AP Photopass vs Memory Maker

Still a bit confused on what is Photopass (included with new AP) vs Memory Maker?

Looking online, its unclear what Memory Maker adds (it states download all your photos without buying each one individually), but the new annual pass feature says you can download all your photopass photos.

Does Memory Maker include features photopass doesn't? Trying to specifically figure out if the ride photos, magic photos, and online editing (borders, etc) are available under the Annual Pass photopass feature or if you would still need to purchase Memory Maker to get those.

I thought MM includes adding borders, special effects, graphis and making the scrap book, where as the new AP photopass thing means you just get digital down loads of the actual pics without any extras.

It wouldn't bother me to lose the editing tools, but it would bother me if you didn't get the stock photos. Anyone know if you will still get them with the new AP photopass?

Agreed - I don't care about the editing or even the stock photos. Will the AP photopass include ride photos and be full resolution? Those are my big questions.

Just hopping on here. We haven't had an AP in years but we're arriving on Oct 29 with a Hopper that we'll upgrade on the first day. What exactly does that give us regarding photos and what's this about different levels of AP, gold platinum etc?

I did a search online and found a news article on the new color-coded annual pass system that Disney is introducing for the Disney World. Several levels include free PhotoPass downloads, which obviously means that you get your PhotoPass pictures for free. PhotoPass is just the photo-taking service - people who don't have an annual pass can get the Memory Maker and get all their PhotoPass photos for one set price, or they can buy individual pictures for $15 a piece. Magic shots and the ability to do edits don't have anything to do with getting Memory Maker - anyone who has a PhotoPass picture taken can get Magic shots and edit their pictures.

I do think the 365 expiration time frame is a huge benefit - plus being able to download other people's photos. I remain suspicious of the wording "certain digital content may not be available" but it actually sounds like this might be better than Memory Maker in terms of expiration dates.

I read the above, but I am still confused. I am thinking about upgrading my AP to the one that includes the PhotoPass, but not upgrading my kids APs. If they go on a ride without me, will I still be able to get those pictures (all of our bands are linked to my account)?

Because it's not Memory Maker, although for the most part, it does work like Memory Maker. The big difference is that with Memory Maker, it's pretty much only good for one trip. (I say pretty much because if you do two trips within 75 days, you can stretch it out to cover both.) The PhotoPass download perk however is good for the entire year that the AP is in effect. And again, PhotoPass is the photo-taking service, so saying AP with PhotoPass makes it sound like you can't use PhotoPass unless you get one of the levels of AP that includes the free downloads.

Hope someone can clear this up. We'll be upgrading 9 day hoppers we got from UT, got our bands already, on Oct 29. All we want is an AP that will allow us to enter WDW parks for the next year, we're planning on an early Oct '16 trip and maybe something in March. Will we get some photo option and, if so, do we download them and have them or are they just for viewing on a site somewhere? The pics are not something we'd pay extra for but if they're a benefit, I'll take them.

Agree with general sentiment -- Memory Maker is effectively the same thing as PP Download. At one point they were two separate products, and PP Download was actually cheaper than MM -- but at that time MM included physical copies of dining photos and digital downloads of ride photos which PP Download did not. Now, physical copies of dining photos have gone the way of the dodo and ride photos are automatically added to PhotoPass (before you had to have MM to add them), so effectively MM has become PhotoPass Digital Download (which, coincidently they no longer sell). So, my opinion is it's the same *service* just PP Download is included with AP; MM is available for purchase.

Both levels of annual pass that are available to non-Florida residents (one includes admission to the water parks, ESPN Wide World of Sports complex and Disney's Oak Trails golf course, while the other one doesn't) include free PhotoPass downloads. Anyone who gets a picture taken by a PhotoPass photographer can view their PhotoPass pictures for free on the PhotoPass website.

The editing tools can be gotten online through dozens of free programs, and the ride photos aren't really a big deal to me at least because they are something I only ever wanted one copy of, which I got long ago.

I don't personally want or need ten almost identical pictures of me on Tower of Terror, but in my case the free photopass downloads save me $125. or more for memory maker each trip and I take at least four trips on site per year.
That's a huge savings, and with a Gold annual pass I only give up the backout dates in March and December, during which times you couldn't pay me to go to disney with the crowds.. Actually the Gold annual pass will cost me less per month than my current Florida Resident annual pass, so I'll save over $500. per year by getting the free photopass benefit with my renewal. Even if I didn't want he blackout dates, the $250. per year extra that it would cost me for my and my girlfriends annual passes for the platinum is much less that the $500. + that I would spend on memory maker over four onsite trips.. So I'll take the blackout dates, and save myself over $500. per year..

I already purchased a Memory Maker for trip at end of month, BUT have to renew AP on first day there, wonder how that is going to be handled?

Am I viewing this wrong? Photopass is the service of photos and ride photos/videos. Memory Maker is just a package deal to download your images. You can get your photopass photos and videos without memory maker if you pay so this service should just be downloading your media with no additional fee.

I've never 1 off purchased any photos or videos, is the process different when you do it with memory maker?
