Monday 18th May. Day 5- Universal Studios
Started the day at the Contempo Café again today.
The cab was booked to take us to Universal Studios for 9.20 am and it turned up on time. After a short journey we arrived at Universal and went up in the lift to reach the long corridor that you had to take to reach City Walk. As we walked through City Walk we made our way to Universal Studios. Obviously taking Pictures of the spinning globe.

I was a bit apprehensive about visiting Universal as 5 years ago found the staff rude and not very helpful. We had got a GAC card before but the woman who gave it to us was very reluctant snapping at us saying, “you wont be allowed to the front of the queue” We were ok about that, as at the time Luke was in a disabled buggy, and basically needed the GAC so he’d be allowed to stay in it for the shows etc. We hardly did anything here or at IOA as the queues were at least 1hour30 and as their height requirements are a lot taller than Disney it meant Luke couldn’t do anything. So I was hoping this time would be different.
Before we went in the entrance we spotted Curious George outside and got our pic taken with him. We then made our way to the ticket booths and swapped our Virgin vouchers for Tickets. We then joined the queue for guest services to see what disabled facilities they had but after about 15mins of the queue going nowhere we gave up. When we got inside we saw there was another Guest services with no queue so we went there. We got some booklets but they didn’t give us any type of assistance card.
We got the usual guides and times leaflets and headed straight for The Simpsons Ride.
The queue wait time was stated at 40mins but it had to be done. I think we only queued 30mins anyway. I sat in the middle at the back, there’s lots of jerking forward and backwards and found a couple of times I hit my head on the bit at the top that comes over and is slightly in front at the top. Its just the design of the seat but I wouldn’t of liked to have been taller otherwise id of hit my head every time we jerked forward. I enjoyed the ride more than when it was the Back To The Future ride.
We looked in the shop after
    [IMG]
When we came off there it was pouring with rain so we headed for MIB 45 min wait, this was pretty accurate. You can’t take any bags with you but they offer you free lockers for this. I thought this was a great idea though after the ride I couldn’t understand why as it wasn’t a rollercoaster or anything. It was just sitting in a car shooting at aliens. Guess health and safety has really gone mad!
We then did Jaws, 20 min wait but this was much more, probably double. Luke wasn’t too sure what to make of it. We’d done it before and I think he loved it, this time he was half and half. We then finally stopped for lunch going to create a burger for guess what? Yes a burger! The rain kept stop/starting and typically it stopped when we were having lunch.
After lunch matt went on the Mummy ride, he used the single ride line so wasn’t too long. Luke and I tried to keep out of the rain by sheltering in an alcove. Next up was Shrek 4D (we’d missed this last time), Luke loved the moving seats. Finally we went to Terminator 3D, Luke hated this last time but really enjoyed it today.
Overall I thought it was an OK day, we were coming back to do Islands Of Adventure so would probably do bits of Universal again too.
We then left to finally catch the ride back to the hotel.
Now, last time we brought transfers we had cab for the round trip, this time we got cabs in the morning and then it was a coach back to the hotel stopping at Seaworld to pick others up and then dropping at loads of hotels along the journey back. I wouldn’t of minded so much if we’d know this or been told. Perhaps Virgin need to make those welcome meetings longer again?! If we’d had know we’d probably have arranged other transport, and saved ourselves a lot of time, as this journey back took over an hour. We had just enough time to shower and change before heading to the Polynesian.

    To Be Continued………………………………………………………….

Our ADR for O’Hana was at 7.05pm but they were running about 20 mins late.
We waited in the area near the bar. The Polynesian is always very busy and I think it’s strange as there is a huge area near the bar, but only a few seats so lots of people just end up sitting on the floor. Our buzzer went off and as we were show our table we were told about O’hana. O’hana means family and we were greeted as cousins.
I was really looking forward to this meal as the pics id seen on Dis of the shrimps (my fav) looked yummy. I didn’t think Luke would like much if anything. Matt, I wasn’t too sure I knew he’d love the meat but wasn’t too sure about the rest.
Our drinks order was taken, I really wanted to order a Lapu Lap but she just took our soft drinks order and left us the cocktail menu to look at. The next thing we knew we were bombarded with food.
First came the salad, it was nice and refreshing
    [IMG]
    Then pork dumplings, yum yum
    [IMG]
    Next came the chicken wings-gorgeous!
Then they brought out some noodles, these were slightly dry but still nice. Thankfully Luke liked these.
They also brought out a bowl of veg, i loved this and ate pretty much all of it.
They also brought out some dipping sauces for our meats.
Now I didn’t really take any pics of the meats as I felt silly enough taking pics of my food without asking to take a pic of someone holding the food. The meats are lots of different types of meats all on different skewer-Shrimp, Steak, Pork and turkey. They were all delicious.

Finally they brought out the bread pudding, now i knew Matt would love this but im not really a pudding fan but i loved it. The only thing that surprised me was the size of the portion, Matt could of eaten that all by himself plus more! sorry it got started before i could take a pic, Luke just got ice cream.

overall Matt and i loved it! We thought it all tasted delishious. Luke didnt really. The only thing is we struggled with keeping up, as you can imagine we have to feed Luke so it takes us a lot longer to eat. We we're still on the 1st and 2nd bits when theyd brought out the meats. I never got round to getting my Lapu Lapu but i will go back at some point and may try to ask if we could get it slowed down. i hope its as great next time.

Glad you enjoyed your day at Universal.

I can't wait to try Ohana's - although we are only having brekkie but I may see if I can squeeze a dinner in too.

We love both Universal parks. Last year my friend went for the first time with her son who has aspergers. Guest relations gave them a pass for the whole family which lasted for the day. They told her if she came back,to do the same thing.

    Really enjoying your report:cutie:

i think it was probably the weather and the waiting time, it wasnt too bad.
i enjoyed the rides we went on. went back a few days later. ;)

me too, i think the server came back to see if we wanted any cocktails and Matt said no. i stil wasnt over my cold/sore throat so prob was best i didnt have one. matt still got an evil eye though :rotfl:

yes will def try next time. :thumbsup2

well it wasnt really a proper creat ur own burger.
they had set burgers and then there was just a salad station where you put on what you wanted. i think thats what they meant. :confused3
They did have a good few burgers to choose from though and different types of cheese in them :)

O'Hanas looks amazing. I have heard plenty about it but not really looked into it that much. Might have to give it a proper look now that I have seen your pics.
Shame you didn't get a GAC at Universal. Our DS is Autistic and we have managed to get assisstance for him during our last 2 trips. I'm surprised that with Luke being in a chair that the CMs didnt point you the right way regardless of whether you had a pass or not.

I'm glad your experience at Universal was a bit more positive this time Nicky - I must admit, I prefer IOA out of the two though.

Food at 'Ohana looks lovely :thumbsup2
