Do a lot of Disney cruises miss Tracey Arm? Just booked and now I am hearing we will probably not be able to make it.

We couldn't go up Tracey Arm so we went up Endicot (sp?) Arm instead.

Really? I've never heard that. We went last year and it was a lovely day.

When are you cruising? We went in August and had the most wonderful day slowly cruising Tracy Arm.

June 10th is our sail date. I'm reading some of the reports here on Disboards and it's leaving me conflicted.

We cruised to Alaska the last week of July 2012. According to our captain he said that we had the most beautiful day he had ever seem going through Tracy Arm. It was absolutely beautiful!!! My 10 year old son sat in the hot tub... People were sun bathing!!! We had friends who took the same cruise in June and were unable to go to Tracy Arm.

From what I understand some of the earlier sailings in May have experienced too much ice to get through safely

You should be OK in June though :)

I did the DCL Alaskan Cruise in July 2011(July 12) and we couldn't do Tracy Arm. There was too much fog and the captain knew before he started in that other ships were going to Endicott Arm instead. He went a little ways in and then told us we were going to Endicott Arm and Dawes Glacier. We spent about an hour near the glacier with him repositioning the ship so everyone could see. It was fabulous, we were almost right on top of the glacier.

The crew said that we were the first DCL cruise that season that hadn't done Tracy Arm. However, they said that the ship never gets as close to Sawyer Glacier as we did to Dawes.

I guess you'll have to just wait and see. Although I want to see Sawyer Glacier, I didn't feel jipped that I saw Dawes instead. The scenery on the way there was astounding and I can say I saw a glacier!

We also went to Endicot Arm on the 7/26/11 cruise. There was too much fog at Tracy Arm for us to enjoy it. The captain made the decision at the point where you can either turn to go to one or the other. It was a beautiful day, and we did get a lot closer than I have seen pictures posted from Tracy Arm. I heard the reanger saying that we would be going to see Dawes Glacier instead early in the day, but many people didn't hear that. You had to be outside or have your TV turned to a certain channel to hear it inside your stateroom. Most people on our cruise meet thread were posting pictures and talking about how beautiful Tracy Arm was. Until a couple of us pointed out that we hadn't gone there, they had no idea. I didn't feel that we missed out on anything.

Sailed the inaugural Alaskan cruise on 5/3/11 and we made it all the way up Tracy Arm. It was an overcast and cold day but oooooh so beautiful!

I was on the May 21st cruise with Chilly last year (Hi, Chilly!!! :wave2:) and we thought Endicott Arm was spectacular! We came so close to the glacier and it was stunning.

So, even if you don't make it to Tracy Arm, don't worry - you're still going to see a marvelous sight! (oh, and watch for the seals on the ice floats!)

We went to Tracy Arm on our cruise in May 2011. I believe the sailing date was May 24th. We had great weather that day actually the majority of the cruise.

I'm confused. Where did you hear that you won't be able to go to Tracey Arm on your cruise this summer?

As with any cruise, it's possible to miss a port because of many reasons. In Alaska, weather is a big reason for missing a port/scenic tour.

We were on that same cruise!! It was amazing! Could not believe how close we got to the glacier!! Loved zipping by those other cruise lines' big ships that could not get through. Love the size of the classic ships!!

When booking a balcony which side would be better to enjoy the glaciers?

The ship will turn several times to allow all sides to see.

We've always done our viewing from the upper decks, that way you can cross back and forth and have a much larger view of the scenery. And wildlife viewing may or may not be on your side of the ship when visible.
