I'd really LOVE to see everyone's playlists for music for the 1/2 marathon or marathon. It is time for me to weed out my slower stuff and put together a very upbeat playlist.

Here are some of my favorites:
Scooter -- Move your A$$
Rent -- from the Rent soundtrack
Today for U, Tomorrow for Me -- from the Rent Soundtrack
Let's Get it Started

I have an awesome collection and will post more later, but would love to start a running thread here (excuse the pun! :teeth: ) that we can all reference in the next week or so.

Great post Cam! I'll add some of my fave songs when I get home from work tonight. Just stopped in for a quick visit now!

Terri

My fave has to be Right Now from Van Halen, I find it a real motivator.

suscribing to thread for ideas.
Planning to buy the soundtrack for TopGun for a couple of their songs. Also some Stomp if possible.

I don't have set playlists...everything's just on the MP3 player. Some things I've liked for training:

Livin' La Vida Loca by Ricky Martin
Get the Party Started by Pink
Footloose by Kenny Loggins
Love Shack by B52s
Home by Marc Broussard

Great thread!!

I need to load my music also for both the half and the full. My husband is a DJ so I have no excuse not to have loads to choose from. I never run with music but as soon as I get some on my IPod, I will post my fave selections.

One more that's fairly new...Pon de Replay by Rihana

Great idea, Cam!

When I'm at home I'll look at my playlist on the computer and post it here... well, I'll post most of it, I'm not sure I'm brave enough to admit to the whole thing

I know what you mean! Can't believe I wrote "move your a$$". Some of the European lyrics are a bit racy. Then again, so is "La Vie Boheme" from Rent. WHEW!!!

My play list for the marathon is about 80 songs, so I'll just list some of what I listen to. I like different kinds of music, but am partial to country. I've listed mostly the upbeat, faster paced songs, but also some I have sprinkled in that I use for motivation.

Faster-paced:
Love Shack (B-52's)
Livin on a Prayer (Bon Jovi)
Sold (John Michael Montgomery)
Born to Fly (sara Evans)
Little Red Rodeo (Collin Raye)
Thank God I'm a Country Boy (John Denver)
Devil Went Down to Georgia (Charlie Daniels)
Glory Days (Springsteen)
Sk8er Boi (Avril Lavigne)
Beer Run (Garth Brooks)
Sweet Home Alabama (Skynyrd)
Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride (from Lilo & Stitch)
Supercalifragilistic (from Mary Poppins)

for motivation:
Live Like You Were Dying (Tim McGraw)
Lean on Me
I'm Alright (JoDee Messina)
Happy Girl (Martina McBride)
It's a Great Day to be Alive (Travis Tritt)
Hakuna Matata
Zip a Dee Doo Dah
I'm a Believer (Smash Mouth)
All Star (Smash Mouth)

This is something I haven't even thought about. In getting ready for packing, etc I need to update my MP3. I am sick of what's on there now.

Keep up the suggestions. I can use all the help I can get with this.

I hadn't even thought about Disney songs. Thats a great idea. I have a couple of those CD's. I love Hilary Duff's version of Tiki Room. Makes you want to move.

Great lists, I so need to update my iPod.

Cam - don't worry about racy. I have a alot of Nelly & Eminem on mine I always hope nobody can over hear when I run.

msblrobs - my son DJ's great idea I should have him update, god knows what I will hear during the race!!

So where does everyone go to dowload their music? I have never downloaded any, so far just used what I had on CD.

Sunny-where can I get me some of that Scooter you've been talking about?
I dont have an Ipod, just a regular MP3

I am so sick of what's on my MP3 I have to update it before we leave.

I have alot of Ricky Martin on mine:
Shake your bon bon
Cup of life (great lyrics & gets you moving)

I dont remember who sings it but the theme song from FAME (I'm gonna live forever, I'm gonna learn how to fly....) those lyrics apply to us doing this race.

Its a complicated process thanks to all the proprietary formatting! When I buy music from iTunes (I don't have an iPod) I burn a CD (regular CD format), then I record that CD into my mp3 players software which converts it to the format my player can play (in my case its the Sony Altrac format). Its a real pain in the neck.

My other solution is Napster. I have a Naptser To GO account which costs $14.95 per month and allows unlimited downloads. The music will only play as long as you stay a current subscriber and you have to purchase a compatible player. Right now they are offering a 1GB player for $50 as a promo. But, some of the music is still "purchase only". Most of Scooter and other music I download is free under the monthly subscription.

lose my breath (destiny's child)
groove master (from cutting edge)
head over heels (the go-gos)
maniac (michael sambello, from flashdance)
miracles happen (from princess diaries)

well, that is it. I really have to refine it and re-organize it. A lot of the songs speak to me with something more than just the beat. "seasons of love" talks about how to measure a year. Since the 1/2 is a year and a day after my heart surgery, this one reminds me of making the most of every day. Others are for pure energy -- like "toxic" or "maniac" and others, like scooter, are for the energy that comes from friendship and support I have found here. Something as simple as sharing a playlist or as sending someone a PM to encourage them on a bad day after a stonker!

Thanks guys, for everything! Can't wait to see everyone moving their a$$ on the big day(s)! :cool1: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

while I was adding music to my iPod. It's by Melissa Etheridge, called "I Run for Life". I thought it was appropriate for our board.

The documentation says that music is discouraged. But, I rely pretty heavily on it. Is it common for runners to bring music with them?
