    Anyone watch it?

So, what do you think of the pre-op in the competition? It cracks me up how catty some of the girls were getting, I think they're mad 'cause "he" is better looking than some of them :happytv:

There's a pre-op! Wow! And yes, I've seen plenty of them that will always be hotter than me.

I watched!! Actually I forgot it was on but luckily my handy DVR remembered so I was able to watch the whole thing.

I work in the LGBT Healthcare education & advocacy field professionally...so issues of visibility, inclusion, representation, equality, etc. are very near and dear to my heart. So I absolutely LOVE the fact that they've allowed Isis (the trans cast member) to be on the show---and that she's doing well so far.

I am also extremely impressed that the show has elected to bring onboard a trans person who isn't probably mainstream America's perception of trans people. I think much of America's view of trans women has a very "drag queen" connotation (big chest, lots of make-up, big hair, flamboyant appearance & behavior----which is all fun but not necessarily representative of all trans women)----even several of the nasty other girls kept referring to Isis as a "drag queen" which she CLEARLY is not---so I was impressed that the show has found someone whose body/face has not (yet at least) been dramatically surgically altered and who is able to be open and honest about who she is and comfortable in her own skin. I think it's also kind of exceptional that they highlighted how they found her----at an urban homeless shelter last cycle---since it says something powerful about some of the unfortunate life realities that all too many trans people are forced to face in our culture.

I'm cautiously optimistic that this show will give Isis an opportunity to give a very mainstream voice to so many voiceless young trans people.

Was she the one who posed in the "Homeless" photos last cycle? I missed that part and only caught the photo, and if so she was AMAZING looking. It was funny because in that photo she looked better than the girl it was for! :rotfl:

Yes, she posed in the photo last cycle. And she is the only one that actually responded well to Nigel's questions about finding the right position in photos to use the light.

I thought it was funny that the one that approached all the judges with the "Hi, I AM America's Top Model!" was was one sent home, and took the worst pictures.

Yes that was her. Apparently for that photo shoot last cycle they actually used people who were residents in the shelter they were showcasing...and you're right she looked fantastic in the photos. So in last night's episode they show Tyra talking about how striking she had thought Isis was in the background of those photos and had commented that she wanted that girl to try out for ANTM and that's when they told her---"That girl is a little 'special'".....and then Tyra went ahead and recruited her to be a part of the show.

But your'e right...she did look amazing in those photos last cycle....and she looked amazing in her photos last night, too. She kind of reminds of Jaslene---the winner from a few cycles ago who I always thought a slightly androgenous (sp?) look to her face, as well.

Some of those ladies were making me sick with their comments. I'm sure even in AK there are some pre- and post-op trans.

The post about the ladies calling Isis a drag queen reminded me of a work-related story. I work retail, clothing. A coworker was talking about a cross dresser that came in, full female outfit, and wanted to try on some clothes. The coworker, recognizing that the guest was in drag, at first was confused; send her to the men's side or the women's side? She finally decided to send the customer into the non-gender handicapped stall. After the coworker related the story to a few of us, she turned to me and asked: "Buck, which side do you use when you try clothes on?" I very politely explained to her that not all gay men wear women's clothing, and in fact MOST cross dressers are hetero.

"When a straight man puts on womens clothing to get his kicks, he is a transvestite. When a man is a woman trapped in a mans body and gets the little operation, he is a transexual. When a gay man has way too much fashion sense for one gender, he is a drag queen!"

i only caught a bit of it, but i wanted to reach through the tv when the two blondes from the south referred to her as a he/she.
i think it's great that tyra has her on the show, as well as being so LGBT friendly in general

I think Tyra will make a point of keeping her on the show for a long time just to piss off the ignorant girls. Those girls need to learn that if they are going to make it in the fashion industry they can't afford to make the gays angry.

As a trans woman, I was especially hesitant. Tyra made be great and all, but she did up and ask Isis if she was pre-op or post-op as her second question to her, and it's never ok to ask someone about their genitals like that. I don't know how the producers are gonna handle the issue in coming episodes, but it looks like many of the bigots in the first were already voted out.
Let's not forget there is also a lesbian on the show too! I forget her name.

No no no, that's explains SOOO much right now that I can't even mention it.

On the show: I'm not happy I missed the first episode, but I am THRILLED that dern skinny butt girl got voted out, I did not like her one bit. And who's going to go around saying, I might pee a little, I really have to go, but if I do it's for you. I mean can you imagine someone saying that before a job interview. OMG! LOL.
