it hits a bump in the road, it practically leaves the ground.
My husband is not too happy about the way it tows right now.

The weather was pretty close to what we are expecting at Disney so it was good to see how we will do: It was 86 with a humidity of 76%. We need to stay hydrated and we must camp closer to the comfort station because we parked in the furthest site away this time and it was a pain going back and forth with the kids and a pregnant bladder.

We also need to contain our clutter more!

Poison Ivy abounded here and my husband and kids kept walking right though it. Hopefully they are not bothered by it like I am.

A nice little spot for such a tiny State Park. We went to Lockhart because it is 30 minutes from our house. The pool was closed until next weekend (bummer) but the hiking trails were amazing and better than the big parks we have been to.

This is the fire my 8 year old built for smores.

That was a real nice campsite minus the poison ivy. And from pic of the inside of the camper says the kids were having a ball

As of now, we are going to have to CANCEL our September trip. The hubs business is taking off, but slower than expected so we are penny pinching. We will take the kids to the beach instead and look at camping in 2017.

We are ok with it anyway, vacations are more enjoyable when not strained and we originally planned on going every 2 years so Feb is still on target for that.
The kids really want to go see the Ark Encounter in KY so we may make a long trip out of it and do both!

Plus, after 4th of July in Texas, I don't want to try the Humidity of FL when I am very pregnant haha.

And we are having a BOY- so we will have 2/2, makes future camping easy.
