Welcome to my first ever Pre-Trip Report. Wait, that is not technically true, I did start typing up a Pre-Trip Report for our last trip but never started a thread for it here on the DisBoards.

So….Welcome to my first ever PUBLISHED Pre-Trip Report!

This trip has been a long one in the making. We had originally hoped to be back to WDW in the Fall of 2014, but due to my son’s medical issues last year (more on that later) we had no choice but to postpone, at least 1 year. So for my family, it will be 3 years since our last visit, November 2012.

First, the when! We will be leaving on Black Friday, November 27th and begin the long, 20+ hour drive to Florida. The plan is to arrive in Orlando around mid-Day on Saturday, November 28th and head straight for DTD.

Next the who! 5 adults, 4 child, 1 infant and 1 dog. So that is 10 people and 1 dog. I see you have noticed that we are bring an animal with us, which means we will not be staying on property (more on that later). I don't mind so much, as our dates don't fall into the Free Dining Promo anyway.

Let's begin with some introductions!

My family first:

I’ll start with myself…my name is Kim and I’m a Disney Addict! I have been visiting WDW since my first trip at 6 months old with my parents. I don’t think I actually became “addicted” until after returning from our 2007 trip. At that point I was a new mom and hadn’t visited since my senior class trip in 1994. There was no planning or research done for the 2007 trip (GASP - - I know). We had no idea that the Flower & Garden Festival was going on, my husband’s trip was cut short because of flooding at home, we stayed off-property and had NO ADRs! Beginners!

When we decided to go back in July 2011 for 2 weeks, again staying off-site, I was prepared. I spent months planning, revising, gathering information and learning everything I needed to know for our trip. The family I traveled with was amazed on how prepared I was and what an easy trip it was, they just went with my schedule and everything flowed perfectly! On our last day my daughter and I even hit all 4 parks in 1 day!

Our last trip was just my husband, daughter and myself in November 2012 when we finally were able to stay on-site and even had free dining! Again a lot of planning and scheduling made the trip a breeze!

Now I don’t get to go as often as I would like and this trip is only #15 in my 39 years. I am self diagnosis with CDO, which is OCD but in order. Since I enjoy the extreme planning and constant thirst for Disney knowledge my traveling companions have left me in charge of all the planning / reservations / organizing this trip.

At MNMCP November 2012!

Next Up is my husband Jim, he is 44 years old and isn’t a big fan of Disney, He is 1 of 8 children and growing up they weren’t able to vacation much. He tolerates my obsession to a point, but I know how to get around talking about Disney and this trip when he is in the room. His first ever trip was in 2007. On our first day we visited AK and it ended up pouring so much that we had to run for cover and the park was shut down for lightening strikes. We were able to get to MK in the evening (after drying off), but during Wishes we received a phone call that our hometown was flooding along with our basement. The next morning he flew home to take care of things. He has since returned to WDW on our trip in 2012 and did enjoy himself, but this is technically only his 2nd visit to the Mouse!

Hubby & I waiting for our turn on Star Tours!

Then there is my daughter Mackenzie who is currently 8, but will be turning 9 on this visit. Our first park day will be her actual birthday and we are keeping our fingers crossed that we can get one of the coveted BOG Dinner reservations. She is my Disney Princess through and through, as well as my partner in crime. She eats, sleeps and breathes Disney. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this goes on as long as possible! I have noticed that some of the other girls in her 2nd grade classes have moved on from Disney Princesses this year, but not mine; she searches out Hidden Mickey’s in everything we do! She even insisted on a Frozen Backpack and Lunchbox this year.

Mackenzie has a very active schedule that keeps us all busy – Girl Scouts, Tap Dance classes, during the Spring & Fall she participates in Soccer and the winter is Basketball. Her first trip was in 2007 when she was 4½ months old and this will be her 4th visit.

Lastly is my son Alexander. Alexander will be 3 weeks shy of his 2nd birthday on this trip (23 months) and it will be his first ever visit to WDW! The reason this trip was postponed from last year is because Alexander was born with heart defects and a clubbed foot. Before he was 5 months old he had undergone 3 medical procedures and 4 major surgeries, including 3 open heart surgeries in an attempt to repair the valves and holes in his heart. We spent just over 3 months in the hospital. Since his last surgery in May 2014, everything has been holding steady. There are still 2 small holes and some leakage, that will eventually need to be repaired, but his doctors are hopefully that another surgery can wait until a couple years out when he is older and stronger. As of his latest cardiology appointment on April 6th there has been no change, which is good and bad. Good because he isn’t getting worse at this time but bad because they were hoping for some reduction in the leak by now. We mentioned to the doctor that we are planning this trip and she has no issues with us going at this point. He'll have another cardiac check-up on October which will be the ultimate go or no-go for this trip.

As promised, introductions of My Parents (Nana & Pop-Pop):

First my mom or Nana. Mom is a retired hair-dresser but is currently getting back into the work force as a lunch lady at the Elementary School in town. Nana is still learning all she needs to know about Disney by currently reading the latest travel books. She shares my enthusiasm for planning as it is new to her but she still lets me handle everything.

Nana’s Favorites:

Park – Epcot

Ride – Small World
Character – Mickey Mouse
Princess – Ariel
Villain – Ursula

Now my dad, or Pop-Pop. Even though both of my parent's are big Disney fans, my father is leaps and bounds more so than my mom. Pop-Pop's nickname is Mickey Mouse! Pop-Pop even feeds into my Disney Addiction by purchasing my lovely Disney Vera Bradley bags. Dad is very active, works 2 jobs, bowls twice a week, and holds positions on both the local and state bowling boards.

And finally......My Sister, her 3 Daughters & the Dog:

First up is my sister, we are they only 2 children to my parents. Christina is 37 and we will be returning home from this trip only 1 day before her 38th birthday (so keeping track, this is the 2nd birthday we will be celebrating). Kiki (as my daughter affectionately calls her) is a fabulous single mom to 3 beautiful girls. She takes care of kids during the day as well as a runner and soccer & basketball coach all while juggling multiple committees for the band (just elected President of the Band Parent's) and recreation department. In high school she was a cheerleader who got to travel to WDW to compete, next year she is hoping to join her oldest daughter and the High School Band to compete in WDW.

Chrissy’s oldest daughter is Kaylee who will be turning 14 a week before our trip (the 3rd birthday celebration)! Kaylee is into the arts, drama and color guard. She loves to read and draw, but is prone to motion sickness so unfortunately a lot of the rides are a no go for her. But she loves Disney and cannot wait to get back! This will be her 3rd trip, last being in the summer of 2011.

Our final travel companion is my sister’s dog, Dakota. Dakota is a mini Alaskan Eskimo dog. Feisty and fluffy, he is very protective of all the kids but loves a good game of catch as well. He also gets very jealous when he isn’t the center of attention. He is attached to my sister until he does something wrong then he is my father’s dog, dad picked him out after all! Dakota will be 3 years old and spending most of his days at the Mickey Mouse kennel.

My sister & her girls, July 2011.

On both our trips in 2007 & 2011 we took family photos in Canada! We will again update the photo this year, as it is tradition!

Here is a pic of my son, daugher and 3 nieces!

Thanks for bearing with me through the introductions. Now that you know the cast of characters, next up is where will we sleep!

You will be there the week before us! Are you going to the Christmas party?

Oh where should we stay?

So as I mentioned before, traveling with Dakota means we can not stay on Disney property. Well we can if we wanted to camp, but my parent's are not big campers and I think late November / early December may be a little chilly. Although I think it would be fun to try the camp grounds at one point.

Now to the topic at hand. During our 2007 & 2011 trips there were 15 of us (no dog) and we were able to stay at the same house both visits, in Formosa Gardens, a 7 bedroom / 5 bathroom house that fit us perfectly and was only minutes outside the MK gate.

This time we have less people so that place would be a bit big, plus it doesn't allow pets. So we searched and searched, sharing links to each other via email trying to decide on just what house would fit our needs. The kids of course wanted the houses with themed bedrooms.

Finally we settled on this beauty:

An Aviana Vacation Villa with 6 bedrooms and 6 baths, in a gated resort community, also has a pool & hot tub!

And the kids are happy - there is a Mickey Mouse room and a "Castle" room

.

For a recap - - we have our cast of characters and now our home away from home all set. Now up is our tentative schedule! Which park will we hit first? What restaurants are we hoping to eat at? When will we go to MVMCP?

Please stay tuned.......

What our week looks like as of now!

Now this is what we have planned before the December hours came out earlier this week. I still have to look at Josh's recommended park days as well as Touring Plans before everything gets "set in stone."

Friday, November 27th – leave NJ for FL

Saturday, November 28th – arrive in FL, head to DTD, food shop, check-in to house and unpack / relax / swim. I have already made a dinner reservation for this evening at Ming Court on International Drive for 6:30pm. We have eaten here in 2011 and it is a favorite of all. With almost 2 days of driving we realize no one will want to cook so we all voted to go here.

Sunday, November 29th (Mackenzie’s Birthday) – head to MK, try to secure a late (6:00pm) dinner reservation at BOG then leave because it is a MVMCP night. If we cannot get a dinner reservation at BOG we will probably try Whispering Cannon Café

Monday, November 30th – off to Epcot, touring the countries, and eating and drinking around the world. Because there are so many options, the fact that we do not have the dining plan and that everyone wants to eat something different....we are not making any ADRs for Epcot.

Tuesday, December 1st – this will be our only day at Hollywood Studios. Kaylee’s only request so far is to eat at 50’s Prime Time Café’, so we will celebrate her birthday today! Time is still up for debate, but probably looking at a late afternoon lunch with morning and evening snacks. Osborne Lights and Fantasmic! are both on our must do list!

Wednesday, December 2nd – back to MK for a full day in the park. Even though it really isn’t a recommended day, because of the evening EMH, it’s the only full day we can be in the park to see the nighttime parade and wishes. Hoping for late afternoon lunch reservations at either BOG or Liberty Tree Tavern.

Thursday, December 3rd – we will be attending MVMCP on this night (thanks to Nana and Pop-Pop for our party tickets as part of our Christmas presents) so it is a “no park” day. The plan is to have breakfast at O’hana for Sydney’s love of Stitch, then ride the monorail to resort hop and see the Christmas decoration.

Friday, December 4th – our last park day will be spent again in Epcot finishing up and re-visiting. And still eating and drinking around the world, so again no planned ADRs.

Saturday, December 5th – the sad day….leaving day! Will probably stop at DTD again before getting back on the road though.

Because of the lack of pictures in this update, I thought I would include these 2:

My husband's favorite Disney movie is Mary Poppins because he use to be a chimney sweep, so we had to get this picture in November 2012.

My daughter's all time favorite ride is Dumbo! Her face the first time she saw it in July 2011 was priceless and I kick myself because I didn't have my camera ready!

Next up: Sunday Family Movie Nights so far!

I have been following a thread here on the Disboards for sometime now regarding Disney Movie theme nights. It's amazing how creative some people are!

When we finally decided that, yes we would definitely be going to Disney in 2015, I thought to myself, how great it would be to incorporate Disney Movie nights and meals into our weekend family gatherings. But as seeing how I am much more Disney crazed than anyone else, I thought my family would think I was nuts!

By chance, our Sunday Family dinner on December 28th happened to be Chicken Parmigiana, with spaghetti. I happened to mention that after dinner we should watch Lady and the Tramp because it goes so well with dinner. Amazingly enough no one batted an eye and instead agreed.

When the movie was over the kids were asking / planning what movie we would watch the following Sunday, and so began Sunday Family Disney Movie Night! First we let each of the kids pick their favorite movies and put them in a bucket to be randomly picked each week.

Unfortunately I don't have picture of the decorations, kids and food from every Sunday, but I will post what I have and what I can remember....

Sunday, January 4th was luau night with Lilo & Stitch - grilled chicken & steak kabobs

Sunday, January 11th we went French with the Aristrocats - French Dip with French Fries

Sunday, January 18th we stayed with our French Theme with Beauty and the Beast - Homemade French Onion Soup, Chicken Cordon Blue and for dessert - the Grey Stuff, it was delicious!

Sunday, January 25th we joined the circus and watched Dumbo - here's one where there weren't any pictures and I'm drawing a blank, I believe fried food / circus themed.

The following Sunday of course was Super Bowl so we didn't have a movie for this week.

Sunday, February, 8th we joined Ariel under the sea for The Little Mermaid and had surf & turf for dinner, along with King Triton's Triton Breadsticks and Ursula Octopus Hot Dogs

More Disney Family Movie Night Dinners continued in next post!

I love the octopus hot dogs! Those are adorable! :cutie:

And I don't know what's in the blue fish bowl glass, but it's making me thirsty! :drinking1

Thanks! I'm not quite sure what the beverage was, my sister is the "mixologist" but if I would venture a guess, I would say a Blue Hawaiian.

Continuing with the Sunday Family Disney Movie Nights:

Next was Sunday, February 15th - the Sunday before Fat Tuesday, so of course the movie selection was The Princess and the Frog and a make believe trip to New Orleans! I'm not exactly sure what we had for dinner, in the past we have tried some Cajun dishes, but the kids were not very fond of them. I do know there were Hurricanes and for dessert my sister made her homemade beignets! YUMMY!

Beverages ready!

My sister & I

My sister, myself and the 4 girls. We actually visited New Orleans in 2012 (without the kiddos) and brought everyone home the masks!

The following Sunday, February 22nd we celebrated Chinese New Year by watching Mulan. We cheated and ordered in Chinese food, but my creative sister did make dessert sushi with rice krispie treats, fruit roll ups and gummy fish!

Our next movie was for my son, The Lion King (it's the theme in his nursery room) on Sunday, March 1st. We didn't go too crazy, steak for dinner because Lions like meat and pudding dirt cups for dessert because bugs are delicious!

The girls enjoying dinner!

My son with his lion pals!

My sister and daughter twinning, routing for their favorite hockey team and being zebras!

Dessert Dirt Cups

We skipped a couple weeks to celebrate my niece's 10th birthday on the 8th and the 15th we attended a St. Patrick's Day parade in a neighboring town. But to stick with the Disney theme and to celebrate St. Patrick's Day ourselves, on Sunday, March 22nd we watched Brave. Again I'm drawing a blank on what meal we served, but my niece spent the day making Bear Paw cookies!

The following week we watched Aladdin on Sunday, March 29th, we stuck with the Moroccan theme - shish kabobs and couscous for dinner and Abu's Monkey Bread for dessert.

On Sunday, April 5th we celebrated Easter with the family and had our traditional ham and prime rib dinner. Afterwards we played both Fantasia & Fantasia 2000. We then again skipped a few weeks due to prior weekend commitments, including one niece's 12th birthday. The next movie night we had was Sunday, May 3rd which we celebrated Cinco de Mayo by watching The Three Caballeros. Which overall is a very strange movie, most of the kids got bored and went to do something else. Dinner was tacos and margaritas. Sorry, no pictures.

Since then our weekends have been pretty busy, Mother's Day which we also celebrated my birthday, we had a fund raiser event to attend on the 17th and then of course this past weekend was Memorial Day. I'm actually not sure we are going to get back into the groove for a couple months. With the warm weather and summer approaching, the kids rather be outside in the pool than sitting inside watching movies. It was fun while it lasted and hopefully we can pick it back up as we get closer to our vacation!

Next up - - stressing over ADRs!

Hello, followed you over from the Dec 2015 thread. I love the idea of Disney themed movie night, I just have never committed my self to following through with it. looks like a lot of fun.

:welcome: Thank you for coming over! It was fun, but I can tell the kids are getting bored with it now. I think the most difficult part was coming up with foods unique to the movie but not to out there so the kids would eat it.

I love the movie nights, I'm thinking of doing those with my family as well. It looks like so much fun!
We dud have a lot of fun, I also tried to incorporate some trivia from the movies, to see if everyone was actually paying attention.

ADR Breakdown!:

So here is what the mornings look like for me next week (can someone please double check that my dates are correct?):

Our first park day is Magic Kingdom on Sunday, November 29th - so my first ADR day is Tuesday, June 2nd: I will be up and online at 6am to try and get a late dinner reservation at BOG. Should that not happen, our back up is Whispering Cannon Cafe, again a late dinner. This is my DD's 9th birthday so I am hoping for some pixiedust: that we get BOG. Then at 7am I will be on the phone with a CM to book the 4 girls at Pirates League (which is a surprise and will be difficult as my DD will be up getting ready for school and wondering what I am up to!)

For Monday, November 30th we will be in Epcot and have decided not to make reservations for a sit down meal, but instead to snack at each pavilion. Drinks too! :drinking1

Tuesday, December 1st is our only day in Hollywood Studios, so on Thursday, June 4th I will be up at 6am in hopes of getting a late lunch reservation for 50's Prime Time Cafe. This is the only restaurant my niece Kaylee insists we eat at. There is no back-up choice.

Wednesday, December 2nd we are back for a full day at MK, this is the only day available that we can see the evening shows - Electric Parade and Wishes. The park is not recommended on this day as there are evening EMH, but as of right now crowd level is still a 5, not too bad. Again and online for 6am on Friday, June 5th, to get late lunch reservations for BOG, my niece Isabelle chose this one, we do have a back up of Liberty Tree Tavern. My choice as I have never eaten here before and the Colony Salad with either Grilled Chicken or Salmon sounds yummy!

Thursday, December 3rd is our MVMCP date. I will be up early again (for 6am) to try for a late breakfast at 'Ohana. My niece Sydney loves Stitch, so this is a must do for her. Plus our plan is to visit the Poly and Grand in the morning to see the Christmas decorations before a nap then getting to MK for 4pm for the party.

Friday, December 4th is our last park day and we plan to be back at Epcot. Again no reservations but to eat Internationally! When we leave on Saturday, December 5th we hope to spend some time at DTD before the drive hone, but again no reservations probably just stop in at a QS, Earl of Sandwich for me!

So what do you guys think? I'm truly hoping that since it is the week after Thanksgiving and Free Dining is not being offered that I may have a chance at getting everything we want. If we don't, has anyone used those DiningBuddy apps that look for reservations for you? Any reviews?

Yesterday was my first early morning and boy did I mess that up!

First of all, our town's public schools were closed on Monday for an unused snow day, so our kids had another 3-day weekend. Then I forgot that yesterday (Tuesday) was DD8's 2nd grade class trip that I was chaperoning! I was up early to make ADRs, but I also had to pack lunches for her and I, as well as get all of my son's stuff together so he could spend the day at my sister's. Let me tell you, it was a busy and stressful morning!

So I wake up with my alarm at 5:30am, BTW - my alarm is the music from the Tiki Room! At the computer logged into My Disney Experience, have the restaurant tabs open and start refreshing at 5:59am. Today my main reservation was for our dinner, DD8 really really really wanted BOG and our back-up was WCC. This is a MVMCP at MK, so we were hoping for a 6pm at BOG or after 7:30pm at WCC. Needless to say I could not get BOG for dinner, but I did get WCC for 5:25pm. I am going to keep trying for BOG or to at least move the WCC later.

Next I decided to see what was available for breakfast and Pixie Dust pixiedust: was flowing freely as I scored a 8am reservation at Crystal Palace! As of right now the park hours for MK has an opening of 9am, do you think this will change and screw up my pre-park opening breakfast?

So now that I am a bit happier :yay: with my breakfast reservation, let's see what is available for lunch.......we currently have a reservation for 11:55am at BOG! Yep, 3 sit down meals in 1 day! Now we are not going to eat this much food. Hopefully on Friday when I am up early making our reservation for 12/2 I will get another BOG lunch reservation for this day and in turn cancel our lunch on 11/29.

Now I'm doing more running around, DD8 is finally up, lunches need packing, baby needs packing and I need to call Disney directly to make hair reservations! I wanted to surprise DD8 with something special as it is her actual birthday. I looked into BBB, but it is for 12 years and under, and my one niece will be 14, no go! Next I checked out Pirates League and the age for that is anyone (even adults) 3 years and old. So that is the route I was taking.

Called Disney Dining exactly at 7am and was probably on hold for about a half hour, although the recording told me it was going to be about 15 minutes. It's all good though, I enjoy the on hold music :rolleyes1:rolleyes1:rolleyes1 I finally get a very nice CM on the line. First I get ask her to check dinner availability for both restaurants and still nothing better than what I have....moving on! Then I ask for the earliest available PL appointments for 4 girls, and more pixiedust: as there are 4 appointments for 9am when they open! My final reservation for this day is to get my DS' first hair cut at Harmony Barber Shop. No problem I'm told and easily slip into an 11am slot. And all of this on the sly so my DD8 didn't hear who I was talking to or about what.

Now that my first day of reservations were set, I was exhausted. Instead of heading back to bed I boarded a school bus and joined the 2nd graders at a working farm to learn how farm life was back in the early 1900's. Oh and did I mentioned everything was outside with a steady drizzle.......

Yep I needed a nap when we finally got home :faint::faint::faint:
