A long time ago on a Fantasy far far away...Feb 2016 SWDAS TR, 5/17 CRUISE EPILOGUE - The End!

Just saw that you've posted two updates! The ship looks beautiful and so does your room! Is this the ship that has the water slide that extends out over the edge of the ship? I saw a show on tv once that was all about how they designed that Disney ship. The pools seem a bit small but I'm guessing that was only two of them and there were others? Can't wait to read more!

Can't wait to see the inside of Rainforest on the Fantasy! We only tried it on the Magic and it was just so so there.

It's completely different from the Magic. I don't even think they should call it Rainforest Room on the Magic!

Joining in! I followed along on Instagram, it looked like you guys had a great time!!

I need to add go on a Disney cruise to my bucket list now!

Hii! Yes it's definitely a must-do. Even if you're not a cruiser, which I'm not, but with Disney Cruise Line, then I am!!

Mmmmmm Heated Loungers! 6 days till I get to enjoy one of those babies at the Grand!!!:hyper:

:thumbsup2

Very cute! :thumbsup2

Thanks!! Oooh your mani-pedi sounds like a dream! Enjoy your time there!

That was sooo bad but sooo good! I'm an ice cream junkie and having the soft serve there plus all you can eat Mickey Bars was not good for my diet :)

LOL at least you run so you can burn off the calories. I tried to run around deck 4 but kept getting distracted and taking pictures. So it wasn't really like a run...more like run. stop. run. stop. walk. stop. sit. enjoy view. stop. :rotfl:

Thanks again! There is actually a funny story about our costumes. We were standing on the balcony overlooking the atrium at one point, and a lady asked if her son could get a picture with us. We said sure and proceeded to take the picture. Apparently other people saw what was happening and also wanted a picture. After a few minutes we had a line of like, twenty people going down the stairs waiting to get their picture with us :rolleyes1. I was honestly afraid that someone from Disney was going to shut it down and ask us to leave but they "let it go" (see what I did there ;)). Eventually we had to cut the line off because we had reservations for brunch at Palo (Which we also did in our costumes)

That's awesome!! I got some request for pictures but no one posed with me though, and I definitely didn't have a line! I think they thought you guys were CMs! I would definitely take a picture with you guys if you were on my cruise!

Wow that bar with the different city scenes (and Jedi) was really awesome!! Also your dinner looked good too - the s:rotfl:almon looked really interesting...was that tempura on top of it? Looked good whatever it was. And the desserts...yum :) Glad everything worked out with the dining rotation. What a busy first day...looking forward to the rest!

Thanks!! The salmon had little crispy bits of panko on them, which is that japanese breadcrumb. It was quite good and it added a nice crunch. It was a really busy day but I guess that's how we roll...LOL.

Digital Jedi's!? Only Disney - so cool!!!
I thought your hair looked good in the theatre - the beachy look :goodvibes
Can't wait for the next installment! popcorn::

The Jedi were awesome!

Haha, thanks I had hoped for something more Baywatch, but I got more "just out of the carwash" look.

Patiently for the next section!! :teeth:

Coming soon!!

Yup it does have the water slide that extends over the ship. I think both the Dream and now the Magic have that too. The Aquadunk was really fun!!
Yup the pools are small. We didn't use the other pools, only the adult pool. They were always crowded on sea days but that's to be expected. There were a total of 3 pools: 2 family and 1 adult. There was also a wading pool for toddlers, and two water splash areas for kids. The adults also had satelite falls which is an adult wading pool, lol. It's supposed to have a waterfall but it was turned off when I visited because of high winds.

Can't wait to see and read about the rest of your cruise!

Thanks!! Coming up soon!

Me too, except NOT so patiently... :sail:

LOL...there will be an update posted very soon!!

Wow I'm so enjoying your report so much already! It really brings back memories of when we cruised on the Dream in 2014. The only bad part is that it really makes me want to take another cruise! :boat: The ships are so incredibly beautiful, aren't they? I know what you mean though, after you cruise with Disney you're spoiled for life.

Love your door decorations and it was so much fun to follow on Instagram. I'm very new to Instagram so you were the first person I followed!! ::yes::

I think your hair looks great in all the photos, you guys are so photogenic it's not fair!

I'd like to say I'm fashionably late, but at this point I'm just plain old late, but all caught up now and ready to book my first Disney Cruise!!!! Everything looks amazing. This will be my first cruise trip report so please excuse in advance what will be endless questions from me. We've only done one cruise in the past and liked everything but our $800 bar tab at the end of the trip (shocking for me I know). Love the idea of hitting up a super market though and bringing it on board.

fter resting up in the room, we decided to have a sit-down dinner since we’re all now tired of the food court. We ate at the restaurant in the Hyatt, called McCoy’s. It’s actually a really nice restaurant. It was packed too! We waited about 15 minutes for a table. They brought us some delicious warm bread. We started with an appetizer trio of calamari, dumplings, and a quesadilla. It was tasty and they brought it to us in a tiered serving tray.
We stopped in here on the way home on our last trip and really enjoyed it too. Found it much better than anything inside the security gates. And since Disney insists on getting me there 3 hours early we had plenty of time ; ) We're also staying at the Hyatt for a night when we go down next month so another trip is likely in order.
Here was my embarkation outfit! Could I have made my love for Star Wars any clearer?

You're going on a star wars cruise????? I had no idea :rotfl2:

Finally we were at Minnie!

Looks like a great way to start the trip. Love her Julie McCoy cruise director outfit.

We were able to get Anna and Elsa for the first sea day and then the Princess Gathering for our last sea day.
Ok dumb question number 1 and 2, do you have to sign up for character meet and greets? Do they charge for this or is there a limit on the number you can do?

he Oceaneer’s club was really cool. We stepped into the Toy Story area and posed with all the toys. We hula-hooped on the dance floor, we explored all the different rooms. Boy these kids have got it all, and I understand why they wouldn’t want to leave!
This is awesome. I'd love to say my daughter would be in heaven, but heck I think we would be too.

STONE CRAB CLAWS!!!!!!!!!!! Can't believe they had those. Impressive.

I bought the couples pass which was 193. They automatically add gratuity and tax to it making it about 227. It’s a good deal if you’re buying for 2.
Dumb question #3, was this for the whole week?

By now our stateroom was ready so I headed up to deck 6. Our room was 6592, a Category 4D Deluxe family ocean view with verandah. It was close to the midship elevators and overall a very convenient location. Upon first entering the room, I was amazed to see how spacious it was. The extra 50 sq ft of space that the deluxe gives you over the regular oceanview really makes a difference in a tiny stateroom!

Wow, what a beautiful room and definitely spacious considering. Really like how you could pull back the curtain between the rooms if need be.

Next order of business…decorate our stateroom door! I had remembered to put our decorations in our carryon so that I’d be able to decorate our door as soon as the rooms were ready. I made a few tweaks since I posted the design in my PTR so here is the final result:

This is awesome. Great job.

OK, so now we're at the backdrop with the ship in the background. And we just can't contain it any longer. I give you...the worst cruise picture ever...

ry%3D480

Enough said. Just look at my hair. Any our expressions. I can't even. I die each time I look at this.
Speaking of awesome, this is priceless. Please tell me this is framed and hanging prominently in your house ; )

Overall a nice start to our dinner service with our team, Lee, Nyoman, and Joseph! Joseph kept trying to stump us with riddles. It was fun but we got most of them right anyways. Haha.
Dinner looks great. Can't wait to see what the other nights have in store.

After dinner, I really wanted to check out the adult bar areas so we headed to the Europa section on Deck 4. This place is amazing. There are different bars, all interconnected, each one with a different and unique theme. Tonight we visited Skyline Lounge first, where every 12 minutes a different European skyline scene will be displayed on the screens. When we arrived, it was Paris.
How very cool!

I forgot to mention that my sister and I did try the Aquaduck water slide the first day, and it was really fun! It was easy to get in the tube at the top, although it was hard to get out of the tube when you reach the bottom, at least not elegantly. I kept laughing because my sister was screaming like a madwoman the whole way down. And of course we had to do it again!

Day 2 Part 1: Mickey Waffles and the Rainforest Room, what more can you ask for?

Today we woke up bright and early. It was our first sea day and I was so excited to be able to explore the ship some more. We had a bunch of stuff planned for the day - Rainforest Room, brunch at Remy for DH and myself, a mixology class with some DISers, it was formal night as well, the Aladdin show was on, plus we have a date to watch Star Wars: Episode IV later that night...do we get to do everything we have planned? We'll find out soon enough...

First we all decided to go to the gym - even CS, who normally never goes to the gym, but hey she brought her sneakers and was ready to go! I got up a little later than CS and DH though so they went first and I went by myself about 30 mins later. The gym was very nice - although I don't have pictures. But it was your typical hotel/cruise ship gym.

Here's me in the elevator heading to the gym

After the gym, still in our workout clothes, we decided to head straight to Cabanas for breakfast. I really wanted to get my hands on a few of these:

Mickey Waffles!

It's a good thing I worked out that morning. #dietfail

Oh but that's not all I ate...

I did really like those plates that looked like Mickey ears - it was for kids but hey, I am a kid at heart!

We headed back to the room to change into swimsuits so that we could use the pool and then head to the Rainforest room for the first time! The pools were pretty empty since it was still early - it was really pretty. In fact, the morning was when I really enjoyed roaming around the ship. The earlier the better too if you want to find little to no people in usually crowded areas.

At check in for Senses spa, they took our KTTW cards, which had a special sticker on them for access to the Rainforest room. They gave us wristbands which double as the "magic band" to open the door to the room. They asked if we would like scrubs and we said yes! The 3 scents you could choose from were Chocolate Mint, Vanilla Lavender, and some orange scented one. They give you a little container of it like this:

I got the lavender one which I really liked.

We were brought to the lockers where we stored our stuff, changed into robes and slippers and made our way into the Rainforest Room! When you first enter, you're greeted by fresh towels and infused water. One was cucumber and the other, lemon.

To the left were the rain showers, steam rooms, and sauna. Here's a little video I made of the shower area. It's really quite amazing.

The rainshowers were really fun. Each one had a selection of buttons that you can press like "Caribbean Storm" or "Atlantic Rain" or something like that, and a series of mists/showers of all temperatures will come blasting out at you. They were all pretty fun. Some of them got warm and cold, and some were just cold. Those ones were not that appealing but it was fun to try them all out especially when you didn't know what would happen.

The dry sauna had a full glass pane in it so you could see the outside! I thought this was a genius idea.

Why settle for a sauna with no wall of glass when you could have one that does? :)

The area heading straight as you're walking into the Rainforest Room is a separate door leading to the quiet area, with heated loungers and jacuzzis. These were amazing!

That dude looks mighty comfy!

The heated loungers were wonderful. When I first lay down on one, I instantly fell asleep within minutes. I'm the sort of person who finds it hard to fall asleep and rarely take naps - but now I know that all I'm missing is a heated lounger!! Instant nap success!! Where can I find one near me?!?!

This was my go to each and every day of the cruise from then on...my power nap on the heated loungers! I saw people read, listen to music on their headphones, play games on their ipads, etc. lounging in those chairs. Note that the chairs can get a bit warm after a while so I usually put a layer of towel in between myself and the lounger and it was perfect.

Right beyond the loungers through a glass sliding door were the outdoor jacuzzis. There were 2 of them and each one fit 2 people comfortably, or maybe 3, as long as you know them really well. LOL

I tried the jacuzzis but didn't actually find them warm enough because I like jacuzzis to be hot! The jacuzzi next to the adult pool was much hotter and larger but it drew big crowds at times. These ones were far less crowded and there was a nice serene vibe here. Plus you get to feel some ocean breezes as well.

My view at that moment.

After my power nap, I went into the wet steam room to use the scrub. There are little sinks and vats of water in there to rinse yourself off after you finish your scrub. It was super hot in there, but I guess that is the point! After the scrub and rinse you skin will feel really soft and moisturized. In fact, my skin never looked better than after this cruise. Scrubs all the way!!

Soon it was about the time that DH and I had to get ready for Remy brunch so I went back to the locker room. I realized then that the showers here were pretty awesome and really big so I just showered here. They have everything you need. It was really convenient to do so and I found myself showering at the spa more often than in our room. It worked out because then 3 people aren't waiting to use the shower at the same time.

Shower room amenities from Elemis. They had a spicy almost masculine scent.:

They have cleanser and lotion too, plus razors and cotton. There was also a hairdryer as well.

After my shower I went back to the room to get ready. I was really looking forward to this brunch at Remy. After we got ready I realized I had some time to spare before our bunch and I remember I still had to pick up my pre-ordered merchandise from Visa Gallery on Deck 4 so that's where I headed to. You can view the items I pre-ordered in this post from my PTR. The only change was that I cancelled the order for the petite laser cell and the women's t-shirt since I prefer v-necks or scoopneck shirts over crew necks and it wouldn't get much use.

On the way there, I passed by some cool stateroom door decor:

The Vista Gallery is a lovely little spot that showcases artwork available for purchase. I really enjoyed browsing through their collection when we happen to be around the area. It was a small collection but some pieces were really cool, and they had a lot of Star Wars art too.

Also nearby were the Shutters photography locations, one which housed physical printed pictures, and one which had all the digital pictures.

And "library" style Shutters, where each "book" is a folder holding your physical pictures. We were assigned a specific book in the Minnie bookcase which housed all the printed pictures. It was fun to actually see how each picture would turn out when printed. If you took a lot of pictures though, then the folder may not hold everything and they will have to store it separately so you'll have to ask a CM for the remaining pictures.

Soon I was given a very large bag of stuff and brought it back to our room. They told me that not all the pins I ordered made it on the voyage in time (or were sold out) so they gave us some complimentary pins and they will mail the other pins home to me later. Yay! I'm not a pin collector but I thought that these would make good gifts and I guess they are a nice inexpensive souvenir of SWDAS compared to a lot of other items. The pins that were not available were the Captain of the Ship and Imperial Collage pins.

Some complimentary pins to tide us over - they were not my favorite but hey, better than nothing!

The one thing that I was most excited about was probably the item that I was disappointed in the most. The Dooney and Burke Star Wars crossbody bag. I dunno, the print just didn't really suit me. I am not a fan of the floating heads in a "Houdini" - like background. So I decided that I would just return this item when I got a chance.

The Dooney and Burke was not my style so I didn't even take it out of the bag.

Now, it was finally time for brunch at Remy!!! DH and I took the midship elevators thinking it would get us up to deck 12 but only one elevator does it it goes to the Edge teen club - we should have taken the aft elevators which go right to Palo and Remy. So we had to walk down, walk aft and then walk upstairs but finally we made it to Remy!

The ships are awesome. I honestly couldn't care less about the ports. I could just stay on the ship the entire cruise!! Unless we were in Europe, of course...or Hawaii...or Alaska. LOL.

Love your door decorations and it was so much fun to follow on Instagram. I'm very new to Instagram so you were the first person I followed!! ::yes::

Thank you! Yay for Instagram!!!

I think your hair looks great in all the photos, you guys are so photogenic it's not fair!

Thank you so much! My hair kinda does what it wants to when I don't style it which I didn't that night but I made an effort from that point on...

Hi Kari!! Great to see you here! Ask any questions you want..."you've gotta (cruise) friend in me"!!
It's great that DCL lets you bring in alcohol. 2 bottles of wine per drinking age adult per stateroom I think. Plus the bars on the ship were awesome and made excellent cocktails!! I don't normally drink so much so I felt like it was my 21st, not 40th bday.

Definitely impressive considering it's a hotel restaurant inside an airport, but I'd return for sure!

You're going on a star wars cruise????? I had no idea :rotfl2:

I TRIED to be subtle. :rotfl:

Looks like a great way to start the trip. Love her Julie McCoy cruise director outfit.

We skipped this character pic last year because we didn't want to wait in line (and also because they had called our boarding number when we arrived at the terminal), but you know when chunkysis is around we're gonna have to wait for some characters!

Ok dumb question number 1 and 2, do you have to sign up for character meet and greets? Do they charge for this or is there a limit on the number you can do?

Not dumb questions at all because I had the same questions prior to cruising for the first time. Most of the characters have timed appearances that will be in the navigator newsletter, however they will also randomly roam the ship. The only tickets you will need to get before hand are the Princess Gathering and Anna and Elsa just because they are so popular, and they are free. There is also a Disney Junior breakfast which you can sign up for, and I assume this is popular for those with young kids. I'm not sure if this is free, it might be. There is also a Princess Afternoon Tea which I know does cost a lot but it comes with some items for the kids to take home. Adults also have to pay for this tea but it is less since you don't get as much "stuff" to take home. I didn't tell my sister about this because she'll probably want to go! But I am under the impression that this is definitely geared more for kids than for adults anyways.

This is awesome. I'd love to say my daughter would be in heaven, but heck I think we would be too.

I loved the Oceaneer Club. Why can't there be an adult happy hour here...oh why!?!?

STONE CRAB CLAWS!!!!!!!!!!! Can't believe they had those. Impressive.

Yes!! My sister and DH loved these. They ate plates of them every day. They developed methods of cracking them most efficiently, while I just watched, jealous.

Dumb question #3, was this for the whole week?

Yes it's for the whole week. The individual day passes can be preordered before the cruise but I am not sure if they included the scrubs, which I loved.

Wow, what a beautiful room and definitely spacious considering. Really like how you could pull back the curtain between the rooms if need be.

I was very impressed with the size of this room. It was perfect.

This is awesome. Great job.

Thanks!!!

Speaking of awesome, this is priceless. Please tell me this is framed and hanging prominently in your house ; )

I'm waiting for my full wall mural size to be delivered to me and it's gonna be the prominent focus in our dining room.:laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing:

Dinner looks great. Can't wait to see what the other nights have in store.

This was the tip of the iceberg...get ready for some major food in the next few days!!

Uh, the rainforest room looks like utter Heaven!!! Oh my gosh.....I need to look into this further lol

Sorry about the purchases not working out; I agree I wouldn't like that bag either it just looks.....odd!

Can't wait to read about Remy brunch!

The rainforest room does look wonderful!! I think I was able to use the rainforest room on the Wonder after one of my spa treatments, but it was super crowded. I didn't stay long. I don't remember it looking like the one on the Fantasy?

Day 2 Part 2: Remy Champagne Brunch

After we checked in at Remy, we were taken to Meridien to wait, which is the bar located in between Remy and Palo restaurants. It was a nice traditional bar area and I could see it having appeal for adults in the evening.

After a few moments we were taken to Remy where we stood with a bunch of other diners in a demonstration area for a brief intro by the Remy staff. There was already the iberico ham and the glasses of champagne ready to be passed out. The waitstaff gave a brief background of the iberico ham, and the origins of champagne and then we were given our plates and glasses to enjoy.

The thinly-sliced deliciously aged Jamon Iberico.

At brunch there is an optional champagne pairing which included the following champagnes:

The chef de cuisine then came out to give a description of the brunch and then sent us all to our tables with our respective servers. Our server was Matthieu whom I adored. He offered to take our picture and here it is:

We sat in a cozy booth at the corner of the restaurant. We didn't have an ocean view, but I rather liked our corner as it was on a raised platform and we were the only ones there, making it very private.

Loved the beautiful presentation and it tasted just as good as it looked!

The next course was one of my favorites, a deep fried egg surrounded by a corn soup flavored with a light curry spice. The egg was probably sous vide before it was deep fried so it had the delicious yolk oozing out as you cut into it. The soup was poured table side. It was velvety and rich and combined with the oozing yolk, it was perfection.

I am usually not a fan of parsnips because I think it's a veggie that can't quite decide if it's a potato or trunip, but I did quite like the salsify more as it had more of a distinct taste and sweetness and paired very well with the cured salmon.

The salmon was delicious and had a mild cure on it. If you're not a fan of raw things, they were willing to cook it for you in the kitchen.

Our next Champagne was the Pommery Pop.

Which paired well with the Chicken in an Oscar style. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the skin was crisp and delicious. The sauce was reminisce of a beurre blanc or hollandaise.

Our dessert champagne was the Moet Ice which is one of my favorite champagnes. Meant to be served with ice, it's a refreshing drink that you can even put fruit or a twist in (we had this in Ohh La La later this week)

And dessert was a take on the Paris Brest which is choux pastry filled with hazelnut cream and served with hazelnut ice cream. Delicious!

In addition we got our choice of coffee. I chose 100% blue mountain, or you could have a blend.

I guess if you really really did not like rodents you'd have a hard time being here.

Service was just wonderful. Matthieu was so gracious, and so kind, plus he kinda resembled a young Ryan Gosling mixed with Johnny Lee Miller, but French. My husband does not think so but I do. :cutie:

We also dealt with Benoit and he was great as well, in fact the entire staff were all awesome! Matthieu asked that since we are coming back the next night for dinner, if we'd like we can continue with him as a server, and I said but of course! Matthieu said that dinner was very different from brunch and that we'd be in for a treat. I couldn't wait!

As a parting gift we were given a bag of cannelle, which are these gorgeous little baked treats. I can't describe them, but they are like a chewy cake, with a sweet center. The flavor reminds me of dark brown sugar. They are quite addictive!

We loved our Remy brunch and I think it was a fantastic way to spend a sea day afternoon! Or any afternoon for that matter. Looking forward to our dinner tomorrow night!!

Coming up, a trip to Arendelle, and we get tipsy in mixology!

Looks like we posted replies at just the same time!!!! Remy's looks amazing. Of course you had me at iberico ham, but add in truffles and lobster and caviar and the most amazing egg I think I'd ever laid eyes on. Serious food porn.

Uh, the rainforest room looks like utter Heaven!!! Oh my gosh.....I need to look into this further lol

It was sooo relaxing and one of the highlights of each day.

Sorry about the purchases not working out; I agree I wouldn't like that bag either it just looks.....odd!

Yeah, not really very me but I thought I'd see what it looked like in person. Thankfully you can return anything you bought on the boat.

Can't wait to read about Remy brunch!

Just posted!!

The rainforest room does look wonderful!! I think I was able to use the rainforest room on the Wonder after one of my spa treatments, but it was super crowded. I didn't stay long. I don't remember it looking like the one on the Fantasy?

The ones on the Magic and Wonder do not compare. I did not do the one in the Magic when I saw it...it was nothing exciting. But definitely on the Dream and especially the Fantasy, it's a must do for me!

Thanks for all the cruise info. Definitely getting my cruise juices going....

Excellent! I am expecting a full-blown cruise dining report from you at some point! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Haha yeah it looks like we posted at the same time! Remy brunch was outstanding, and dinner would be out of this world (you'll see). It's amazing what you can get on a cruise now. I loved everything we ate at Remy and you would too!

Looooving your report! You guys are so much fun and your pics are amazing!
I was wondering, were you only able to use the Spa bathrooms to shower on the day you had the day pass or anytime? My husband and I are definitely doing the day pass but they look so amazing, I was hoping I could use them again :) Looking forward to the rest of your report! Thank you so much for sharing!

Thank you so much!!

You are able to use the regular showers/lockers at any time. The gym was open to anyone too. The only thing you need a special pass for was the Rainforest room and that housed all the specialty showers. You should make sure that you have in and out privileges for the day with the day pass so that you can go in the morning and in the afternoon/evening again!

Wow, the brunch at Remy is quite different from Palo. But just as elegant (more so, I'd say). I had to laugh at your hashtags for the egg :rotfl2:#yolkporn!! bwahaha Now I want to try deep frying an egg at home....

And they give you a parting gift? Good service!! :thumbsup2

Wowza! There are new food courses at Remy brunch! The Paris Brest dessert is the only repeat I see when compared to the last time we went to Remy brunch, but then again, I guess it WAS 3 years ago that we were last on the Fantasy, so good on them for changing it up periodically. Thank you for getting out a post on a Sunday - something told me to take a break from laundry and come see what was up on the DIS! :) Love your review - and I can't wait for the Moet Ice. Good stuff!
