Grandparents are taking all the grandchildren to WDW and have booked with a package getting a two bedroom. My two children might be going back later and I would like them to get APs instead. How would this change the package if she booked everyone together? Can they just be removed from the ticket and dining portion, but still get FPbands and room keys since they'll be in the room? I'm guessing the meals she's already booked they can just be paid out of pocket?
    Thanks!

If they booked the package with tickets, all you need to do is go to Guest Relations and upgrade to an AP. I believe you can do that at the end of your stay. If you have a 5 day ticket and used them 10/1, then upgraded on 10/4 to an AP, the AP will have a start date of 10/1. You'd owe the difference between the 5 day ticket and AP.

Everyone staying in the same room has to have the same package. As the pp said, you could use the tickets on the package to upgrade to the AP. I think it would have to be done on-site within 14 days of first use of the tickets.

Man! I should have clarified, they'd have APs from a previous trip.

My parents are going for NYE and would like to take them, they aren't on a package. Room only and have already gotten their tickets thru Undercover.

Then other grandparents are going for spring break and have already booked everything on a package. It's a two bedroom.

Meanwhile, my husband and I would like to eventually get back down there, maybe next September. It would only make sense to get our kids APs for these three trips. Money is tight for us at the moment and APs for them sure would make sense.

So they can't stay in the two bedroom and get FP bands and room keys unless they're on the package, too?!?

If they have to wait and upgrade the tickets from the package can they get their DVC AP discount?

I don't know what would make more sense. Getting DVC APs on the first trip, just paying for the package on the second and going back on the third trip using the APs from the first trip?

OR paying for UT for first trip, upgrading tickets on second trip for third trip.

    My head is gonna explode.

About how much is an upgrade to AP from a five or six day ticket?

As far as I understand it, this is an accurate statement. It has been a few years since I have booked a trip with a mixed group of AP/non-AP in the same room.

Not sure on the rest of your questions, but on this one, they would have to upgrade before the end of the first trip. The upgrade has to be done within 14 days of first use, I believe.

If you book a package with tickets, everyone on the res has to have the same park tickets. I think the min is 2 day park tickets.

So if you have a trip with a package, see if they can drop the tickets to less days each. I don't believe the tickets have to be used by the specific person. And I've heard they are good as long as you do not use them. So a 2 day ticket on the KTTW card can be used at a later date as long as you save the key. You can't use 1 day and save the 2nd day for later. 2nd day expires 14 days from first use.

DVC discount applies when you upgrade at guest relations. You'll need your DVC card at that time. DVC annual is just shy of $500 http://allears.net/pl/apass.htm. 5 day ticket is $289, and $270 for under 9.

If you get the APs they can link them to the Magic Bands and not use the tickets from the package. You'll still have paid for the tickets and can use them another time.

Sorry, you have to do the math! The package may be better than RO w UT tickets, esp if you have free dining or no RO discount.

    Good luck :)
