We just returned from the June 1st-June 8th Alaskan cruise. We are a party of 6; Mom, Dad, and our 4 kiddos (21, 19, 17, 14). We booked 1 1/2 years ago. We had room 6108 (balcony) and 6109 (inside). They were in an excellent location. Easy to walk up 3 flights for food or down 1 or 2 flights for Parrot Cay or Animators. Movie Theatre was right under us.

We arrived at the port by 11. Customs took about 10 minutes but after that we waited and waited. I think we got on the ship close to 1. Went to lunch at Parrot Cay and only had to wait for a few minutes after that for our rooms.

We really just relaxed the first and second day. Watched movies, played ping pong, foosball, enjoyed the scenery.

Tracy Arm Day - so glad for our balcony. It was just beautiful! We did go up to the top deck to look at all of the beauty we were surrounded by. Words and pictures can not even describe it! Just amazing, breathtaking, majestic! It was so cold!

Skagway - we booked Chilkoot Charters privately. Bus up, train back. It was about 7 hours total. Brian, our bus tour guide, was great! Stopped at all of the photo stops plus more! He did a great job telling us about the area and the history. We did get lucky and saw a bear just snacking away on dandelions. I highly recommend Chilkoot Charters!

Juneau - rented a van from Juneau Rental Car so we could do Juneau on our own without being slave to bus schedules and tour schedules. Went to Mendenhall Glacier and hiked to Nugget Falls. It was a great hike there. I really could have stayed there all day. Then just drive around Juneau. Tons of Eagles!!! They were just lovely!

Ketchikan - we did not book anything in this port. We walked around Creek Street. Found a great private book store (Parnassis Books). Great staff and very helpful. It was too early in the season for salmon but it was still cool to see the creek and salmon ladder.

Last sea day - We had brunch at Palo's. It was a beautiful morning and we could see everything! Even a whale breaching! It was so funny because we heard applause and we thought someone had just been proposed to. Then everyone ran to the window (including the Palo staff, lol) and their the whale was just playing in the water. I think she breached like 4 more times! It was great! After brunch, it got really cloudy! Made it easier to pack up though.

Our cruise was simply a dream come true. It was cold and rainy for every port but that did not stop us from enjoying it. We saw humpbacks and orca whales, Eagles, porpoises and seals all from the ship. Bring binoculars for easier viewing. I highly recommend you bring layers. It is a much more casual cruise than the Caribbean cruises. Our son forgot his nice pants for formal night and had to wear jeans. He was still dressed nicely and nobody batted an eye.

One more thing, we stayed in Vancouver for 4 days before the trip. We stayed at Time Square Suites Hotel. It was an apartment style hotel (full kitchen, living room, bathroom AND laundry). This hotel exceeded my expectations! I highly recommend it! Taxi ride to port was around $8.00.

Please let me know if you have any questions! This cruise needs to be done by everybody! It is so different than the Bahama and Carribean cruises! We absolutely loved it!

Thank you for this summary. We leave tomorrow and get on the ship on Monday. So excited!!

We were right down the hall from you, 6138. I agree about the room condition, ours was in brand new condition. We only lasted about 15 minutes up on deck 10 for Tracy Arm and the rest of our time was on our Verandah. Way to cold

. How about the Frozen Party, how long did you last during it? We made it maybe 15~20 minutes and had to go. The wind, rain and cold were just to much and by that time I was coming down with a cold so I didn't want it to get any worse.

OMG, where's the LOVE button?!?! This was an EXCELLENT synopsis of your trip! Not too long and not too short. I'm sold! I'm contacting my TA now and moving my placeholder to an Alaska cruise for 2016! Thank you once again for this "trip report". I'm super excited to cruise this itinerary!

Thank you for your post! We are hoping to book Alaska for August 2016 while onboard our upcoming cruise. We would love a balcony but unfortunately with Alaska prices being so high already it's not in our budget :( will remember to bundle up for the upper decks if need be ;-)

If you don't mind sharing, how much were the rooms per night at Times Square Suites? I'm trying to look up availability and rates for May 2016; however, it's not showing rates available. Also, how far in advance did you book your hotel reservations?

Super excited...waiting to hear back from my TA!!!

We didn't actually go the Frozen party! No excuses or reason, we just didn't make it there! The only actual "Disney" thing we did was the trivia and movies, lol! We did watch some of the character parties in the lobby as we were walking by.

I contacted them via phone last summer because they did not post rates for that far in advance. They had no problem reserving my spot. I also wanted to make sure that we would get the 2 bedroom/2 bath unit. We did get that suite. It was two connecting apartments. We had two bedrooms, 2 sleeper sofas, 2 kitchens and two washer/dryer units, lol! The air conditioning units are only in the bedrooms but we never got hot at night in the other rooms because we had the fans circulating the air. We were also there in May so I don't know if this would be the case in July?

We were quoted $1,558 for those 4 days which was Canadian. It actually ended up being $1,244 American dollars.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Oops, that was for 4 nights.

Budgeting is wise! WE usually book our cruises as far out as possible so we can get two cabins by each other. This also helps to pay it off over a longer time.

The sun set around 10-10:15 at night and rose around 4 a.m.. An inside cabin could be a blessing!!! I hope that you are able to go!!! Inside cabin or not!

Thank you for the wonderful review! I also booked Chilkoot bus up train down - any feedback or tips from your experience? Did you do the dogsledding with them? I booked that thinking DGrD11 and DNiece14 would love it - and they both LOVE dogs, but don't live in places that allow pets. And the BBQ lunch also.
Could you hear the movie theater noise at all in your room?
We are getting so excited for our cruise!!!

The bus up was the right decision. The clouds hang low in the morning so the train ride down we were able to see more. Our picture of the Welcome to Alaska sign is hilarious. All you see is the sign. Surrounded by fog. It was truly an Alaskan day! It was so much clearer the closer we got to Emerald Lake.

The kiddos did the dogsled ride without us. Please know that this is a rolling cart - not an actual sled on the snow. The dogs were great. The dogs are definitely born to run and pull sleds. The puppies are in a large area so that you can go in and play with them. They were about 5-6 weeks old and just adorable!!! They also had the momma dog and some older dogs plus a golden retriever in the puppy area. You can buy 4 dog bones for a $1 to feed the dogs in this area. Your granddaughter and niece would love it!

Thanks for the mini trip report. I sent it to my DH because he would never have the patience to read through the extensive detailed ones. We both enjoyed reading it. One more month and we are on our way!

Ah...this one is on my to-do list!!! It sounds amazing!!! Thank you for sharing the details of your trip ;-)

We must have been sitting next to you :D

How was the noise from the theater?

Thanks for the review! Our best friends and our family will be in 6110 and 6111 next June! :)
