Day 2
Wednesday 23rd September 2015
Part 1 – Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!
So you know I said I set my alarm for 7am?
Well, that must have been programmed to be specifically 7am UK time… and my alarm thought it was appropriate to start mooing like a cow at 2am.
After a super long day yesterday I was in a really deep sleep, so I was not impressed.
But then I remembered I’m in Disney, and all was right in the world.
I woke up again naturally at 6:10am!
I got ready and went out on the balcony to see the sunrise over the Contemporary
(Phone picture, unfortunately.)
I finished getting ready and I woke Jamie up at 7:30am.
It was a beautiful morning at the Polynesian!
Today we were heading to the Magic Kingdom!!!
Of course!!!
It was looking a little cloudy over there.
But who’s complaining?
NOT ME.
I am as happy as a clam.
Whatever that means.
(Side note: Me being me, I got hair product all over the shoulder of this white top which left a big mark, so I changed it before leaving the room – in case anyone notices that I’m in a different top in the park
)
We headed to the lounge at 8am for breakfast!
The lounge has some great breakfast options, there was cereal, hot oatmeal, fresh fruit, bagels, mini muffins, croissants, cinnamon rolls, etc etc.
You can help yourself to as much as you want, and it’s all built into the price of the room!
Jamie had some cereal and I had a bagel with Philadelphia.
We enjoyed it!
Here’s the view from our table in the lounge!
After breakfast we ran back to the room to pack some sunscreen, then headed to the MONORAIL.
On the walk over to the Great Ceremonial House there was a very smart family passing.
The little boy (probably 4 or 5 years old) was wearing a little white shirt and bowtie, and as we passed them he looked up at us and went,
“HIIII!!!!”
My heart melted completely! He was SO cute and polite.
I considered this our first magical moment of the day.
We arrived at the monorail platform at 8:20am.
OMG it was taking ages!!!
And by ages I mean, like 15 minutes, but I was getting angsty because I really wanted to catch the welcome show, which can start as early as around 8:40am.
Our monorail finally arrived and we were on the move at 8:35am.
HURRRRYYYYY.
With the stop at the Grand Floridian I was sure we’d miss the start.
But to my delight it had waited for me!!!!
Second magical moment.
We passed through bag check and the show started right away!
But DEAR LORD, it was crazy busy.
Like, as soon as we got through the tapstiles there was just a wall of people.
I would bet they had to stop letting people in during the show, because there was literally nowhere to go.
Here's what it looked like...
We squeezed through, but the only spot we could find was…
BEHIND A GIANT TRAIN-STATION-SHAPED TREE.
It was actually quite funny.
And the actual show was visible so it’s fine.
I was just glad we arrived in time!
OBSESSED WITH THIS.
This is one of my favourite things at Disney, especially on the first day of the trip, so I’m really glad it all worked out.
Since I love it so much, here’s a little video.
The show ended at about 8:50am and we were released into the park!
We’re home!!!!
WELCOME WELCOME WELCOME.
Gahh I can’t believe it had been over a year since I’d seen this glorious castle!
This was our first time seeing the new grass areas in the hub, so I was excited about that!
I really like what they’ve done to the hub, I think it was worth the construction.
Although Jamie asked the mystery question...
What used to be there?
...

We usually start our first day going straight over to Splash Mountain, i.e. my favourite thing in the world ever.
But I was feeling generous, so I let Jamie choose our first destination.
If you read my last trip report you will know exactly where he chose!
Hey Buzz buddy!!!!
Long time no see!!!
Buzz: I AM SICK OF THE SIGHT OF THESE PEOPLE.
* Eye twitch *

Jamie is super competitive, and last year we were always competing to max out our score (999,999).
He was pretty horrified by our scores as we left the FIRST room..!!

(The contrast in our concentration faces is quite amusing. Jamie is always quite animated, whereas I’m always really gormless
)
We didn’t come close to 999,999, but this wasn’t bad for our first game of the trip!!
I tried to project this encouragement onto Jamie, but he was too busy giving me his usual response to losing…
Jamie’s competitiveness doesn’t stop at the ride itself.
In the photo/gift shop area after the ride, I always like to get a photo in the cage with Zurg.
Jamie has never been able to fit through the bars, but because he’s THAT competitive, he HAS to try.
Well this year...
THIS HAPPENED.

Yay!
He was very happy.
What a great accomplishment for a 25 year old man
When I was taking his picture, a nice couple offered to take one of both of us.
We returned the favour (they both squeezed into the cage too!), then decided to ride one more time!
Jamie was adamant that I'd had “the good seat”, and he was sure he would beat me if he sat on the left this time…
Ding dang!!!!
He did great!
Here’s another gormless ride photo, just for laughs.
Jamie wasn’t taking any risks of having his title taken away from him, so we left Buzz and headed back out into the park!
