Bears Fans: Jay Cutler Why does everyone hate him?

As a 21+ year Denver Bronco Season Ticket holder, despite our horrendous record this year, there is no way that I nor most of the Denverites I know would want the Whining "Nothing is Ever My Fault" Diva back on the team. Cutler is a good quarterback, certainly not a great quarterback.

Speak for yourself.

Media always disliked Cutler because he'd be abrupt with them when they'd ask stupid questions.

So when he had his tiff with McDanials they jumped all over him and gave him the whiner tag.

It turns out Jay was correct about the coach that turned one of the most respected teams into a team that coaches refused to interview with.

Cutler is a fantastic talent that needed to mature a little. Looks like he is maturing just fine in Chicago.

I do think, though, that as a quarterback, it is part of your job to be interacting with the press. I think Chicago fans have a lot of trouble with him because of that. It's hard for us to judge his character when all we see are his attitude during the interviews. And in those, he seems like he would rather be anywhere else but there. And I can understand that the press gets annoying asking some of the questions they do. Regardless, someone in the organization needs to put that guy through a manners class.

He doesn't seem to win or lose with class. He does come off whiney and petulent. He also seemed like a wimp to me today. Most other QB's would of stayed in. I was surprised he left. I am a Charger fan but didn't know that Rivers hates him or vaguely remember but if Rivers doesn't like him then that just cinches it for me!!

And the 3rd stringer for the Bears ought to be given a better look. He was the best QB the bears put on the field today.

I am just reiterating what every Bronco fan I know says. Every Bronco fan I know, every friend on facebook, were all posting and rooting for him to lose.

How mature is he when his entire team and half the country question whether he was really hurt or if he bailed so that the loss wouldn't be blamed on him? And his "no comment" answer when asked about his injury was the icing on the cake. He could have said "I tore my mcl" and all would have been fine. But he sat there and sulked and said "no comment."

Oh, and I do agree with you that McDaniels was absolutely awful!

OK I guess this thread was more germane than I anticipated. Last night certainly isn't going to help his reputation. I don't want to judge him on whether or not he was really injured, but from just an outside observer, it didn't look good, he was standing around, not helping the other QB with his reads. It seems at a minimum he could have helped the other QB. As someone mentioned, do you think Brett Favre would have come out of that game? I think the answer would be certainly not.

As mentioned I'm not a Bears fan, so its not a big deal to me, but I am wondering if most Bears fans are distraught, or "done" with this guy in their minds? As a Cowboys fan, we have our share of problems too, not like this exactly, different problems so I can sympathize.

Apparently, he did help Caleb Hanie, the third-string quarterback:

Hanie said Cutler gave him some advice on the sideline.


"He calmed me down a little bit, helped me out by saying 'Trust your line, trust your receivers, just go out and make throws. Don't try to do too much,'" Hanie said.

Not a Bears fan but married to one so I have a an unbiased opinion.
I *thought* I read that Cutler suffers from ADD which does affect his social skills somewhat.
Right now, when a knee injury is what removes you from a play off game and you are seen walking along the sidelines, the big *** enters in fan's minds. Usually you need to see wincing in pain, on his knees kinda stuff to validate that kind of game changing situation.I think that is the frustration of the moment. He does roll his eyes, but also does not say too much one way or the other which allows people to interject what they think he is thinking. He does not have a very good public speaking personality, usually a QB sort of has to project that leadership quality off the field as well as on and he drops the ball there. Brian Urlacher strikes me the same way...rarely smiles or jokes in an interview (and I think he IS arrogant) but he gets the job done and takes the leadership role.
Tough day at our house yesterday...1 Bears fan, 1 jets fan...as a Dolphins fan myself I feel their pain.

Boy, Jay is taking a lot of heat this morning! Mike & Mike on ESPN read some of the tweets from other NFL players. Jay is being ripped to shreds about not finishing the game.

I'm not going to question whether he was hurt or not. But I will say that once again, his demeanor did him in. He looked uninterested on the sidelines.

I have to say that I feel kind of bad for him this morning. I am listening to Espn Chicago radio and it isn't pretty what they are saying. There is no way that Jay is avoiding the chatter this morning.

An MCL does seem to be pretty serious IMO, but like some of the others said, he comes across so bad in the interviews, I think if he worked on that he probably wouldn't have a problem, he does not come across very sympathetic in the least and seems to do everything possible to make you dis-like him with his demeanor issues.

That being said I will not feel sorry for any of these guys, knowing they can retire today with 10 plus million in their bank accounts, so I'm not going to lose sleep feeling sorry for this guy.

You are absolutely right. It's the way that Jay carries himself that does him in every time. Someone really needs to explain that to him. Otherwise, he is going to have a cloud over him until the day he retires.

With that said, I still feel sorry for him. What can I say. I'm compassionate.

A reporter was just on the Jim Rome show talking about being in the bears locker room and hitting Jay with those questions, where he said afterwards he appeared to be visibly hurt and teary eyed that people (his piers) would think that about him.

The diva behavior must be a "character trait" not be limited to the press. Especially when your own teammates, your fellow NFL buddies question whether you are really hurt or not. They know him best and must have a reason for questioning whether the knee was really hurt or not.

That doesn't say much for Cutler's leadership ability on and off the field nor his supposed maturation since going to Chicago that a fellow Denverite claimed.

I have not seen where any of his teammates have questioned his injury. Could you please share links? I have read the comments form other players in the league, none of whom are probably his friends anyways.

I'm not sure where you heard this. Urlacher said just the opposite when he spoke to the media after the game last night.

“Jay was hurt,” Urlacher said.. “I don’t question his toughness. He’s one of the toughest guys on our — he’s tough as hell. He’s one of the toughest guys on our football team. He doesn’t *****, he doesn’t complain when he gets hit, he goes out there and plays his *** off every Sunday, practices every day. So, no, we don’t question his toughness.”
