Hi! :wave2: DH, DS15 and I are intending to visit Las Vegas next summer for a few days prior to DCL Mexican Riviera cruise. I've had a look at the hotels on offer and the choice is amazing. The Bellagio and the Venetian look beautiful but I'm not sure the theming would catch a 15 year old guitar freak's imagination. Anyone have any recommendations?

I'd have to say that Vegas is simply not geared for teens or kids regardless of what they say. Circus-Circus has the amusment park, Mandalay has great pools, and there are outside "attractions". He might enjoy the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, especially if there is a well known band playing during your visit.

But, and a big one, most all of the Vegas clubs are adult only and minors are flat out prohibited from the casino floor.

The Hard Rock would be a 15-year old guitar-freaks dream hotel. Lot's of rock memorabilia. A great pool to hang out in. Easy access in and out of the place without having to go through the casino, roving hoards of drop dead gorgeous females (Mom might not like that aspect, but DS will).

The drawback is that it isn't right on the strip, so you'll need to walk or drive over to see the sights. Very easy drive - the walk isn't that far, but it's not real pleasant in the middle of summer.

If you want to stay on the strip, I don't think anything is going to seem that great to a 15-year old. Much of the themeing in the resorts is geared around clubs and casinos where he can't go.

We are taking our teenagers to the Flamingo. It has a really nice pool and is near everything. Probably my second choice would have been New York, New York.

I agree with the Hard Rock being a good choice for a 15 yr old guitar freak. But I don't think I'd walk to the strip from there. We drove to the strip and parked one place each time...not bad at all.

I also think Mandalay Bay might be a good choice as well. The shops at Ceasar's might keep him occupied so that might be a good choice too.

well this is just my two cents, I think a teenager would like somewhere else then Vegas, I didn't think it was geared towards kids at all, it's like an adult playground.

For me it's a toss up between NY, NY and Circus Circus if you want to stay on the strip. Circus Circus has the Aventuredome "theme park" which offers a day of entertainment. But aside from the Stratophere, I find it on the less interesting side of the strip. NY NY has the roller coaster and is close to Excalibur, MGM and the Luxor which are also pretty interesting hotels to see. Hard Rock would probably be the most entertaining for a "guitar freak" with the bands that play there also.

We stayed at the Luxor in Feb but because we were having an early celebration for our silver wedding we left our teens at home.

Didn't visit the Hard Rock hotel as it was off the Strip.

But would recommend the New York New York hotel if you are taking teens. Also the Stratoshere but that is further up the Strip than most of the other hotels but has amazing rides on the top.

Wouldn't stay at Circus Circus if you paid me it was scruffy when we were there.

Note that kids cannot stop on the casino floor only walk through.

I've stayed at the Grand MGM 2X within the past few years. My teens love it:thumbsup2 . Both times I used Hotwire.com and selected a 4 star hotel on the strip (south) for under $65.00 per night. I wouldn't use Hotwire though unless your willing to stay somewhere else- Hotwire picks your hotel for you.

NY-NY
Hard Rock
Mandalay Bay (Best pool in Vegas!)

I agree with these choices as well. We have visited Mandalay Bay and the pool is the best! NY-NY is fun too, because it has the roller coaster. MGM has a really neat pools and a lazy river.

I know a few people who have taken their teens to LV and they stayed at Mandalay Bay. A great time was had by both the teens and their parents.

Our favorite hotel is Mandalay Bay. The wave pool is just what teenagers love. I think during the summer, they have mini-concerts on a stage near the pool area at night. Then they have a lazy river. The rooms are big and the bathrooms are very nice and with a big tub and large glass door shower.

Lots of teenagers (13 and up) were hanging out by the pools when we went in late June last year. Avoid Circus Circus. That hotel is not well kept, rooms are very average, and the games & rides in the dome will be considered juvenile by your 15 year old. He probably would like to visit a large video arcade more than winning stuffed animals from carnival games.

Thanks for the input, everyone! :thumbsup2 Mandalay Bay looks to be the place and TBH it's a hotel I wouldn't have necessarily thought of - just goes to show, yet again, how brilliant these boards are! :disrocks:

Mandalay Bay is also the home of the Las Vegas House of Blues. Surf the Internet and find a concert schedule for the dates you are there; there are always bands that I've never heard of there that a guitar freak may be familiar with, and some of the shows are all ages.

I live in Las Vegas. I have stayed at Caesars Palace and the Bellagio both are very nice, to bad they are here. But for a 15 year old I can't recommend any of the hotels. My husband and I have walked up and down the strip.
Shopping at the Fashion Show Mall and having dinner at Maggiano's and walking to see the fountains at the Bellagio. TO me this is not a place to bring families. I really don't care for the atmosphere on the strip. We only go there because the Apple Store is located in the FSM and Maggiano's is there too. On the strip you will encounter people attempting to pass out "unwanted cards" to everyone that passes by. You can only imagine the pictures on them. The Casinos are full of smoke and drinking is everywhere.

i prety much agree with most of the posts, Hard Rock, NY NY, Circius Circius, or MGM.

I would stay away from Circus Circus that place is a dump of a hotel. Trust me, it's a dump and too many small children running around.
