Thank you :) It was such an amazing moment and I'm so glad we have such wonderful photos of it.

Wedding Day: Part 3

After our first look, we made our way over to our ceremony location, the Rose Court Garden.

Some of our family members were lurking around and mobbed us to ooo and ahhh over us before our day of coordinator, Herta, and our wedding planner, Michiel, told them to go take a seat so everything could get started. At this point, it was just Diana and I standing there with our parents and my cousin getting ready to walk down that aisle. I was about to explode from excitement. We were finally getting married after waiting so many years, clinging to the edge of our seats as all the legal cases wound their way through the court system and wondering when or if our marriage would be legally recognized nationally. We were both in shock and so overwhelmed that this moment was finally here for us. As we stood there, trying to take in the moment, our wedding planner turned to us and offered us both a glass of water saying, "This is the last drink you will take as a single person. After this, the next drink you have, you will be married." It was one of the best glasses of water I have ever had.

Now that everyone had taken their seat, Diana and I had drank our water, it was time to get the ceremony going. Michiel and Herta organized our parents and my cousin while Diana and I stood there listening to the string quartet marveling over how beautiful they sounded. Once everyone was in line and ready to go, someone (I can't remember if it was Michiel, Herta, or one of the media handlers) gave the quartet the cue to start playing Tarzan's "You'll be in My Heart." The quartet finished up the song they were playing and then started in our parent's song. Someone gave our parents the cue and they started walking. I was basically bouncing up and down at this point because IT WAS FINALLY HAPPENING!!! And then I had to stop because I remembered I wasn't supposed to do that with my head lol. Our fathers failed one by one to make the correct turn down the aisle and cut the corner, but they made it down the aisle. Then our mothers took their turn, flawlessly executing the turn down the aisle.

And then someone cued my cousin and he started walking too while "You'll be in My Heart was playing." Oops. Somehow the signals got crossed and someone forgot that my cousin was walking down to the song after the one for our parents.

As soon as he reached his spot, "Heffalumps and Woozles," the song we wanted him to walk in to started playing. At this point Michiel and Herta looked at us because they knew that wasn't our song and I had to be like "Uhhh Mikey was supposed to walk in to this and not the same song as our parents..." Again, they had someone cue the quartet to stop that song and start in on the bride's song. Then we heard our song start!!

We heard the start of "Kiss the Girl" and just looked at each other super excited. It sounded absolutely perfect. The quartet was absolutely spectacular. Finally, it was our turn. We walked to the center of the aisle, turned, and started down the aisle slooooooowly. Probably too slowly, but we just did not want this moment to end too quickly!

Once we reached the end of the aisle, just as the song was reaching the height of the chorus, we handed off our bouquets to my cousin and stepped up the stairs of the gazebo (nearly tripping over our dresses), and met our officiant to be married!

The ceremony itself was just spectacular. Alan, our officiant, crafted a ceremony that was so unique and so personal to us. He even managed to make it a little funny, just like us. At one point, he was describing our relationship and our love story using Michael Jackson song titles since we went to see Michael Jackon's This Is It for our first official date. He really managed to engage the audience while performing our ceremony, so it genuinely felt like everyone was in the moment with us.

Before we knew it, Alan was pronouncing us "Wifeys for lifey" (because during our planning sessions we told him we could not wait to be wifeys for lifey) and it was time to head back up that aisle, now officially as the Mrs. Forero-Cooks!!! We're married AHHH!!!!

We waited for the guests to clear out of our ceremony location to head to the cocktail hour so we could do some family pictures. I really wish we had been able to get the family pictures before the ceremony because at this point, I was so deliriously happy that all I could do for pictures was stare into the camera like a deer in headlights with this stupid grin on my face for the vast majority of pictures. Most of our family pictures look ridiculous with my very special facial expression haha. Thankfully, they were not the only family photos we got that night, so we have some great ones from when I was a little more composed later.

Once family photos wrapped up, our parents headed to the cocktail hour while we went to see our reception space. It was just stunning. We walked into the Sleeping Beauty Pavilion and were absolutely blown away with the gorgeous drapping from the ceiling, how our tables had come together with the books, the amazing bar, the tress, etc. It was at this point our planner Michiel pulled us aside and brought us to the cake. She then told us that the pastry team could not execute our cake design as we had contracted them (and like they had told us they could execute), so instead of making it look like film reels were coming unwound from the top tier down the cake, they simply wrapped film reels around the base of the cake. I'm a little disappointed now that they had promised us one thing and rather than making sure it could be executed, they just said yes they could execute the design only to find out that no, they could not. Our cake did not look nearly as nice and put together as I was expecting, but in that moment I didn't care because it was good enough and nothing that could be done at that point (as long as it still tasted amazing!).

After the cake, we went to practice dancing for our first dance for a couple of minutes. Two floor length dresses with full skirts are no joke to negotiate! I am so glad that we took your suggestions about practicing Kathi!! They were super helpful and we definitely felt a lot more confident in the dresses than we would have had we not taken your suggestions. We didn't step on each other's dresses too much! Once we felt reasonably confident we were not going to destroy each others dresses or toes, our photographers took us around the hotel for all kinds of pictures while the guests finished up the cocktail hour and were sat for the reception.

Before we knew it, it was time for us to walk back into our reception space and have our first dance! The doors to the Sleeping Beauty Pavilion opened, we strolled in hand-in-hand while our DJ announced us and made our way to the dance floor as he started our song, Jimmy Durante's "Glory of Love." We took our positions and began to dance. Everything was going so smooth, so fantastic! Diana was a little nervous, but we were getting through it, and we were dancing our first dance! Then I saw something fly down and land on Diana's face. I realized it was a bee! What did I do you ask? Did I help my brand new wife by gently brushing it off her face and moving to a different part of the dance floor? Kindly alert her to what was going on so she could take care of it herself? No. I grabbed my skirts, and ran away. As far from her as I could get on the dance floor. Oops. People were confused, wondering what was going on. I could barely compose myself and all I could do is stand and point. Diana, brushed it off her face and it landed on her chest. So she brushed it again and it landed on the floor. At this point, I realized maybe I should not have abandoned her like that and tentatively moved back with the intent to somehow destroy it. However, my assistance was not necessary. Once that bee was on the floor, Diana gathered her skirts and with an epic stomp, demolished the bee. We then resumed our dance and finished it out, on the lookout for more bees. For us it is apparently "Until death do us part, or bees."

Next up: Finishing the reception!

I managed to upload a video a friend took of our very special first dance if anyone wants to see the hilarity :)

I just DIED when I heard your story on the podcast because I would have done the EXACT same thing!! I am absolutely terrified of bees/wasps/hornets etc, and so you are so not alone in that :D The video makes it all the better, I'm so glad someone recorded it so you have this freaking hilarious moment!

Have I mentioned just how lovely your photos are? Because they are simply stunning! You don't see enough evening outdoor weddings and your ceremony venue simply sparkled.

Thank you so much!! We are so pleased with how nicely the photos came out. We were so worried about the night shots, and we think they turned out pretty alright :) I'm glad others think so as well haha.

Yeah that bee. Who gets attacked in their wedding dress IN DECEMBER?! Indoors and at night no less!! The moment ultimately yielded a very funny moment for us though.

Wedding Day: Part 4/Castle Shoot: Part 1

After our eventful first dance, it was finally time to welcome our guests and eat! I had every intention of writing our a nice little speech to welcome our guests, but it was something I was struggling with and it just fell off my radar with everything going on. Thus, Diana and I came up with something on the fly, and in our videos, it is not so bad. I still wish I had remembered to write it down so I could have said something a little more thoughtful. Once our guests were officially welcomed, it was time to sit down at our sweetheart table and get the party started! After our tasting session, I had been dreaming of our meal and I was so excited it was finally here. It did not disappoint! Our plated meal exceeded our expectations and it was just divine. Our salad was scrumptious and our mushroom stack is something I would eat every night if I could. So. good. While we were eating and sitting at the sweetheart table taking everything in, a bunch of our guests started approaching the sweetheart table and wanting pictures with us. I honestly found this a little overwhelming and stressful. While we did get some great photos out of it, people did spend A LOT of time chatting with us and it made it difficult for us to get around the room and greet all our guests. If I had known this was something that happened at weddings, I would have prepared our DJ to requests guests to stay in their seats and wait for us to come around so it was a little less chaotic. I'm just crossing my fingers none of my guests thought we were ignoring them or didn't want to talk to them because we could not disengage from the guests at the sweetheart table.

Once we had completed our dinner and spent some time talking with guests and getting pictures, it was time for our father daughter dance! Diana and I elected to do our father daughter dance together, and it worked really well. My dad was so emotional during the dance! He was so happy for Diana and me. I'm really glad we elected to do the dance with our dads because it was one of the few moments I really got with my dad over the night, and he has just done so much for Diana and me that it was nice to have that special moment with him. As soon as we finished the dance with our dads, the DJ opened up the floor for the dancing to begin! For us, the DJ was something that could make or break our reception. He did not disappoint! He had everyone up and dancing! Our dance floor was packed. Everyone was having a fantastic time working off all of that delicious food, which was good because the cake was coming!

For our cake cutting we had a special guest join us. Donald Duck! He came out in all his waddling Donald glory and helped us cut into our delicious cake, and then took some special pictures with us and my cousins on the dance floor. My grandfather was responsible for my first trip to Disneyland as a toddler, and thus starting the Disney addiction. Growing up, he had the most amazing Donald Duck voice and used to tuck me in at night when I visited him using that voice. He passed away 10 years ago, so having Donald join us at the wedding was like having a little piece of my Grandpa there with us.

After cake it was back to dancing and partying it up! Our DJ KILLED it. We had so much fun dancing with all our guests. Then it was time for Mickey and Minnie! We kept Mickey and Minnie a surprise for our guests, so the room was super excited when they came in. Everyone wanted photos with them and us. They're there for a 30 minute set, and I'm pretty sure we pushed the 30 minute mark with all the demand for pictures. It was great! I love having all the photos of us, Mickey and Minnie, and our guests.

Look at all the white dresses!

Many of our guests left after Mickey and Minnie since it was a Sunday night, but the rest who stayed enjoyed our fabulous dessert and more dancing! It was great. We had so much fantastic dancing at our wedding. Before we knew it, the reception was over and it was time to say goodbye. This was the worst part of the night! We loved our wedding so much and we were so sad it was over! Thankfully, we still had our castle shoot the next morning (super, super early) and that gave us something to focus on and look forward to.

By the time we got back to our room and settled, it was already after midnight and our hair and makeup person was going to be showing up at 4 AM to get us ready for the castle shoot :O Thank god hair and makeup can work miracles because we were not going to be looking our natural best after less than 4 hours of sleep.

4 AM came way too quickly. We got all prettied up again and back into our dresses (and heels). I should note, I am very stubborn and was determined to stay in my heels for our entire reception. I wore my heels from about 4:30 PM until about 12 AM. This was definitely not the best life decision. My poor feet were so mad. However, I didn't want to step all over the hem of my dress (anymore than Diana already did), so I sucked it up and stuffed my feet back into the heels for the castle shoot. Once we were dressed and ready, we met our photographer and cinema team member downstairs in the lobby to wait to be picked up for the shoot!

We were all so excited (and so tired). The Disney cast member showed up right around 6 to retrieve us and carted us off to Disneyland. For any of you familiar with the Disneyland resort, we were picked up right inside the main lobby of the Disneyland Hotel and escorted to a large golf cart right outside near the valet. The trip took us down the road by Paradise Pier Hotel and across to the Grand Californian where we took a behind the scenes tour through the inner workings of the resort to DCA, through the back alleys of DCA and into backstage of Disneyland before we emerged right near the Plaza Inn/Tomorrowland to start our castle shoot.

The shoot itself was fabulous! We started shortly before 6:30AM and ended right before the ropes dropped for the guests to get into the various lands, so our shoot lasted almost an hour and 45 minutes even though it was only supposed to be an hour. It was AMAZING. We took pictures all over the front half of Disneyland, and then after the shoot our photographers took some time to get some shots at places around the resort we missed the night before.

There are a few more castle shoot pictures I'm going to share and post, but we're nearly wrapped up here! I will finish this off before our first wedding anniversary LOL.

After the dream-like castle shoot, the rest of our stay at the Disneyland Resort was an absolute blur. We took lots of pictures with characters, including Baymax and ate more delicious food. Going back to reality was rough. I came back from the wedding and immediately started in on 60 hour work weeks and only recently have things let up due to the new job. I thought I would finish off this report with a few more day after wedding shots and a link to our highlight reel :)

If anyone is really interested, we do have a longer 20 minute film that can be watched here:

A year later, I loved our wedding day and everything about our wedding and wish I could do it all over again haha. Disney VR in the future? I think yes.

What a beautiful wedding! It's nice to see a Disneyland experience mixed in with all the WDW weddings! I loved how your dresses looked together and your park pictures look so amazing with both trains spread out behind you! Thanks for sharing your day with everyone, I really enjoyed reading about it!

Thank you so much! Finding two complimenting dresses we both really liked was the biggest wedding planning stressor we had, and we're so pleased with how everything looked together. Our hair and make up person (FUSE Hair and Beauty) and our photographers (C&B Photography) did really fantastic job.

Wow, what's better than 1 beautiful bride - 2 beautiful brides!! :lovestruc You both looked amazing, and your photos are stunning! Congratulations x

Thank you so much!! :) We're so glad we were able to share our shots since you don't see too many Disney weddings with two brides in dresses (in particular no Disneyland weddings with two brides in dresses) and that others enjoyed our wonderful pictures.

Congratulations! You two looked so beautiful and the picture are amazing! To have those with the Christmas decorations were just beautiful. Both dresses were perfect for you.

Gotta ask since I live in SLO what was the winery that made you have your wine alter tearing experience so I can make sure I try it this weekend

Thank you!! Yes we loved how the Christmas decorations looked for our wedding. The items in the hotels change a little from year to year, and we did not like the set up at the Disneyland Hotel very much this year, so we're super happy we got married the previous year.

Our wine from our wedding was from Alapay Cellars in Avila Beach. I'm not usually much of a red wine kind of person, but I love their red wines. Definitely worth checking out.
