Just curious if anyone has been blessed with a free upgrade lately?
On our last stay at the end of September, we were upgraded from a GV room at the Poly to a Castle View.
Cool. Did you request it or did they just tell you when you were checking in? What time did you check in?

We requested Somoa for the pool since it was July 4th weekend and we have 4 kids. We were assigned tahiti (i think that was the name - on the beach closest to the T&TC. When she first showed us where it was we were bummed until we walked over and realized they'd upgraded us to a castle view. it was great except that is was torture on the kids since we arrived on 7/1 and our first park day wasn't until 7/4.
We were upgraded in August. I knew of the upgrade 5 days before we went though when they sent the email confirmation to us (we had booked room only). I noticed the email said we were staying in an outer lodge standard room Club level. I thought it must have been a mistake because I booked garden view! I asked on the Disboards what this meant, and someone had to tell me that we received a little pixie dust before our arrival!
I have heard of people saying they asked if there were any upgrades at check in (it doesn't hurt to ask, and we always ask...the worst they can say is no). We always ask when we go to Vegas, and we almost always get something just for asking!
We checked in around 12:30 or 1:00. Our CM noted that we'd requested Tokelau, and I said yes, I'd done some research and it seemed to be the best GV location. He asked if I minded if he put us in a room he thought was good, and I told him "you work here, you'll know better than me!". And just like that, Castle View!!!
We were there Oct 23-27 and received a free upgrade from Pt. Orleans to Old Key West.
I'm hoping to be blessed upon check-in in three weeks!!!!

We check in on the Nov 22nd for a week at AKL and they only had pool view when I made the ressie. I called a while back and tried to upgrade to savanna view but she said there were no rooms available in the package I had for savanna view. They may be fully booked because it is Thanksgiving Week! I think I will ask when we check in what the cost would be to upgrade.
heres just hoping for a room at the poly close to the ttc so when we go to the studios and animal kingdom it is not a long walk
we are are just glad to be able to afford a deluxe with the monarail this year
it will be out last trip to the world for a few years
so I am glad it is a special resort

As for the timing of the holiday, we arrive the Sunday after and I'm hoping that lots of guests are heading back home, freeing up that great upgrade for me!!
We stayed at the Poly over Columbus Day week and we paid for a garden view room. At check it we were told they had a great surprise for us and said that we were upgraded to consierge level in the Hawaii building with a castle view! It was such a great surprise. The Sangria drinks in the evening and the chocolate chip cookies were the best!!!!
We have 5-days to go until we check in at AKL.
We've booked a standard room but we're arriving quite late (7pm ish) so I'm hoping it won't be busy at check in and I will feel brave enough to ask for an upgrade.
I was thinking of saying "please can we have your nicest possible standard room - this is my baby's first holiday and I want it to be very special" (I'm 16 weeks pregnant!!!)
But as much as it would be amazing, we are just so happy to be going back we would happily sleep in the savannah with the animals!!!
In ten trips we've been upgraded three times.
January 2007 - we booked Poly gv and were upgraded to Poly TPV.
July 2008 - we booked standard BC room and were upgraded to CL.
October 2008 - we booked standard YC room and were upgraded to CL.
I would never, ever ask for an upgrade. I think that would take away the
"pixie dust". When it happens it truly is magical, otherwise we're satisfied with the room we booked.
Just the opposite- I got a downgrade.
I hope they gave u money back
I'm checking in on the same day. From what I've heard it's going to be very busy. There are no rooms currently available. So I'm not counting on an upgrade. Good thing I've paid extra for a king bed.
In September, we were upgraded from standard to savannah view at AKL. It was wonderful!
Why did you get downgraded?
Not while at the resort (we ended up switching resorts due to frustration with the entire situation, though we did have to spend 2 nights there), but when we got home after much aggravation and a few phone calls.
They bumped us down because they thought we had booked the only category available just to get a room. They bumped us down without notifying us or asking. It wasn't even mentioned at check in. It wasn't until I went in the room that I saw it wasn't what we booked and paid for. (we were on a package so it was paid for in advance)
